Evidence Mounts That The Vote Was Hacked by Thom Hartmann / Common Dreams News Center
When I spoke with Jeff Fisher this morning (Saturday, November 06, 2004), the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida's 16th District said he was waiting for the FBI to show up. Fisher has evidence, he says, not only that the Florida election was hacked, but of who hacked it and how. The State of Florida, for example, publishes a county-by-county record of votes cast and people registered to vote by party affiliation. Net denizen Kathy Dopp compiled the official state information into a table, available at http://ustogether.org/Florida_Election.htm, and noticed something startling. While the heavily scrutinized touch-screen voting machines seemed to produce results in which the registered Democrat/Republican ratios largely matched the Kerry/Bush vote, in Florida's counties using results from optically scanned paper ballots - fed into a central tabulator PC and thus vulnerable to hacking – the results seem to contain substantial anomalies.

George Winston In Person: Piano Man
by Tama Miyake / Metropolis Magazine
With more than 30 albums stretching over 30 years and encompassing instrumental piano, movie soundtracks and compilations, George Winston is hardly lacking for an audience. The 1995 Grammy winner for "Best New Age Album" for Forest, one of several solo piano albums inspired by the landscapes of Montana, has been lauded as the father of the New Age instrumental movement that took off in the '80s. But ask Winston, who considers New Age mostly "meditation stuff," and he will describe his music as "rural folk piano," a blend of American folk, melodic and stride piano, jazz, and R&B. Winston, who was born in Michigan in 1949 but spent most of his childhood in Miles City and Billings, Montana, grew up listening to '50s radio and his father's 78s. At 18, swept up in what he considers the pinnacle year of American music, 1967, he heard The Doors and decided he wanted to play organ in a band. But it was the music of Thomas "Fats" Waller that he heard a few years later that inspired him to become a solo pianist.

Talking About Miracles - A Conversation with Marianne Williamson
by Bo Wise / Balanced Living Magazine
Marianne Williamson first entered the public eye in the early 1980s when she began talking to small groups in Los Angeles about A Course in Miracles. Published in 1975 by The Foundation for Inner Peace, A Course in Miracles came about through the collaborative effort of two professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University who were seeking a way to improve their combative professional relationship. Although the book employs Christian terminology, A Course in Miracles deals with universal spiritual themes, emphasizing application rather than theory, and experience rather than theology. Marianne Williamson describes it as “a self-study program of spiritual psychotherapy.” Her early talks based on its tenets became enormously popular and soon attracted thousands to examine their “inner life.” Marianne rose to the ranks of an internationally acclaimed bestselling author with the debut of her first book, A Return to Love. She has authored eight books in all, each taking on new subject matter in a spiritual frame of reference. Four of these books have reached number one on the New York Times bestsellers list. We recently spent some time with Marianne discussing her dreams for the future of America and the world. Regardless of her political affiliation, Marianne Williamson is emerging as one of the single most powerful and articulate voices for the new consciousness in the twenty-first century.

CONSCIOUS TRAVEL |
The Joys of Volunteering in Thailand by Cameron Beatty / BootsNAll.com
Some time ago, traveling in northwestern Thailand, I spent three weeks volunteering at a medical clinic on the Thai-Burma border. The clinic has contacts literally the length of Thailand's border with Burma, and helps Burmese refugees living in the camps in Thailand, dispossessed Burmese who are refugees inside their own country, and even poor Thais, of whom there are a considerable number, who can't afford hospital care. But the clinic also does community development work: pre-natal clinics, nutrition education and some vocational training. Basically, if there's a need or someone asking for help, a way is found to render assistance. While I was there, they got a call from one of the refugee camps that an upstanding family man and member of one of the churches in that particular camp had been caught without a pass in Chiang Mai, arrested and transferred south to Mae Sariang, a city located about midway between Chiang Mai and Mae Sot, where the clinic is located. Somebody had to go up and spring this guy, and I was one of those chosen.

HOLISTIC HEALTH |
The Universal Spirit of Healing
by Mara Bishop / InnerChange Magazine
Spirit is the basic power of the universe, a vast energetic web that sustains and interconnects all creation, including the inhabitants of this world and many others. Spirit refers to the substance of life, a typically unseen energy that permeates and radiates through the universe and everything within. In this form spirit does not connote a personality, but implies an innate consciousness as a level beyond human comprehension. Glimpses of the workings of spirit are seen through the findings of quantum physics, and through energy-based healing techniques such as acupuncture and intuitive healing. In many traditions it is the relationship with this spirit or supernatural force that promotes health. Disease is caused when this relationship is disrespected or disturbed (1). From the shamanic and other perspectives, humans, animals, dead souls, and the elements of nature are all created from the same spiritual substance, forming a web or a holographically related universe that acts as one large organism, each part affecting the others. This is a key concept to many vibrational and energy-based healing modalities.

MASSAGE / BODYWORK |
Jamu Massage: A Flower from Bali by Naomi Serviss / Massage Magazine.
The history and traditions of Jamu, which translates as 'herbal remedies used internally and externally,' first started in the palaces of Central Java. As a holistic-health system, Jamu incorporates various treatments, including massage. The massage part of the Jamu treatment reveals much history, blending Chinese, Hindu and European techniques picked up via the trade and exploratory routes that passed through Indonesia beginning in the 1500s.
The Jamu massage session is a step-by-step process that utilizes distinct strokes: dry compression massage, thumb-walking, skin rolling, long oil strokes, percussion and wringing. Only after the dry massage has been completed are essential oils added to the session. The client chooses the oil, which is then warmed in the therapist's hands and generously applied, beginning and ending on the client’s right side. The first thing a client typically senses upon entering a Jamu-prepared session room is the aroma of blossoms. Bright red or soft pink, the delicate petals (often from roses) pay homage to this ancient treatment's purpose: to recognize the intrinsically linked nature of mind/body and to honor the client.

The Vegan Holiday Table
by Tracy Mitchell Griggs / VegFamily.com
Holidays can be a joyous time-a gathering of friends and family in the spirit of celebration. They also can be stressful. Vegans particularly are subjected to the additional stress of the buffet or dinner table. Food is a big part of holiday traditions, and the typical American holiday dinner frequently includes a meat protein centerpiece such as ham or turkey. Although savvy soy companies produce alternatives like "tofurkey", non-vegan hosts are unlikely to offer meat alternatives for their vegan guests. Most vegans are adept at making a meal of non-meat side dishes at holiday parties, and hosts are sometimes receptive to preparing vegan main or side dishes for their non meat-eating guests. I have found that hosts who also like to cook are generally enthusiastic about adding new dishes to the recipe box and would welcome serving ideas for their vegan guests. The recipes included with this article are a colorful, healthy selection of holiday side dishes that even staunch meat eaters would have difficulty passing by.

Yoga for Better Health: Exploring the Chakras
by Jonathan Klemens / Yoga.com
The Upanishads (ancient Hindu texts) define Yoga as a state of gokumu jisho; “extreme nothing self nature.” Essentially, one’s consciousness becomes himself. According to Tsuruji Sahota: “When the five senses stop their function and the judging mind stops its function as well, people call it the ultimate state. To control the organs of the body is regarded as Yoga.” The organs are controlled and toned by drawing energy up through the seven major energy centers, or chakras. The ultimate goal is to reach the topmost chakra and achieve self-illumination. When certain postures and disciplines are followed, energies that have accumulated and stagnated are moved through the chakras. The practicing of Yoga releases these stagnant energies that would potentially cause various ailments.

What is Tarot?
compiled by Jean-Michel David / AeclecticTarot.com
The ways in which this question has been answered takes somewhat for granted that we are referring to a deck of 78 cards, of which 22 are images, and 56 reflect, with the addition of Knights, our 'standard' pack of fifty-two playing cards. I am reminded of reading an ethnographic study, in which the native, responding to a question as to the origin of new-borns, indicated the Dreaming or the Stars: the study concluded that the native was ignorant of the relation between sex and pregnancy. Rather, some knowledge, in context, is taken as given, and a student new to a subject may at times want far more straightforward answers to a question which has material, psychological, historical, social and spiritual ways in which responses are possible. This article includes some of the many possible answers... reflecting on these, with a deck by one's side, may certainly deepen our own understanding.

On Finding Myself Middle Aged With No Role Model I Could Relate To Because I Am Not a Crone
By Donna Henes, Urban Shaman / From her book, "The Queen of My Self:
Stepping into Sovereignty in Midlife"
We have outgrown our tenure as Maidens and as Mothers, yet old age no longer follows immediately after menopause, which is why so many midlife women don't see ourselves (yet) as Crones. Where is the authentic archetype for us? There are now, for the first time in herstory and history combined, entire multi-national generations of women for whom the Triple Goddess paradigm no longer resonates. For us -- nearly 50 million climacteric women in the United States alone -- the tri-level ideal is flawed. Folk tales and historical documents featuring positive depictions of powerful middle age female figures are few and far between. There is no codified body of literature to which we can turn for affirmative examples of profound and potent midlife. Real life role models are sparse, as well, although there certainly have always been, in every society, notable and remarkable exceptions - powerful middle aged women who were rulers, adventurers, artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, spiritual leaders -- mature, glamorous, and courageous sheroes of all stripes. The popular media has typically portrayed menopausal women as over-the-hill, overwrought, flakes or furies, completely undesirable in either case. So who are we supposed to be? And who can teach us how?

HOLISTIC ANIMAL CARE |
Myths About Dogs by Jenn Marshall / Practical-Pet-Care.com
There are SO many stereotypes about SO many different breeds of the domestic dog. I would like to clear some of them up. First, I will start with a very well known breed called the American Pit Bull Terrier, Pit Bull, for short. They are Very widely known as viscous killers. In some states they are illegal to own, in some countries, you must keep them chained, harnessed, and muzzled at all times when in public, and they must be spayed/neutered. Why? Because people in the 1800s thought dog fighting an exciting sport. The Pit Bull was created solely for Dog Fighting; for fighting, often to the death, with another animal (sometimes multiple animals) because people liked to watch this. Pit Bulls, when in the right hands from early on, can make wonderful pets, as well as Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, German shepherds, English Mastiffs, Bull Mastiffs and other large breeds "known" for being nasty and mean tempered. I've owned at least one of every breed mentioned, and I never had problems.

Mental Chemistry in the Birth Chart
by Bob Makransky / MountainAstrologer.com
Life is like bodysurfing: Most of the time, you're just standing there, waiting for the right wave to come; then when it does come, you have to hurl yourself into it at precisely the correct moment and ride it to shore. If you're a little too slow or a little too fast — or if it wasn't the right wave — you're left standing right where you were. Dr. Marc Edmund Jones came up with a simple technique that indicates whether a person is too slow, too fast, or just right in grabbing and riding the waves of life. (1) He called it "mental chemistry," and it is shown by the combination of two horoscope factors: 1. Whether the Moon is relatively slow or fast in its daily travel; and 2. Whether Mercury rises before or after the Sun. The Moon's relative speed shows a native's perceptual capabilities: how a person processes information, whether his or her perceptions are alert (fast Moon) or deliberate (slow Moon). The Moon's daily travel is simply the difference between the Moon's longitude at midnight (or noon) Universal Time before birth and its longitude at midnight (or noon) UT after birth. Because this averages 13° 10' (13.37°) per day, we will define a native's perception to be alert if the Moon was moving faster than this on the day of birth — and deliberate, if the Moon was moving more slowly than this.

Meltdown: Arctic Wildlife is On the Brink of Catastrophe by Steve Connor / Independent UK (via Common Dreams News Center)
Polar bears, the biggest land carnivores on Earth, face extinction this century if the Arctic continues to melt at its present rate, a study into global warming has found. The sea ice around the North Pole on which the bears depend for hunting is shrinking so swiftly it could disappear during the summer months by the end of the century, the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) says. Scientists in the study believe the survival of the estimated 22,000 polar bears in the region is hanging by a slender thread as they suffer the double whammy of chemical pollution and dwindling feeding territories. Polar bears traditionally hunt on floating sea ice for seals and other quarry. But the ice has retreated significantly during summer, so the carnivores are having to swim further from one floe to another in search of quarry. The ACIA is the product of four years' work by more than 250 scientists from Britain, the United States and many other industrialized countries. Its 139-page report, presented to a scientific conference this week in Reykjavik, found climate change is affecting the Arctic more than many other regions. For instance, scientists estimate that the polar region is warming at up to 10 times the rate of the world as a whole.

Marriage Wording to Change in Texas High School Textbooks by Natalie Gott / Associated Press (via Common Dreams News Center)
The Texas Board of Education approved new health textbooks for the state's high school and middle school students Friday after the publishers agreed to change the wording to depict marriage as the union of a man and a woman. The decision involves two of the biggest textbook publishers and represents another example of Texas exerting its market clout as the nation's second-largest buyer of textbooks. Officials say the decision could affect hundreds of thousands of books in Texas alone. On Thursday, a board member charged that proposed new books ran counter to a Texas law banning the recognition of gay civil unions because the texts used terms like "married partners" instead of "husband and wife." After hearing the debate Thursday, one publisher, Holt, Rinehart and Winston, agreed to include a definition of marriage as a ``lifelong union between a husband and a wife.'' The definition, which was added to middle school textbooks, already was in Holt's high school editions, Holt spokesman Rick Blake said.

REVIEW OF THE WEEK |
This CD contains everything you need to learn to sense energy, activate healing energy in your hands and give a hands-on, full body chakra balancing. Energy healer, Mary Maddux, voice-guides the listener step-by-step accompanied by beautiful, healing music. Mary was inspired to create this CD when she saw how easy it was for her students to learn to use their natural healing abilities, and the tremendous benefit they were receiving from doing so. She wondered if this could be learned from a CD as many of the processes she uses in her workshops could be recorded. She and her husband, Richard Maddux, created a trial version of this CD to see if people would indeed be able to learn hands-on healing skills through a CD. The trial CD was tested by people who had no experience with energy healing, and everyone who tried it had a good experience with it. Everyone was able to sense energy and give a chakra balancing with good results. Based on the feedback of this initial group of people, the CD was revised and re-recorded, making it even more effective. See the website for more information or to order.

Natures Perfect Oil
Medical studies have documented over the centuries that 100% Pure Cold Pressed Hemp Seed Oil has become the product of the century in addressing some of our nutritional deficiencies. Hemp Oil has been dubbed "Nature's Most Perfectly Balanced Oil in the Plant Kingdom" due to the fact that it contains the perfectly balanced Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio of 3:1 which is deemed optimum for long term human consumption. The essential fatty acids (EFA's) contained in hemp seed oil are required in our diet more than any other vitamin, yet our bodies do not naturally produce them. They must be obtained from external sources in the foods we eat. EFA's are involved in every metabolic function of the human body, without them life is not possible. They are called "Essential" because they are "NECESSARY" nutrients. The North American diet is highly deficient in "essential fatty acids" (the GOOD fats 3,6,& 9) due to our high intake of animal fats, hydrogenated fats, & high consumption of processed foods.
