San Roque Creek Community Stewardship

Do you want to learn more about planting natives at home?
Join volunteers at a series of� community planting days at Stevens Park...

Saturday, October 7, 10am-1pm:"Native Plants are Good for Creeks"
San Roque Creek Stewardship Project Kick Off! Celebrate Creek Week by helping to restore San Roque Creek at Stevens Park.�Learn why native plants can help improve creek habitat and water quality.�

Saturday, October 21, 10am-1pm: "Right Plant, Right Place"
Plant native plants along San Roque Creek and learn more about incorporating beautiful California natives into your own backyard. Carol Bornstein of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden will discuss designing your site and choosing appropriate plants at this hands-on educational workshop and community planting day.

Saturday, November 4, 10am-1pm: Native Planting Workshop
Help plant native plants and learn more about maintaining natives at home including installation of drip irrigation, weeding and pruning. Find out more about less toxic alternatives to pesticides and herbicides.

Creek Week is Around the Corner!

Scheduled for October 7-15, Creek Week is an annual series of events where the community can learn more about local creeks and watersheds, and the many ways to enjoy and protect them. Jointly hosted by the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division and County Project Clean Water, with events planned by several community environmental organizations, this year's events include a community planting day along San Roque Creek, water quality monitoring activities, a guided hike at Arroyo Hondo Preserve, an oceanfront bird walk, a Mission lagoon clean-up, a reception and film presentation at the Watershed Resource Center�and a community forum�focusing on water quality,�bacteria and health.

Creeks Events & Outreach


Thanks to Volunteers!

On August 17, Westside neighbors and kids joined City Staff to help clean�Bohnett Park and Old Mission Creek, remove graffiti and add mulch to the restoration site. Thanks to all who came out to help keep the park clean!

Also in August, as part of the Looking Good Santa Barbara Eastside Clean-Up, 50 volunteers came out to plant native plants along the creek at two community stewardship sites at Cacique and at Punta Gorda.� Throughout the summer, the Creeks Division along with the Community Environmental Council, hosted clean-ups at Sycamore and Mission Creek and Arroyo Burro and East Beach.�Thanks to the�90 volunteers who helped to remove over 640 lbs. of trash from our creeks and beaches!
