WHAT TIME IS IT!!!! -- It's BIENAL Time!

Andalusia is the birthplace of flamenco and Seville offers some of the region's most celebrated performances, so it makes sense that this charming city in southern Spain hosts the art form's most important event - the Bienal de Flamenco, September 13 to October 15.

This year the 14th edition of the Flamenco Biennial will be a tribute to dance which will be showcased in 29 flamenco shows - almost one every night during the month-long festival. Flamenco greats and their companies performing include: celebrated dancers/ choreographers Cristina Hoyos, Belén Maya, guitarist and singer Diego Carrasco and acclaimed guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez. Kicking off the festival on September 13 will be "Andalucía, Flamenco and Humanity," directed by Mario Maya. The Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía under the direction of Cristina Hoyos takes the stage with "Romancero Gitano" on September 14 and 15. "Arena" and Tábula rasa," the latest choreography by Israel Galván (winner of last year's prestigious National Dance Award) will be presented September 15 and 17 and his newest piece, "La Francesa" on the 16th. Other noteworthy works on the program are: Belen Maya's "Sketches" (9/22), Mercedes Ruiz's premiere of "Juncá (9/24 & 25), Joaquin Grilo's "A solas" (10/3) and Eva Yerbabuena's "Spindle of Memory" (10/6 & 7)." Large-scale shows include: "Women of Lorca," by Carmen Cortés (9/27 & 29) and "Gitanas" with La Farruca and Pilar Montoya (10/13 & 14).

Esencia Flamenca Show in Long Beach

October 15, 2006
1 - 5pm

Esencia Flamenca Dance Company's
Annual Fundraiser at 324 Redondo Ave, Long Beach

Esencia Flamenca Dance Company is a non-profit organization that serves the Southern California area and is dedicated to promoting the art of Flamenco to its community. Esencia Flamenca does this by hosting performances by local artists, holding workshops, and doing out reach programs to new audiences. All of these activities and goals take money. For this reason we are holding a Fundraiser October 15th at the McDowell School of Dance in Long Beach (324 Redondo Ave) from 1pm to 5pm.

Our goal is to raise $5000.00 to help us with our operating costs. The costs include expenses such as studio rentals, fees paid to musicians for rehearsals and performances, advertising costs, insurance, storage, a new stage, and sound system.

The fundraiser is going to be an experience you will greatly enjoy. There will be live performances by Esencia Flamenca Dance Company members, a fundamental Flamenco class taught by Sarah Parra (rumbas), a silent auction, prize drawings, and food and beverage. We are limited to 50 guests so please purchase you tickets in advance. Tickets to the event are $25. Tickets can be purchased by emailing esenciaflamenca@hotmail.com or sarahparra@1esencia.com.

If you cannot make it and wish to make a donation, please call 562-761-1618 or email us at the above email address.

Thank you in advance,
