Creek Week is October 6-14!

Creek Week is an annual series of events which highlight our local creeks and watersheds and the many ways to enjoy, restore and protect them.  The event is coordinated by the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division and County Project Clean Water, with events hosted by many community organizations. Marine Debris "Creeks to the Sea" Community Forum

Thursday, October 11, 6-8pm

Join guest speakers from Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, and the Algalita Marine Research Foundation at this free community forum. See incredible footage from the “Voyage to Kure” and hear stories of expeditions to remote islands and the impacts of marine debris. See a collection of plastics gathered from these islands and check out the "Cola Kayak," a plastic bottle boat sailed down the LA River. Cabrillo Pavillion, 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd. Refreshments Provided. Call 897-2606.

Youth Inspired Creek Art

Thursday, October 4, 4-6pm “Speak for the Creek” Reception at the Central Library. This creek arts project showcases work from students at RAP after-school programs, as part of the "Speak for the Creek" project led by educator Sojourner Rolle. Come see poems and creek collage about Sycamore, Mission and Mesa Creeks! See a slideshow of their visits to the creeks including photos taken by Youth CineMedia. Call 897-2606

Wednesday, October 17, 6-8pm. Youth CineMedia Multi-Media Exhibit at Muddy Water’s, 508 E. Haley St. High-school aged youth involved with the “Clean Water Media Lab” project will showcase photos and video of local creeks and clean-up efforts. Original T-shirts and a creek inspired CD available. Creek & Beach Clean-Ups

Sat. October 6, 9:45am-12pm.
Creek Clean-Ups in Carpinteria

Help clean up Carpinteria, Franklin and Santa Monica Creeks! Meet at the end of 6th St. near Lou Grant School. Hosted by the Carpinteria Creek Committee, Carpinteria Beautiful and CEC. Refreshments. Call 684-2525.

Saturday, October 13

Mission Lagoon – 8am-12pm. Clean trash out of the lagoon before it reaches the ocean! Meet at the lawn east of Stearns Wharf. Call Urban Creeks Council at 968-3000.

San Jose Creek Bird Walk & Clean-Up – Bird walk at 8am. Meet at the bridge at Berkely Rd. Creek Clean-Up at 10am. Call the City of Goleta at 961-7560.

Hospital Creek Clean-Up & Water Quality Monitoring – 10am-12pm. Meet at end of Turnpike Rd. Call Project Clean Water at 568-3561.

Devereux Creek – 10am -12pm. Meet where

Phelps Rd. crosses Devereux Creek. Call 568-3561.

Isla Vista
10am-12pm. Meet at Embarcadero Stairs. Call Project Clean Water at 568-3561.

Hendry's Beach -
9am-12pm. Hosted by Surfrider.

Native Planting

Saturday, October 6, 10am-1pm. Native Planting Workshop at Stevens Park

Carol Bornstein of the Botanic Garden will give tips on planting and maintaining native plants at this hands-on workshop and restoration day. Meet at Stevens Park 258 Canon Dr. Bagels & coffee. Call City Creeks at 897-2606.

Sunday, October 14, 10am-1pm. Native Planting at Arroyo Burro

Plant native plants at the site of the Arroyo Burro Estuary & Mesa Creek Restoration site. Meet at the end of the Arroyo Burro Beach overflow parking lot, 2981 Cliff Dr. Pizza provided. Call City Creeks 897-2606.
