THE TWO GIFTS
February 12, 2008

Last night I received two magical gifts. The first was from an astounding animal communicator, Dr. Laurie Moore.

At the beginning of this year of 2008, Dr. Laurie offered to one individual in each of the 50 states a free 20 minute animal communication session.

I won the spot from the State of New Hampshire and chose to speak with Scamp, the first cat in my life.

Here is my story.

Sixteen years ago, a kitten came to share his life with us. He grew into a magnificent long-haired, silver and black Maine Coon cat who we named Scamper but he really should have had a much more heroic name so I often called him Jean Lafitte, after the pirate, or my Silver Head Marine, among other misnomers.

Dr. Laurie had explained that we could have a session with an animal here on Earth or one that had crossed over. I chose Scamper.

Four years ago, Scamp walked out of our front door for a regular evening jaunt and he never returned. Scamp had been uncomfortable for a while with a polyp of some sort in his nose which caused a strange noise when he breathed.

I had tried for months to find the cause and possibly a cure for him but all to no avail. When he didn’t return that night in June, I thought he had made a decision that ‘enough was enough’ and that he was too tired to fight the battle any longer. Still, there was always a question in my mind, “What happened?”

When our session started, Dr. Laurie took a moment to find the connection with Scamp and I have no doubt that she did because everything just fell into line and made perfect sense. I could give more details (such as his death seemed to be caused by a car) but that is not as important as what else was revealed.

The night Scamp walked out that door, I remember he had such a sad demeanor but he had been looking sort of sad for a while. I thought it was from his condition BUT, as I was to learn, maybe that was not it at all.

Dr. Laurie would ask Scamp my questions but she kept saying, “Wait, there is something he is trying to tell me, something sad about his leaving and he is still holding it. He felt alone. Something happened beyond his control. He was worried. Was there some loss of hope? He got his feelings hurt about something right before he left. He uses the words ‘loosing hope’.” After the third time of questioning what this was, Dr. Laurie asked me, “Was there something you were sad about or disappointed about?”

I said, “No. Well…I was loosing hope that the healing techniques I was using on him did not seem to be working…I could not find a way to help him and I was sad about that also.” Dr. Lauie said, “YES, that is it! Scamper felt that he had disappointed you in some way…that you were SAD AND DISAPPOINTED IN HIM.”

“OH MY OH MY!! Scamp it was not YOU that I was disappointed in, my brave and magnificent cat man – it was MYSELF that I was disappointed in and the sadness came from my inability to help you heal!”

Dr. Laurie said, “Oh, he gets it now – he understands! It just needed to be spoken and now it is released.” Scamp further explained that even though the tests I had put him through claimed that the growth in his nose was benign, he knew it was more serious and that it was just going to get worse. After a few more details our session with Dr. Laurie ended and I became aware of the second gift of the evening.

As a practitioner of Reiki (a healing energy) and a Specialist in Canine Kinaesthetics (a hands on healing technique) I had been taught the importance of DETACHMENT when using these techniques. When using these gifts to treat Scamp, I was not consciously practicing ‘detachment’ and little did I realize that the attitude I brought to the treatments were of utmost importance! I knew it intellectually but I didn’t know it spiritually.

It is always difficult for me to ‘detach’ myself from the results. I want healing to take place and in wanting that, I am subconsciously saying that the path of the particular spirit I wish healing for is wrong.

With Scamp, I was bringing sadness and disappointment into my Reiki sessions and that is what Scamp was receiving.

Therein lies the SECOND GIFT OF THE NIGHT…Healing treatments are about JOY. When approaching an animal I must clear myself of emotions, such as sadness, wanting results, disappointment, pity…I must check them at the door and just bring joy or neutral energy to the space. Well, I’m still sorting this all out and I’m sure it will take attentiveness to get a handle on it all.

I was able to talk to Scamp again in the wee hours of the morning when I was awakened by a need to once again say, “No, my Silver Head Marine, it was not YOU I was disappointed in – it was myself – I was the cause of my sadness, not you. You are whole and perfect just the way you are. Scamp, you were the bearer of such important gifts to Dale and myself and, once again, you presented me with another amazing gift to treasure. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your perfect life with us.”

And I also thank Dr. Laurie Moore for sharing her most special gift with us.

Loved your post on the moths & butterflies.
People are so worried about the decrease in the bee population but they don't realize that all sorts of insects and animals provide us similar services (free of charge)I have been feeding yellow jackets whenever I ate outside for years. I just put a small portion of my serving on this side of my plate for them.
The way to keep this earth healthy and in turn to keep humans healthy is thru balance and that mean balance of all things not only our bodies.
The "simple" cultures realize this and provide for nature around them. Some how in all our smarts our cultures have seemed to lost this connection.
