Musicar Riad's News: Posting, Audio/Video Streaming and Informing
Dear ,
I do wish you well. Our award winning, critically-acclaimed album is available through our distributor City Hall Records in the US and now the Lebanese producer's website Incognito is now online. Watch here our launch video made in Cairo. This month I'm featuring Mahmoud Abdel-Fetah, oudist. Mahmoud is a wonderful musician; I met Mahmoud in 1999 at Higher Institute for Arabic Music in Giza when he was still a student there. He also participated in Abdo Dagher's "saharat" (evenings of salon music) at Mr. Dagher home. We also played many concerts together in Egypt. Mr. Abdel-Fetah has performed on tour with Youssef N-Dour and Fathy Sallama (grammy winning musicians) to Japan and Europe. He also was a soloist in Egypt's Oum Kalsoum Orchestra when it toured in the US. Mahmoud has performed with such renowned Arab artists as Saad Mohamed, Wadi Safi, Mohamed Rushdie, and Angham. He also has a Bachelor's degree on the oud in 2001 from the HIgher Institute of Arabic Music in Giza. Cllick above to Listen/watch to excerpts of his wonderful tarab---enchanting taqaseem---improvisation.
By the way , I now have most of my past-issued newsletters linked on my website.

3-Here is this month's Middle Eastern musical tip about Abdo Dagher's unique salon school that I was fortunate to have been a part of.
Abdo Dagher’s artistic school is similar to that of North Indian gharana traditions. Abdo Dagher's artistic school is similar to that of North Indian gharana traditions. The gharana is a situation whereby the musical “guru” remolds in approach, form and interpretation of existing musical structures. [i] Abdo Dagher excels at taqāsīm (improvisational genres) and instills a distinct style of improvisatory practice among his students.
Abdo Dagher teaches students note by note and not just beginning musicians. Musicians of the highest caliber, (e.g. Ammar Sharrii’ee, Roman Bunka) in the global musical society, enjoyed and found useful for them to learn from Abdo who is in fact analphabetic. They were surprised how he taught them.
[i] I am indebted to the ITC SR Indian Music’s Archive Academy for the definition of North Indian gharana schools.
