Fall 2009

The Newness of Fall: Surrender and Expansion
The lingering warm weather cushions our transition into the mixed excitement of fall, when the freedom of summer starts to fade and the blessing of vibrant new schedules begin.  Though fall marks the end of a cycle of newness and growth, September often feels like a fresh beginning for my family.  There is a sense of resolve and exploration as we return to the school year, and try out both new and familiar classes and activities.   The balance is in not over-scheduling, and keeping some down time for each family member to reflect, be creative, initiate new projects, or to simple be.

This fall, Prana is thrilled to be re-opening it's doors as a new and bigger center, with a reception area and tea lounge, two studio rooms, and over 50 weekly classes!  The expanded studio will have more of a family focus, with many after school yoga and dance programs, as well as synchronized kids and adult classes, so parents can focus on their own practice while kids have a more playful, active class in the next room.
We will also be selling books, CD’s and yoga accessories (beginning Oct. 1st), to introduce our students to the depth and delight of a holistic yoga lifestyle.
Another new offering is streamlined on-line registration, enabling students to sign up for classes and purchase yoga passes using a credit card.  Please remember to register early, as many fall classes are beginning to fill!
Blessings for the newness of fall...
See you at class!

Ba Gua: The Art of Spiral Movement
Prana is proud to host Gravity and Grace founder William Tucker for a new introductory series on Ba Gua.  After 15 years of studying with master teachers in Taiwan, William founded Heaven and Earth, a Tai chi and Ba Gua school in England.  He has led workshops and retreats internationally, and will now be sharing his depth of insight and knowledge with us.
Ba Gua is a Chinese `Internal' martial art, similar to Tai Chi. While it is a full spectrum martial art, the focus will be on the movement and energy practices within Ba Gua, especially Circle Walking. Participants will explore new ways of moving that stretch and strengthen the body from the core to the extremities - with a lot of circles, spirals and varied footwork.

World Conscious Yoga Family Teacher Training Program
We had a fantastic group of 16 for our summer 2009 Yoga Teacher training program, which completed on August 31st.  The meaningful growth of each individual was inspiring to witness, and the group dynamics were amazing.  What grace to dedicate a full month for immersing into the stream of yoga's ancient teachings!  Prana is delighted to be offering classes with some of the summer's trainees:  Monday Yoga Flow with Denise Curry, Sunrise Yoga with Debbie Hanzen, and Yin Yoga with Chelsea Stephenson.  Welcome to the team!
Watch for our Summer 2010 Yoga teacher training program.  Dates TBA

Who Would You Be Without Your Story? Experience the work of Byron Katie and find out!
Weekend Workshop with Certified Facilitator of the Work, Pam Fisher,
hosted by Edmonton’s KindMind (founded by Isabelle Stahl of Prana)

The Work of Byron Katie is a simple, effective and profound process of inquiry that has been called many things - the End of Suffering, the Technology of Freedom, Four Questions and a Turnaround. It introduces you to you, without your story - whether your story is "I'm too fat", "He should love me", "She should listen to me", "I'm a failure", or... fill in the blank. Anyone with an open mind can do the Work and experience the peace and freedom that lie underneath every painful thought.

During this Weekend Workshop you will have the opportunity to:
• identify and question the stressful thoughts that are dictating your life - even ones you were not aware of
• explore and experience who you are without your stressful thoughts, and their opposites
• learn how to facilitate yourself and others using The Work
• take home a powerful tool that can help you live with clarity, integrity, peace and happiness.

Workshop Details:
Friday Sept. 25 – Introduction to the Work, 7-10 pm, $25
Saturday Sept 26 – Daylong Immersion in the Work, 9 am – 9 pm, $150
Register before September 10 and attend both events for $150!
Location: Willowby Community Hall, 6315 184 Street, Edmonton
