FORCE - FRIENDS OF THE RIVERS COALITION eNEWSLETTER August 2009 PO Box 2627 Stuart, Fl 34995 772-225-6849 www.RiversCoalition.org

Hi Ho, It's Off to Court We Go!
Don't miss next week's Rivers Coalition meeting when we'll update everyone on the coming federal court hearing about our riparian rights lawsuit seeking to end discharges from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie Estuary.

This important general meeting is at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at Stuart City Hall.

The Court of Federal Claims hearing is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 17 in Washington. The Rivers Coalition Defense Fund board will be there to support our long and difficult campaign. Our plaintiffs and others are urged to attend as well.

The lawsuit is based on our claim that discharges by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have repeatedly violated citizens' constitutional riparian rights to enjoy water free of unreasonably polluted water.

The Martin County Commission, City of Stuart, the town of Sewall's Point and thousands of persons and organizations are supporting the action.

September is usually a gorgeous time to visit Washington. You might want to combine a family outing with a visit to the federal courtroom. Judicial action is considered essential to force creation of a south outlet from Lake O that would relieve the estuaries of the pollution bombardments sent from inland into the St. Lucie.
