10th Annual Creek Week Begins September 19th!

Creek Week is an annual community event hosted by the Creeks Division, County Project Clean Water, the City of Carpinteria, and the City of Goleta, celebrating our local creeks and the ocean, with many local groups sponsoring events to help build awareness and stewardship of the natural treasures of Santa Barbara.

Help kick off Creek Week Saturday, September 19th by participating with volunteers worldwide on the 25th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, then bring the family to the Watershed Resource Center to enjoy creek activities and crafts.

Tour the Arroyo Hondo Preserve, the Carpinteria Salt Marsh, or the Upper Las Positas Creek Restoration Project. Help clean the creeks before the rains wash trash to the ocean! Volunteer to clean up Higgins Springs in Carpinteria, or help cleanup after the West Beach Music Festival and receive a festival pass for next year!

Learn about efforts to restore the endangered steelhead trout to our local creeks. Take the kids to explore Sycamore Creek, or enjoy an evening bird walk with the Audubon Society. With a week packed full of events, there is something for everyone!

Construction of the Upper Las Positas Creek Restoration Project.

Upper Las Positas Creek Restoration and Storm Water Management Program Update

On Monday, June 29, construction began on the Upper Las Positas Creek Restoration and Storm Water Management Project at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.

The purpose of the project is to detain and treat storm water and incidental runoff at the Golf Club in order to improve water quality downstream in Las Positas Creek, the Arroyo Burro Estuary, and at Arroyo Burro Beach. The project involves constructing vegetated channels and basins that will actively treat polluted water from urban areas. Construction is scheduled to take place through mid November 2009.
