If you're a flea, hop over to the fairgrounds this weekend for a great time and super seafood, and visit your Rivers Coalition booth to support the estuary cause.
The Nautical Flea Market (for people, too) runs all three days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-20.
Located at The Martin County Fair Grounds at 2616 SE Dixie Highway, Stuart FL and is easy access from the Florida Turnpike and I 95. There is plenty of free parking.
Meantime, there will be no general membership meeting this month.
The Coalition continues to work with attorneys Marzulla & Marzulla on our riparian rights lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. More legal briefs have been requested and Judge Lynn Bush will on or before Oct. 27 receive suggested dates for a major hearing in the case.
The lawsuit has sparked interest in possible ways to curtail the damaging discharges into the estuary from Lake Okeechobee, including the planned purchase of U.S. Sugar lands that could provide a missing link to restore the River of Grass in the Glades.
The final meeting of the Rivers Coalition for '09 is set for Oct. 29 at Stuart City Hall.
