EARTHDANCE 2009 LAYTONVILLE, CALIFORNIA THIS WEEKEND!
The 13th annual Earthdance Festival will take place at the renowned Black Oak Ranch off HWY 101 in Laytonville, CA  September 25th – 27th. The ranch is also home to many well known activists and artists, including Wavy Gravy’s Camp Winnarainbow for children.

For 2009, Earthdance Northern California will unite with over 350 locations in 60 countries across the world to create the most conscious global festival of our time. The Earthdance Northern California Festival will bring together an unprecedented line-up of conscious musicians, visual artists, DJ's, speakers and activists, who believe in a sustainable future for our planet. Working with the theme of “Blessing the Children,” the festival will host 5 music stages and will feature high profile conscious artists from many genres of the international music scene, including World, Electronica, Hip Hop, Folk and Jazz.

Also included will be an indigenous elder’s council, made up of indigenous elders from many nations, who will share wisdom and sacred ceremony. An important part of the festival will be a compelling educational component called the “Activist Alley”, where festival patrons can interact with both local and international non-profit groups. These organizations will share information and workshops on relevant global and local issues, inspiring local participants to take a stand for the future of our planet.

A highlight of the festival will be a synchronized global link up, taking place on Saturday the 26th, when at 4pm (PST), Earthdance California will synchronize with over 350 locations in 60 countries. At this precise moment, a specially created song called the “prayer for peace” will be played in every location at the same time.
The festival will also feature a wide variety of ‘Healthy’ vendors supplying many types of international foods and eco wares. Food, water, camping, and even HOT showers, are all available to festival attendees. By uniting our diverse communities through the universal platform of music and dance, the festival will send out a strong message of peace and global sustainability. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Earthdance non-profit, A California based 501c3 organization.

★ Starred Review, Booklist

“The book is a lovely addition not only for a children’s library but for all those who love the on-going iconography of reggae’s most profound proponent.”
—Roger Steffens, Bob Marley Historian and founder of The Beat Magazine

“Medina’s insightful freestyle poetry and Watson’s gorgeous illustrations combine word pictures and image poems in a feast for the eye and inner ear as creative in their presentation as Marley was in his.” —Chuck Foster, Reggae Festival Guide

REGGAE CULTURE SALUTE 2009
Honoring His Imperial Majesty

Launched in 2005, Reggae Culture Salute is the hallmark event of the Coalition to Preserve Reggae Music (CPR). It is an evening of roots rock reggae staged in commemoration of the anniversary of the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. The multi-media presentation highlights the organic relationship between rasta, reggae, Jamaica and Selassie which manifested in 2005 with performances by Luciano, Morgan Heritage and Third World.  Each year the line up reflects veteran contributors to the development of Reggae Music as well as promising emerging artists.

The fifth annual Reggae Culture Salute takes place in Brooklyn for the second time on Sunday, November 1st at the Nazareth Regional High School’s auditorium, 475 East 57th Street, between Clarendon and Avenue D.  Seventies stalwarts the Mighty Diamonds, currently celebrating their fortieth anniversary, will return as this year’s headliners for an evening of roots, rock reggae. The evening opens with Nyahbinghi drumming and chanting followed by a full screening of Stephanie Black’s film Africa Unite, a 90 minute presentation of Bob’s Marley’s vision.  Reggae Culture Salute is a royal and regal affair that is family friendly. Catering will be done by Tasty Delicious Restaurant. Media partners include ZYNC TV, WHATZ UP TV, Choice FM, One Exclusive Radio, Drive Time Radio Show, Red Hot Radio, Street Hype Newspaper and NY Liberty Star.

The Coalition to Preserve Reggae Music is a growing alliance of businesses, individuals and organizations seeking to preserve the art form and its traditional message of healing and unifying. The mission of the Coalition is to increase opportunities for practitioners of roots reggae and for lovers of the art form to enjoy wholesome cultural reggae performances.

CPR Community Conversation Series –In keeping with the Coalition’s mandate to raise the bar in the production, marketing and promotion of reggae, the Coalition established a series of community gatherings to hold open conversations about the state of the music and its impact on society. To date the CPR Community Conversation Series has been hailed as a huge success. A portion of the proceeds from the event will support the CPR Community Conversation Series.

'ALL REBEL ROCKERS' BRINGING CONSCIOUSNESS TO THE MUSIC CHARTS!
Anti-Records/Universal Republic Records’ musician/activist Michael Franti has been awarded the first gold single of his pioneering two-decade-plus career for his infectious/clap-along anthem "Say Hey (I Love You"). The acclaimed musician is riding a wave of affection for the feel-good smash hit, which has just been certified gold by the RIAA for selling 500,000 copies.

The song is making the biggest commercial splash of the artist’s influential career, with Franti and his band Spearhead also enjoying a sixty-point jump into the thicket of the Billboard Top Albums Chart for their acclaimed album, All Rebel Rockers, released earlier this year. The first single from the lively CD, "Say Hey (I Love You") is also making an unprecedented run towards the upper tier of several radio formats for Franti, currently #21 and climbing on the Billboard Hot 100, and closing in on the Top Ten at radio’s Triple A format and Billboard’s Adult Top 40 Chart. The single is #14 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Chart, with the song’s celebratory video drawing more than 1.7 million views on youtube.
The rapturous dancehall reggae hybrid-hit featuring Jamaica’s own Cherine Anderson has fast become a sales and request favorite via radio, video, and digital platforms. Launched by innovative Anti-Records, a deal was struck with Universal Republic Records this summer to join in the mainstream gardening of the genre-defying single, the first across-the-board smash for Franti and Spearhead after years of trailblazing releases fusing multiple genres, including hip hop, reggae, soul, funk, folk and pop. The album is also causing critics to gush with heaping praise: "All Rebel Rockers is an all-time high (for Franti)...a perfect marriage of artist, attitude, and style," wrote the U.K's The Independent, with About.com lauding the single: "Say Hey (I Love You") communicates love and joy /without/ dropping Franti’s social consciousness… this song is likely to expand the current horizons of pop..”
Recognized as a leader in contemporary, socially conscious music for more than two decades, Franti and Spearhead have pioneered their brand of musical humanitarism all over the world. The charismatic artist, poet, activist, songwriter/musician has encompassed a wide range of projects and social justice initiatives throughout his career. Franti and Spearhead's seminal 2001 album Stay Human began the band's ingenious hip hop, folk and funk genre-fusing, with 2006's Yell Fire and their current All Rebel Rockers exploring their more Reggae-inspired influences. All Rebel Rockers was produced in Jamaica by iconic reggae producers Sly & Robbie, mixing languid grooves and combustible rhythms with Franti and the band's soul-stirring message of love and compassion.

JACK RADICS : : SOUL WIND
Another breath taking album "Soul Wind" by Jack Radics Released By: X terminator, Jamaica. This is another amazing album, but one is to expect this from One of Jamaica's Most unique and Prominent Vocalist.  Jacks' irresistible stage performance and voice quickly and firmly established his reputation, repeatedly as one of the greatest entertainers.  In Jamaica, Jack Radics belongs at the spearhead of these artists who control all variants of the genre and have reached in their profession more or less everything one can achieve."Soul Wind" speak for itself.

J-ROSS PARRELLI : : Lov'n Mak'n Music
Compare a voice as sultry as Christina Aguilara with an emcee as lyrical as Method man, with a mentors like KRS-ONE (Stop the Violence Movement) and freestyle champion, Supernatural, (Guiness Book of World Records and Rock the Bells), one can understand where emcee/soul singer J-ROSS.PARRELLI  gets her talents.

“I grew up watching J5, listening to Tina Turner, Cher and Bob Marley. With four brothers deep, we would fight over who was going to be Michael”. With a recent tour through Russia and the west coast promoting her debut album “Lov’n Mak’n Music”, and a previous tour through the west coast of Africa, J ROSS-PARRELLI is crossing charts to the top. www.msparrelli.com

ON THIS DAY IN REGGAE
 September 25
1977: Ras Ghandi (Duaine Bowen) is born.
1997: Sir Paul McCartney makes his second plea for decriminalization of cannabis.
"I support decriminalization. People are smoking pot anyway and to make them criminal is wrong," he told the New Statesman magazine. He said it was pointless to fill jails with people who smoked cannabis because this was likely to turn them into true criminals. Citing his own experience of being arrested for possessing marijuana in Japan in 1980, he said he learned nothing from it. "When I was jailed in Japan for having pot there was no attempt at rehabilitation. They just stuck me in a box for nine days."
His first plea was made in London Times on July 25, 1967.

WHEREVER YOU SEEK THE HIGHEST IS HOLY GROUND
This life, you must know
as the tiny splash of a raindrop.
A thing of beauty that disappears as it comes into being.
Therefore, set your goal.
