THE FIFTH EPISODE OF NICHOLAS Da SILVA'S GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES 'DREAD AND ALIVE' FEATURING DREW MCINTOSH: JAMAICAN SUPER HERO
|
|
|
Dread & Alive (continued)
"Come along, Drew,” Maria said as she adjusted the thatch-woven basket on her shoulder. She waited for Drew, but at that moment two higglers carrying heavy loads on their heads blocked her view of him momentarily. When the women had passed, Drew was nowhere in sight. "Drew!" Maria called out, frightened. "Drew, where are you?"
Suddenly, she felt a tug on her pant leg. Turning around, she was surprised to find Drew standing behind her. "How did you ...?" Maria muttered to herself. She looked down at the boy then back to the spot where he once stood. "Never mind," she said, shaking her head as she took his hand. "We have one more stop before we head home."
With Drew by her side, Maria approached a group of feisty higglers eager to sell their goods. She shrugged them off to visit an elderly woman sitting alone among the group. She was not aggressive like the others, but sat quietly on her spot on the sidewalk.
Maria approached the woman. Good morning to you." She smiled, greeting the woman warmly. "And a good morning it is," the woman replied. Maria crouched in front of her elder to examine the produce, an assortment of fresh vegetables and fruits ... mangoes, cho-chos, coconuts and yams, and a variety of squash. Carefully looking over the goods, Maria selected a firm, yellowish-red mango and brought it close to her nose. The old woman smiled briefly then glanced at Drew, now standing behind his mother.
"What’s your name, boy?" she asked.
Placing several mangoes in her basket, Maria turned to look at Drew, waiting for him to answer.
"It’s okay,” Maria urged. "You can tell her your name."
"Drew," he answered, shyly.
"You’re a nice boy, Drew," the woman said, smiling broadly. “Let me see your hand.” Drew hesitated for a moment, looking up at his mother as if to get permission. Maria brushed a strand of dreadlocks from his eyes, then nodded as if to say ‘yes'. Clutching the snow cone in his right hand, he held out his left. The woman took it, laid it face up in her palm and smiling, she gently ran her finger over the lines displayed there.
“A long journey lies ahead for you,” she whispered.
Maria half listened, still looking over the produce as the old woman continued. “As you grow older, you will be tested among many and you will be the victor. However, victory will be short-lived.”
The higgler's eyes widened. “I see tragedy … you will lose someone very close to you.” The woman's comment caught Maria's attention, sending a chill down her spine. "Oh my, Oh Lordy!" the old woman exclaimed, suddenly releasing Drew's hand. “What is it?!” Maria asked, frantically.
“The boy..." The higgler looked up at Maria, her eyes dull with fear. “Many people will die because of the boy.”
“That’s enough!” Maria cried, snatching Drew from the woman.
“You’re frightening him!” She quickly handed her a few coins. “You keep the change,” she said as she led Drew away.

THE 10 LONG 10 STRONG COUNTDOWN IS ON!
(Kingston, Jamaica) - The countdown to the finale of the Magnum 10 Long 10 Strong anniversary concert series is now on and the Magnum team has been busy rehearsing and preparing for the grand showdown.
The show is slated to take place this Saturday night in Junction, St. Elizabeth and will feature some of the most successful reggae and dancehall acts, namely: the, Mumma of the Dancehall, Lady Saw, the King of Nuh Behaviour, KipRich, who is also fresh from the United States; reggae's finest, I-Octane, the fiery Swatch International, Fame Fm's DJ Nicco, the Magnum Girls, Boasy Bwoy Floyd and more.
The free event is slated to begin at 10 pm sharp and promises to be a finale full of surprises. "I can't give away the surprises, but it's going to be something people will be talking about for a long time. The people of Junction don't have to pay a dollar. All they have to do is come out and enjoy themselves, drink some Magnum, which will give them all the energy they need to party all night long. They are deserving of an early Christmas gift and in this economic climate we simply couldn't ask them to spend to see these phenomenal artistes and our spectacular lineup," said Category Manager at Lascelles Wines and Spirits, Gary Dixon.
In addition, one lucky Junction, St. Elizabeth female will get the chance to hang out with dancehall hottie, KipRich backstage at the event. All they have to do is send an email with their telephone number to blueprintpublicity@gmail.com and state KipRich's correct name and in what year was Magnum Tonic Wine established.
"We are going all-out for Junction and nothing I say will prepare them for the fun the Magnum team has in store for them," said Dixon.
SEAN KINGSTON TO PERFORM IN KINGSTON, JAMAICA!
(Kingston, Jamaica) - It's going to be a jolly January thanks to Coke Zero. The Herculean brand knows Christmas isn't the only season for giving; as such, the Coke Zero family came up with a brilliant way to both, kick-start the new year, while saying 'thank you' to their loyal Jamaican costumers.
It will take the form of a trailblazing concert like no other. The first-rate event which will be staged January 16, 2010 at the LIME Golf Academy, St. Andrew will feature Reggae and Dancehall scorchers including: Etana, Ding Dong, Alaine, Tessanne Chin, G-Whizz, Demarco, Elephant Man, Tifa and Laden, the Coke ZeroChino, D'Angel and Serani; and believe it or not, it still gets better. artistes:
Headlining the show will be international superstar Sean Kingston and to sweeten the deal (yet again), this will be the first time patrons will be able to catch Kingston performing in, you guessed it, Kingston. The Ocho Rios native is known for his debut single, Beautiful Girls, which in 2007 peaked at the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks and the UK Singles Chart in addition to other international charts. He then moved on to rack up additional hits, including Love Like This (alongside Natasha Beddingfield), Take You There, and more recently two chart-toppers, Fire Burning and Face Drop, both from his sophomore album Tomorrow released in September of this year.
All that and more will be accessible to patrons with an entry fee too sweet to believe. All patrons will have to do to gain access to the concert is provide three Coke Zero labels and pay $100 at any Burger King or Mother's restaurant and they will be able to instantly redeem a ticket to the supreme event.
Coca Cola's country manager, Chris Hardy says, "Yes, only three Coke Zero labels and $100. Unbeatable value and it's all because Coke Zero has so much to be grateful for and we just want to say thanks to Jamaica for embracing the brand with open arms. We've embraced the culture and the country, and Jamaica has shown nothing but love to us."
Of the 10, 000 tickets printed for the January 16 event, a substantial amount has already been recouped by patrons since the advertisements hit the airwaves last week. With a number of top-secret surprises still left to be aired by Coke Zero, the concert will undoubtedly leave tongues wagging for days to come.
CHINO WINS MUSIC AWARD
On Saturday night, Dancehall and Reggae artiste, Chino walked away with the prestigious award for 'Best New Artiste' at the Stone Love 37th Anniversary staged at the Mas Camp, New Kingston. He says, "I put in a lot of hard work and I feel very happy but humbled that it is being recognized in the industry. So nuff blessings and thanks to everybody and Stone Love for seeing that."
In addition, Chino also recently released the video for the number one single, From Mawning. Directed by Michael "Biggz" Burbridge, edited by Troytan and produced by Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor, the video promises to be yet another hit among fans. This weekend, fans can catch Chino as he heats things up on a number of shows across the island.

Aromatherapy recipes are a great way to infuse your food with healthy and flavorful herbs. To use aromatherapy recipes in your cooking, you can either use essential oils in your cooking recipes or use dried aromatic plants and herbs as ingredients in food preparations.

In addition, using aromatherapy recipes in your meal preparations can help you lose weight. Eating more vegetables, fruits and vegan protein flavored with herbs and flavored essential oils will provide you with the vitamins and nutrients you need in your diet.
One way to cook using aromatherapy recipes for plants and herbs is to infuse your ingredients with these aromatic plants or essential oils. You can create your own aromatherapy recipes infused meals by cooking with oil and water that contain a few drops of essential oils.
You can also use aromatherapy plants as they are in your meals. You can combine herbs such as basil into your salads or combine them with your vegetables.
Another way to use aromatherapy recipes is to create herbed vegan butter. You can create herbed vegan butter by drying aromatic plants and herbs, then mixing the ground, dried aromatic plants and herbs with vegan butter. You can then use this vegan butter for cooking and seasoning with your meals.

JAMAICAN REGGAE LEGEND WILLIE STEWART JAMS WITH STUDENTS AT BROWARD CENTER
|
|
|
|
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, designated as the county’s first international cultural embassy by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, has given students a passport to other cultures through its interactive “Arts Inspires…” annual workshop, which has featured artists such as Romero Britto and Pablo Cano.
Recently during “Arts Inspire… Jamaican Rhythms," percussionist Willie Stewart led a drumming workshop for 60 fledgling musicians from Winston Park Elementary and Parkway Middle School. Stewart, who has performed around the world and with legendary performers such as Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Bob Marley, Quincy Jones, Sting and Michael Jackson, educated students on the influence and impact that Africa has had on Jamaica’s people, rhythm/music and culture.
The workshop was presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the School Board of Broward County with participation by the Jamaican Consulate.
“With a significant Jamaican community in South Florida, we are pleased to partner once again with the Broward Center to educate, celebrate and promote Jamaican culture to local students,” said Consul General Sandra Grant Griffiths of the Jamaican Consulate.
The Abdo New River Room of the Broward Center was the backdrop for the workshop, where students were first introduced to percussion instruments from around the world. They then focused on musical concepts such as rhythm, timing and beat; tonality and harmony; performance techniques; and the role of percussive music forms in ritual and culture. The workshop culminated with a performance by Stewart and the students, who demonstrated the rhythms they learned during the workshop to an audience that included School Board of Broward County members Maureen S. Dinnen, Phyllis C. Hope, and Benjamin J. Williams; The Honorable Sandra Grant Griffiths of the Jamaican Consulate; and representatives from the participating schools.
“The School Board of Broward County is committed to educating the total child,” said Maureen Dinnen, of the School Board of Broward County. “The arts are a critical component of our educational programming, kindergarten through 12th grade. In the workshop, we saw students energized, excited and inspired to meet and learn from Willie Stewart. We are proud to participate in such a rewarding program that offers our students enriching and memorable educational experiences.”
More than two million students have attended educational programs at the Broward Center through the nationally award-winning Student Enrichment in the Arts partnership program with the Broward Center and Broward County Public Schools. The two organizations also collaborate on initiatives which encourage literacy skills among pre-school and elementary school children.
“Collaboration has always been central to the Broward Center’s mission. Our partnership with Broward County Public Schools allowed us to create the “Arts Inspires…” program, which connects talented artists in our community with our students and helps them learn about the rich mosaic of cultures we enjoy in South Florida,” said Broward Center President and CEO Kelley Shanley. “I am delighted that the event focused on the tapestry of cultures that have influenced Jamaican music – and highlighted the richness of Jamaican culture. Our partnership with the Jamaican community, which started with the Jamaican Consulate in Miami and continues to grow, has allowed us to bring many exciting Jamaican events to the Broward Center.”

HELP FEED HUNGRY CHILDREN
|
|
|
|
Presently, hunger is an unacceptable reality for too many children here and around the world. The UN reported that over 25,000 children under 5 die every day due to preventable causes, including hunger. Although Nafasi would like to eradicate hunger totally we know that is not within our grasp today. We cannot allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the enormity of the problem.
The solution to the problem is not doing the big things that change human history but for each of us to do a small thing that will add up to a big thing because we cared. We want to address hunger here in Indianapolis and in sub-Saharan Africa. This act of caring does have a financial component.
To have the financial means to accomplish our small part of the solution, we propose to provide a unique public exposure experience for your company, a special entertainment experience for our city and raise the funding to ease the hunger of young people here and in Africa via:
WHAT: Nafasi Reggae Fest 2010 WHERE: Broad Ripple Park WHEN: August 7 & 8, 2010 Times: Sat. Aug. 7, 11am 11pm Sun. Aug. 8, 1:00 pm 8pm To learn more about Nafasi, visit us at www.nafasi.net

LT. Brooksie : : From Den Till Now
|
|
Spanish Town born artiste/entertainer Lt. Brooksie started his DJ career by practicing his skills on a cassette player in his community. He became a member of the J.C.D.C. outreach training program, which provided him some early exposure to grooming. His first recording was a single called ‘Thank Jah Jah” produced by Patrick Dunn on the Irie Vibrations Music Label in 1995. Brooksie got his first taste of popularity while he was a member of "Potential Crew", a group he formed early in career and included members Western Ranks (D.J.) and Singing Crystal.
Potential Crew did well in those days and made several appearances on local Television and Radio Programs. The crew recorded over twelve songs for various producers which included an entry in the J.C.D.C. popular song competition entitled "Say It Out Loud", they won 3rd place in the finals and the trophy for best performance. Being a member of the Potential Crew provided the opportunity of performing on many major events such as Sting 1999, The Crowning of Miss Inner City, Potential in Concert held at the Little Pub in Ocho Rios, the Poinciana Beach Resort Hotel and Bob Marley 56th Birthday Bash in 2001, Jamaica National Building Society taff, Awards Luncheon in 2001 and The Airanox Business and Technology College Graduation Ceremony held at the Wyndham Montego Bay Hotel. Lt. Brooksie played with the group for over three years before he decided to go solo.
Brooksie re-established his link with Creative Sounds, the second music company he associated his self with at the beginning of his career. Under Creative Sound management, he recorded a television and radio ad which constituted part of the 2001-2002 Red Label Wine ad campaign. The success of that ad created other opportunities in the field to include ads for the Jamaica Observer and Bill Express. Lt. Brooksie went on to record other singles for Patrick Dunn and Irie Vibrations Music, more notably was a single called "My baby is gone", featuring Reggae artiste Rick Anthony. My baby is gone got some amount of airplay on Irie FM and other local radio stations, a music video was shot and released to promote the single which subsequently went into rotation on several local television and cable entertainment programs.
Since then Brooksie did a number of recordings namely; "No Gun Town", "Music Sweet", "Don't Lose Control" and “More weed” a collaboration with Canadian Reggae artiste Johnny Kneumonic. More weed created an impact in Canada which led to Lt. Brooksie’s two weeks visit in Canada where he performed on two shows and did a number of interviews on several Radio stations including CHRY 105.5 and Zion Train Show with Natty B and Bigga. On his return from Canada, Lt. Brooksie performed on "The Original Manhattans” in concert featuring Dorothy Moore, Dobby Dobson, George Nooks, One Third and Nickesha Barnes. He also performed consecutively for three (3) nights at the Disco Inferno in Montego Bay, Fayors Entertainment Centre Mandeville and the National Indoor Sports Arena in Kingston. Lt. Brooksie is currently recording tracks in anticipation of completing his debut album. He is also recording songs for producers in Europe to establish himself in that market.

Hawkeye : : Hawk-Xtra
|
|
'DAMN' is the first single from the upcoming album HAWK-XTRA from hawke, this song speaks strongly about the injustice, inequality, manipulation and dissapoinments that the ordinary person faces each day.
This track was produced by Shane Brown from jukeboxx records. Hawkeye attacks current affairs, political issues, he identifies the problems of modern day living situations and tries his best to give the best solutions.

Kiwi : : Mischief Reigns
|
|
Mischief Reigns is the latest release by Kiwi, a band comprised of the vocal duo of Vera and Alex, and accompanying musicians. Intensely melodic vocal arrangements set to solid roots rhythm and bass are the hallmark of the Kiwi sound, and, true to form, their 2009 effort draws listeners in with a diversity of theme, arrangement, and instrumentation.
The song 'lemon' is a fusion of two previously written songs: lyrically, both parts comment on individualism; the first a critical view on the tyranny that comes about from a self-centered mentality, while the latter is an optimistic twist on the theme, suggesting the power of inspiration and insight.... Soaring melodies and intertwining harmonies add a unique twist to a foundation rhythm and bass, while touches of organ and guitar provide flavor and ambience.
available soon on itunes, etc...

DELLY RANX:www.itationrecords.com

|
 |
Itation Records, which recently minted its hit-making status with a 2008 Roots Riddim Of The Year award from United Reggae for its World Go Round riddim, is proud to release its first album featuring Delly Ranx on September 15th.
'Good Profile' features production from Buju Banton, John John, Muzik Factor, Chimney Records, Awful Music Production as well as Itation’s own quality work over 18 dancehall, reggae and dance tracks with hip hop and R&B mixed in for good measure.
Guest appearances by Johnny Osbourne, Chico, Fiona, JR and instrumental arrangements from Tune In Crew put Good Profile on a different level among dancehall releases. Two singles; “Wish Good” and “Ice Cream Love” featuring foundation dancehall artist Johnny Osbourne, are already receiving love everywhere, and the latest single, “Rasta Nah Bow”, will burn the flame even higher!
Opening with the hit single, “Wish Good”, on Itation and Tune In Crew’s massive one drop World Go Round riddim, Delly Ranx sets a cool and conscious tone. Also, be sure to check out the video for “Wish Good” produced by Itation, along with Urban Umpires out of Oakland, CA.
Singing to his strengths, along with a skillful mix of creative lyrics and tight production, Delly continues a rootsy poetic flow on “Past The Worst”.
Good Profile sees Jamaica’s top deejay, Buju Banton, contribute a pair of sure fire dance hits from the other side of the vocal booth. Buju, the producer, and Delly, the vocalist, first team up on “Murder”. This song carries a serious message, as well as massive bass and pointed percussion, creating a trigger reaction of unrestrained body whining.
On “Pleasure Pain”, produced by Delly, this playful, bright one drop riddim has Delly singing, “just smile when know see me a come/woman you know you caan done”. “Caah Get Me Out” is a straight up dancehall joint displaying Delly’s unsullied street cred. Versatility, however, is crucial and “Working Class” adds a creeping orchestral hip hop mix with entertaining results.
Foundation dancehall artist, Johnny Osbourne, adds his stamp of approval to “Ice Cream Love”—a unique smash version of Johnny’s original—which has been burning up the charts all over the world on the shoulders of its heavyweight riddim and Awful Music Production’s Lloyd James Jr.’s nasty production. “Lady Of My Dreams”, “Virgin Wine” (featuring JR), and “Im Going Crazy” (featuring Chico) make sure the ladies are satisfied with just the right lyrics and body moving melodies.
Delly takes a spiritual tone on “Rasta Nah Bow”, an Itation production with the indisputable Tune In Crew providing a driving roots riddim that never tires. The energy doesn’t disappear from track to track as “Do Good” takes a bouncy electro vibe and passes it off to Itation’s Higher Meditation riddim led by Delly’s compelling “Don’t Burn The Fields”. Nothing can dull his shine on “Don’t Choose”, another Tune In/ Itation collaboration where the melodic lines ebb and flow in tandem with Delly’s lyrical stream of consciousness. “Hold Me Close” on the Show Love riddim brings Fiona into the mix for a passionate “he said, she said” type of moment. R&B is the order of the day on “Things Friend” where the catchy hooks poke holes in the motives of pretend friends. Hip hop vibes on “World Need Love” and dance floor beats on “Sensi Ride” complete Good Profile with a little something for everybody. It’s a good look for Delly Ranx and promises to be a great listen for reggae and dance fans everywhere! www.itationrecords.com

The Great Invocation - maitreya
source: worldprayers.org
From the point of Light within the Mind of God Let light stream forth into the minds of men. Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God Let love stream forth into the hearts of men. May * Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known Let purpose guide the little wills of men -- The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men Let the Plan of Love and Light work out. And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
* In Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish translations of the Great Invocation, the name of the Coming One is spoken as - Lord Maitreya, Krishna, the Imam Mahdi and the Messiah.
