UNA MORGAN MAKES BREAK-THROUGH PROGRESS WITH NEW SOLO ALBUM
Una Morgan is the sole female sibling of the Reggae band of this decade, Morgan Heritage. Despite having ten studio albums under her belt with her family band, having performed for stadium-sized audiences across the world, and having garnered much of the success and longevity that many artistes can only hope for, Una took a step back from the limelight in 2006. “I wanted to take time to recreate and develop myself physically, mentally, and spiritually.” During this time she also focused on building her production company, SIA Entertainment, strengthening family ties, improving her physical health and connecting with her spirituality.

As a true performer, however, Una could not sit back idly. Now as a solo artist she has developed with her own distinctive sound. Una Morgan’s signature sound is a blend of Reggae, Dancehall, Pop, Hip Hop and Soul fused to be appropriately called Raggasoul. With this distinctive sound, an excellent voice, and great studio production, Una’s single ‘Giving’, produced by Lenky ‘Diwali’ Marsden (producer of Sean Paul, Nina Sky etc.) perfectly captures her sound.  She is also excited about her contribution made on the ‘Tribute to Haiti’ track produced by the great Handel Tucker (producer of  ‘Close to You’ and ‘Just a Little Bit Longer’ by Maxi Priest, ‘House Call’ by Shabba Ranks and various hits with Sly and Robbie and Beenie Man).

Una is also working with acclaimed local and international producers on her debut solo album. She is very excited about working with multi Grammy Award winning producers Commission Gordon (credited with work for Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Joss Stone), a collaboration that was set up by Rubikon ENT, who list Gordon among their clients.

Her solo album presents collaborations with established and new names in the industry.  On her album, she worked with other established producers and writers, such as Stephen McGregor, Jimmy Cozier, and Taj from the 90’s group The Boys. Una has also returned to her hometown of Springfield, Atlanta to work with rising stars such as Kiana India, ME, and producer “X”.

To address the rumors, Una ensures her fans that her solo venture is not signaling the breakup of Morgan Heritage. “We always knew that we would build as a group, use that foundation to take things to the next level, and then come back to the family.” You can even find some more Morgans on the credits, with brothers Mr. Mojo and Gramps assisting in mixing and production, a true testament to the strong bond that keeps their family together.

Looking to fully capitalize on her groups’ international success, Una has recently signed to Gary George Inc. (GGI) and Rubikon Entertainment management companies to use their pooled wealth of resources for management and legal services to propel her development. Rubikon is a UK-based management and legal firm that provide management and legal & business affairs to a slew of prominent artistes and producers amongst other entities.

Miss Morgan, even though blessed, has not let her accomplishments go to her head. She remains humble and has made it her personal mission to use her celebrity status and music to champion issues such as health, weight management, self-esteem, and other issues plaguing women around the world. “I’m very concerned that many young women today are doing things to please everyone else. We need to work on being one with the Creator first, and I hope my music can inspire young women to do that.”

The Raggasoul songstress, Una Morgan, hopes that with her new album, entitled ‘Just Me’, she can show her evolution in music, life, and spirituality, while continuing to uphold her family’s legacy.

MIGHTY DIAMONDS RECEIVE RAGGA MUFFINS FESTIVAL AWARD RECOGNITION
In honor of more than 40 years together as a vocal trio, the Mighty Diamonds received the Ragga Muffins Festival Award of Recognition on Feb. 21.

Following their performance at the sold out 29th annual Ragga Muffins reggae festival at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA, Fitzroy “Bunny” Simpson, Donald “Tabby” Shaw and Lloyd “Judge” Ferguson were presented with trophies on behalf on the festival and Moss Jacobs Presents.

“The blessings are there, and we are here to share them; that’s the most important thing,” said Shaw, who has been the Mighty Diamonds’ lead vocalist since he was a teenager.

The Mighty Diamonds were backed by Jamaica’s Yellow Wall Dub Squad and California’s Celebrity Hornz. Backstage after the show, the Diamonds mingled and posed for photos with the likes of Tarrus Riley, Edi Fitzroy, the Wailing Souls and actor Leon. The Diamonds last performed at the Ragga Muffins Festival in 1994.

In November, 2009, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke recognized the Mighty Diamonds with a Congressional Proclamation for their 40 years of hits and contributions to the music industry, when TSO Productions and the Coalition to Preserve Reggae Music held their 5th annual Reggae Culture Salute at Nazareth High School Performance Center, Brooklyn, NY. Check out the youtube link of the presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzCo0oxDoo0.

Also in November of 2009, the Diamonds released a remake of one of their first hits, “Country Living” (originally done by the Stylistics) produced by the England based Simba on his Small Storm label and distributed by the High Times label. The recording features Shaw’s nephew, Wilburn “Squidly” Cole (drums) and Winston “Bo Pee” Bowen (guitar).

In 2006, following their performance at Reggae Sunsplash in Ocho Rios, the Diamonds received a prestigious national award from former prime minister Portia Simpson Miller for their artistic contribution to Jamaican culture.
Known for hits such as "Pass the Kutchie," "Right Time," "Master Plan"  “Tamarind Farm,” “Reggae Street” and “Sweet Lady,” the Mighty Diamonds formed
in Trench Town Jamaica in 1969.

The Mighty Diamonds’ breakthrough album “Right Time,” elevated the group to rock star status in 1975. Produced by Joseph Hoo Kim, "Right Time" brought together the Jamaican musical elite such as Sly and Robby (drum and bass) and Ancel Collins
(keyboards) generated hits such as "Africa," "Have Mercy" "Natural Natty," "Them Never Love Poor Marcus" and the reggae party album, "Pass the Kutchie," which has been sampled by everyone from Lauryn Hill to Michael Franti to Wyclef Jean.

The Mighty Diamonds have also released their latest single, "Special Lady," a remake of Ray, Goodman and Brown’s 1980’s ballad, on their independent label, Street Corner Music.

THE 15TH EPISODE OF NICHOLAS Da SILVA'S GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES 'DREAD AND ALIVE' FEATURING DREW MCINTOSH: JAMAICAN SUPER HERO
Dread & Alive....is an ongoing graphic novel series about Jamaican Super Hero Drew McIntosh. If you missed any episodes, click here to read:

Philip sat quietly in the truck, scanning the area. He then turned his left wrist over to check his watch.
"That’s strange," Philip said. "They should be here."
       "Who?" Maria asked.
       "Our guides. Cudjoe promise he would send a guide and a few porters to help us find our way through the rain forest."
        "Maybe we’re early?'
        "That could be," Philip said, unfastening his seatbelt. "You and Drew stay in the truck. I’m going to have a look around.” Philip turned the key, shutting down the motor before opening his door from the outside. He stepped out and pushed the door shut.
      "Don’t wander off to far?" Maria asked.
       "Don' worry.  I’m just going to have a look around.”
            Maria and Drew waited anxiously inside the Land Rover watching Philip head across the open field toward the mouth of the entrance. They watched as he scoured the surrounding dense foliage, pushing it aside, lifting it, looking behind the bigger patches of scrub for any physical signs of the guide.  The area appeared to be deserted, the only sound coming from a light breeze rustling the leaves. Stopping just a few feet from the entrance, he crouched to the ground and picked up a twig, studying it for a moment before tossing it aside. He then looked up, squinting against the sun and into a blue sky. The day was beginning to heat and that brought several questions to mind: What if the guides didn't arrive? Should they attempt the journey alone? And if so, would they be able to make it through the treacherous Cockpit Country?
            It didn't take long for Philip to discard any idea of going on without a guide. He would never put his family's safety at risk.  Rising slowly to his feet Philip headed back to the truck, staring at the ground as he walked. Nearing the Land Rover, he glanced up at Maria and saw her gesturing with her finger to look behind. Philip slowly turned and saw three loin-clothed Maroon warriors standing in front of him. They were slender yet muscular, and one carried a long, sharp machete. Seeing the weapon, Philip moved forward with caution, keeping some distance between himself and the men. There was silence as he approached. When he was within a few feet of the warriors, the one carrying the machete spoke.
            "My name is Cubbenah."  He smiled. "I will be your guide into the Cockpit Country."
            Philip let out a relief-filled sigh. "I’m glad to meet you, Cubbenah." Philip turned and signaled to Maria that everything was okay.
            Cubbenah continued."We will help you with your equipment."
            "Great," Philip said, looking over the two warriors. "I think we’re going to need all the help we can get." A moment of awkward silence again lay heavily between the two men before Philip spoke.  "De journey -- she be safe?"
            "Yeah, Mon," Cubbenah replied.
            "Then let’s unload the gear from the truck and we can be on our way," Philip said, starting to move toward the Rover.
            Cubbenah nodded and motioned for his men to follow him. When they reached the Land Rover, Philip leaned into the driver's side window. "This is Cubbenah," he said to Maria and Drew. "He’ll be our guide into Cockpit Country."

CHEF MAYRA'S - HERBAL CURES FOR ARTHRITIS
Arthritis is nothing new: even dinosaurs had it. So did primitive man. The Latin word arthritis means "inflammation of the joint" but actually refers to many different forms of the disease. Osteoarthritis (also called degenerative arthritis), the most common type, usually results either from injury or from normal wear and tear on the cartilage of frequently used joints. The condition called rheumatoid arthritis is an auto immune disease and is more severe.

Early Americans called any disorder involving pain and stiffness in the joints rheumatism. Aching joints were often rubbed with warm chicken fat, goose grease, or skunk oil, sometimes mixed with wintergreen oil. The oil, at least, is still prescribed today for its pain-relieving properties.

Non-weight-bearing exercise is an important component of combating arthritis. When one is in pain, there is a natural tendency to minimize movement, but inactivity only weakens the muscles that stabilize the joints. Specialized stretching and strengthening exercises can help maintain flexibility. Swimming (preferably in a heated pool) and walking, as opposed to high-impact sports like tennis and running, are good ways to maintain overall fitness.

Arthritis is most easily treated when it is discovered early. See a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms: persistent early-morning pain and stiffness in the joints; swelling; recurrent pain in any joint, especially joints on both sides of the body; loss of strength in association with joint pain; unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and fever accompanied by joint pain.

Red pepper Also called capsicum or cayenne pepper, red pepper has recently gained popularity as an arthritis remedy. It contains a substance called capsaicin, which reduces the levels of a chemical compound that transmits pain signals to the brain. Mix a few dashes of the ground pepper with 2 to 3 teaspoons olive oil. Apply with gauze several times a day. Allow a week or more of continued use for the desensitization to take place. The first few doses will cause a mild burning sensation. Alternatively, capsaicin ointment is available commercially. It is also an ingredient in several over-the-counter products. Cayenne is highly irritating. Keep it away from the mouth, eyes, and other mucous membranes, and avoid direct contact with the pepper's seeds.

Wintergreen The oil from wintergreen leaves contains methyl salicylate, a close relative of aspirin. Modern-day herbal healers prescribe wintergreen oil in external preparations to reduce joint and muscle inflammation and pain. The number of applications should not exceed five per day. Wintergreen oil is toxic if taken internally.

Dandelion Studies in the 1980s found that dandelion root has moderate anti-inflammatory properties. The powdered root extract is available in capsule form. Liquid root extracts are also sold. To make tea from a plant, add 3 tablespoons finely chopped dandelion root and leaves to 2 cups cold water. Boil for 3 minutes. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before straining. Drink it three times a day. Some people may have allergic reactions after handling dandelion.

Chamomile -  This herb has long been used as a tea for digestive upset. More recently, it has been used as an external compress for arthritis because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Brew a strong infusion using 2 tablespoons dried flowers in 1/2 cup hot water. Steep, then strain. Soak a clean cloth in the liquid and apply. People allergic to pollen may experience an allergic reaction.

Evening primrose The gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) found in the oil of the seeds of evening primrose, a common wildflower, was shown in scientific tests to have an effect on pain and morning stiffness associated with rheumatoid arthritis. The oil is available in both capsule and extract form.

KY-MANI MARLEY’S RAW BOOK TAPES TO BE RELEASED BY FARRAH GRAY PUBLISHING
By 1stAngel

The Farrah Gray Publishing Company in response to Ky-Mani Marley’s outright denial of his authored memoir “Dear Dad: Where’s The Family In Our Family, Today?”, released February 6, which coincided with Bob Marley’s 65th birthday is releasing interview tapes to the media, which will reveal sharply expressive and intimate details of his life and Marley family members.

“Ky-Mani’s interview with Jamaica’s The Gleaner newspaper and numerous other media outlets, including his public statements on his Facebook and MySpace pages, I feel his denials have thrown me and the publishing company under the bus. I didn’t write his book, I published it. This is his story; these are his words and now I have to prove it,” states Dr. Farrah Gray, the publisher.

“Ky-Mani was happy with his book but surprised by the Marley family strong objection to his revealing ‘Dear Dad’ memoir details to be released, that they preferred remained in the family lock box. The publishing company was caught off-guard by the intensely negative reaction that the book must be halted, changed or not be published at all,” said Gray.

Ky-Mani’s book, “Dear Dad: Where’s The Family in Our Family, Today?” The Story the Marley Family Apparently Doesn’t Want You to Know (Farrah Gray Publishing; February 6, 2010; ISBN-13: ; $14.95; Original Trade Paperback), is currently ranked # 1 Reggae bestseller in the world and ranks in the top 10 celebrity memoirs, according to Amazon. Reorders of “Dear Dad” have placed by Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other major book retailers due to popular demand.

ARTISTES BLACKLISTED IN GERMANY
source: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/entertainment
BY STEVEN JACKSON

GERMANY, Europe's largest economy, has blacklisted 11 dancehall albums between 2008 and January 2010 this year because of their homophobic and violent content.

Albums by Sizzla, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Capleton, TOK and Baby Cham are on this list, or "index", compiled by the German Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM) Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien in German.

Stakeholders counter that up to 35 dancehall albums or songs had been blacklisted since the BPjM's conception including Legalise It by reggae icon Peter Tosh, which was later removed.

The BPjM told the Sunday Observer that it is illegal to advertise these albums or to sell them to minors in Germany, with additional restrictions placed on their sale and distribution. "Breach of ...[the] indexing is punishable by a fine or imprisonment," stated Corinna Bochmann, BPjM spokesperson, in response to Sunday Observer queries.

Ten of the 11 albums were not only considered "harmful to young people" but also contained violent lyrics, according to the BPjM, with lyrics that incite hatred and propagate to kill homosexuals. The BPjM indexed these albums following complaints by certain groups such as the German gay lobby. "The BPjM can only act on the request of other administrative institutions, not by itself. Once an official request has been filed, the BPjM is obliged to act," stated Bochmann.

Ellen Köhlings, editor of German reggae magazine Riddim told the Sunday Observer that dancehall is ironically filliping the gay lobby's agenda. "These lyrics violate German laws which gives the lobbyists legal grounds to successfully censor music and gain media exposure," Köhlings said.

"The gay lobby is looking for cheap forwards just like some artistes look for a cheap forward," she stated.

Köhlings added that artistes could compromise by maintaining their anti-gay stance but avoid the use of violence. "At the end of the day there are much more urgent things to talk about than homophobia, and artistes should leave out, in my mind, the violent bashing of gays."

Riddim magazine has at times assumed the role of dancehall mediator, as the industry has no lobby in Germany: "We have been doing everything we can to restore the image of Jamaica, but we can do only so much. In the long run Jamaica needs to take action," Köhlings noted.

Violent anti-gay lyrics have been a feature of dancehall music for over 15 years with the Buju Banton classic Boom Bye Bye credited as its progenitor. The international gay lobby, in response, has petitioned the German government to ban shows and the sale of records by these artistes. Last year, Banton and Beenie Man were yanked from shows due to the lobby in the US, Australia and New Zealand. Local gay organisation J-Flag told the Sunday Observer that Jamaican deejays are not being unfairly attacked by the international gay community.

"Their music promotes violence, hate and hardship for members of a community that at no time has threatened or hurt them in any way. This is an unwarranted and unprovoked assault on a set of people who have a right to exist," stated Jason McFarlane, J-Flag programmes manager. He added that dancehall artistes who continue to perform "hate-filled music" must be held accountable. "The influence of music on any society must not be under-estimated. What must be understood is that artistes have a right to express what they feel but also must be held responsible for the possible impact they can have on people. Music, in particular Reggae and Dancehall, is universal and so we must be aware of the wide reach of the possible influence of any one artiste."

BLAKK RASTA FIRES AT GHANA MUSIC AWARDS AGAIN
By Nii Atakora Mensah, Ghana Music.com

Come 10th April, 2010, the Ghanaian music industry will celebrate its most accomplished and successful artists for the year 2009, but reggae star, Blakk Rasta will not partake in the Ghana Music Awards ceremony. Not only will he not attend, but he'll also do his best to enlighten audiences about the 'Reggae Song of the Year' category, as www.Ghana Music.com can confirm.

Three days after Charter House released the nomination list of the 11th Ghana Music Awards, Blakk Rasta openly looks at the Reggae Song of the Year category.

According to Blakk Rasta, 'Mama Africa by Black Prophet has been nominated two times. I was one of the first DJs that played the song five years ago. They did another error last year by nominating two songs of Black Prophet titled 'Doubting Me'' and 'Mama Africa' and didn't know which title went to which song.

When Ghana Music.com crossed checked from popular music download sites like iTunes and Cdbaby, it can be confirmed that the 'Mama Africa' was released in 2006 on the "Legal Stranger" album and that Black Prophet has a new album titled "Prophecy" released in 2009 which had no song nominated from it.

Blakk Rasta is so disappointed and further continues to say this is the biggest insult to the Ghanaian music.

Blakk Rasta says, Kojo Antwi dropped his album last year around December which has lasted about three months on the market. 'It's a shame and the song, 'Adiepena' does not merit the nomination. This clearly gives you an idea that the song does not fall in the music calendar of GMA".

He adds that 'no one has heard Wutah's 'Jay Will Be There'. I have only played it on my radio show once. No one knows it, period'.

Blakk Rasta's comments come on the heels of those by several musicians like Kwaw Kese who has criticized the selection committee of being biased.

Blakk Rasta says he intensely told Charter House not to ever nominate his works in Ghana Music Awards again. 'Kojo Antwi has been on my radio show to say that he doesn't want his works included in GMA, others like Kiki (Becca's manager), Daddy Lumba and Mzbel has followed up to what I have done', he said.

Blakk Rasta said to Ghana Music.com that Ghana Music Awards should be scrapped and described many of the acts nominated at this year's ceremony as "an embarrassment.".

In a lengthy phone conversation with us (Ghana Music.com), he continued that 'Samini's Trigger, Stonebwoy's ''Hills & Valley', Kyiken's 'Dubba Dubba' and Becca's 'Daa Ke Daa' reggae version could have been placed in the Reggae Song of the Year category'.

Blakk Rasta says he couldn't 'care less' about the Ghana Music Awards because they mean nothing as to the real value of an artist and that is he is even invited he won't go.

'The 'Barack Obama' hitmaker last year expressed his distaste for last year's Ghana Music Awards where he labeled Charter House as a 'criminal organization' to which he was disqualified for his insulting manners by the Planning Committee.

Blakk Rasta has rubbed shoulders with some of the world's biggest reggae and dancehall greats from Jamaica, including, Capleton, Elephant Man, Kalli Bwoy, Zed, Rita Marley, Mutabaruka, Etana, I-Three and the Bob Marley Family. His song 'Barack Obama' has received rave rotation airplay on international media networks such as the BBC, CNN and Deutsche Welle, as well as reviews in New York Times and hundreds of tabloids across the world.

REESE BADDA RELEASES TEAR DROPS VIDEO
By David Saba,  Rastaboyz.com February 26, 2010

Toronto - Independent Canadian Dancehall Artist Reese Badda released the much-anticipated video for his single Tear Drops on February 23rd.  Tear Drops is a song about temptation, specifically the sexy two-legged temptation that can be found in nightclubs late at night.  The character in the song looses his wife after too many lies and a carelessly placed phone.  Sound familiar?

Tear Drops was recorded well before people heard of Tiger Woods’ escapades though (which ironically became public knowledge because of a carelessly placed cellphone) but it shows how relevant the material is.  We asked Reese about the inspiration for the song, was this a true story, perhaps about himself?  He laughed and stated it’s “Not for me.”  He said he’s “conscious of those things happening in the scene”, but that Tear Drops wasn’t about any one person in particular.  He said the message was that “If you have a good girl, stay true . . .and get out if you shouldn’t be there.“  Reese is pleased with all the positive feedback he’s been getting since Tuesday’s release, and is already planning his next single which he says will probably be more of a club-type track.  He’s also planning on releasing his next mixtape, titled “In The Future”, in late March.

Tear Drops” was produced by Magelantic Studios, who also handled Reese’s last video, “Nah Lie”. The video was directed by Omar Lord, and features fashion model Amanda Layne acting in the role of the wife. It was shot on location in Toronto and Brampton, including the nightspots Club Frequency in Toronto and The Place in Brampton.

The “Tear Drops” mp3 can be downloaded here on iTunes.

REGGAE ICONOCLAST JIMMY CLIFF RETURNS WITH ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION AND MOST EXTENSIVE U.S. TOUR IN 20 YEARS
NEW ALBUM ALSO IN THE WORKS, MORE INFO AT: http://bit.ly/cliffnews

Grammy-winning musician/actor/singer/songwriter/producer Jimmy Cliff returns to the world stage in 2010 with his fullest slate of activity in decades.  On March 15, he will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York City.  Wyclef Jean will induct Cliff, who is also scheduled to perform that evening.  The ceremony will air live on Fuse TV.

Following the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Jimmy Cliff will mount his most extensive North American tour in over twenty years.  Kicking off June 11 at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA, the tour will include stops at Bonnaroo's main stage, Toronto's Massey Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl, with many more dates and major festival performances to be announced soon.  See below for a select itinerary.

Jimmy Cliff is also putting the finishing touches on his first album of new material in six years, to be released later in 2010.   He shares his thoughts on the new album here: http://bit.ly/cliffnews

Jimmy Cliff is the only living musician to receive Jamaica's Order of Merit, the country's highest honor for achievement in the arts & sciences.  In 2007, he was also honored with a doctorate from The University of the West Indies.  In a career that spans nearly fifty years, he has sold more than twenty million albums, with over twenty-five releases to his credit.  He has appeared in several films including, most famously, 'The Harder They Come,' whose impact on reggae and pop music in general can scarcely be overstated.  He has collaborated with countless other legends including The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Joe Strummer and Annie Lennox.  Bob Dylan has called Cliff's "Vietnam" the best protest song he ever heard, and a short list of artists who have covered Cliff's compositions ranges from Willie Nelson and Cher, to New Order and Fiona Apple.

ONE LOVE
BOB MARLEY lyrics - One Love
One Love! One Heart!
Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);
Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo!

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);
There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!
What about - ? Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love!);
So shall it be in the end (One Heart!),
All right!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
One more thing!

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).
Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner;
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation.

Sayin': One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)
What about the - ? Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleadin' to mankind! (One Love!);
Oh, Lord! (One Heart) Wo-ooh!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
