March 16 is also the release date for the live album and documentary, which chronicles The White Stripes' 2007 tour of every province and territory in Canada. It will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, CD and vinyl.
Tickets to the Egyptian screening are free with purchase of the video or album. If you purchase the DVD, Blu-ray or vinyl, we will give you two tickets to the screening; if you purchase the CD (available at the $9.99 Right Price), we'll give you one ticket.

JOSHUA TREE ALBUM RELEASE PARTY MARCH 11 AT THE RX!!!
 |
After 25 years, local honky-tonk/roots/country favorites Joshua Tree have released their first album, Live at the VaC, and The Record Exchange is helping them celebrate with an album release party at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11.
Johnny Shoes, who founded the band with fellow guitarist/vocalist Deborah Holmberg a quarter-century ago, said Live at the VaC is a gift for fans who have long been asking when the band was going to release an album.
"Whenever we were asked about releasing an album, we would always say 'soon' — it became a running joke," Shoes says. "Now they can stop asking."
Live at the VaC is comprised of one original tune and nine covers, but Joshua Tree's first album is not a collection of country hits — rather, it's deep cuts and band/fan favorites from the likes of Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell and others. "We were really making it for the people, the fans we've been playing for for years," Shoes says.
Purchase Live at the VaC or anything else during the in-store and receive a coupon good for 15% off your next purchase (excluding sale items). Rawk on!

VISQUEEN IN-STORE MARCH 13!
 |
Visqueen will visit The Record Exchange for an in-store performance at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 13. As always, this Record Exchange in-store concert is free and all ages.
If you haven't heard of Visqueen, here's the skinny: From opening for Muse and Vampire Weekend at a sold-out show to being named NPR's "Biggest Surprise of the Year," the band jettisoned itself to national attention in 2009. With the band having filmed a new video, and a tour down to SXSW with a stop at Noise Pop in San Francisco, things are certainly rolling on for the band in 2010.
Press quotes:
"The band is so fun; it sounds a little like Neko Case and Joan Jett, and there's nothing wrong with that." — Stephen Thompson, NPR, naming the album "The Biggest Suprise of the Year"
"It's a warm-hearted, hardworking album, pushed forward at a breakneck power-pop pace by whalloping drums and grinding, giddy guitars, clearly uninterested in wasting any single second of anyone's time." — Rachael Maddux, Paste Magazine
"From the disc's opening blast, 'Hand Me Down,' to its crashing coda 10 songs later, 'Jimmy vs. James,' the music is insistent, urgent, thrilling. There are no wasted notes, no flash distractions." — Joe Heim, Washington Post
Purchase Message to Garcia or anything else during the in-store and receive a coupon good for 15% off your next purchase (excluding sale items). Rawk on!

NEW RELEASE OF THE WEEK: GORILLAZ 'PLASTIC BEACH' FOR THE $9.99 RIGHT PRICE AT RX!
"Only behind such a distracting smokescreen could Damon Albarn get away with conducting a project as sprawling, daring, innovative, surprising, muddled and magnificent as Plastic Beach: not just one of the best records of 2010, but a release to stand alongside the greatest Albarn’s ever been involved with and a new benchmark for collaborative music as a whole." - Mark Beaumont, BBC

BRMC'S 'DEVIL'S TATTOO' AND OTHER CD RECOMMENDATIONS
Beat the Devil's Tattoo signifies Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's first full-length on their own Abstract Dragon label, in partnership with Vagrant Records and Co-Op Music Group. The band wrote and recorded most of the album at The Basement Studio in Philadelphia — the same room where they wrote and recorded Howl — as well as some work in their hometown of Los Angeles. Beat The Devil's Tattoo also marks the first album with drummer Leah Shapiro (Raveonettes).
If you pre-purchased Beat the Devil's Tattoo at BRMC's Record Exchange in-store, it is now available for pick-up!

NEW DVD/BLU-RAY: DEFINITIVE JIMI HENDRIX AT WOODSTOCK
This special two-disc presentation of Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock stands as the definitive record of one of Jimi's most celebrated performances. This all-new deluxe set features all of the existing film footage from Jimi's unforgettable August 1969 Woodstock concert, newly re-edited and presented uninterrupted and in its original performance sequence. Live At Woodstock includes never-before-seen versions of "Foxy Lady," "Message To Love," "Hey Joe," "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Lover Man," and an all-new 5.1 and 2.0 stereo soundtrack mixed by Eddie Kramer, Jimi's original studio engineer.

THE VINYL WORD: PAVEMENT REISSUES ARE NOW IN STOCK!

THE RIGHT PRICE AT THE RX: WHITE STRIPES, GOLDFRAPP $9.99 TITLES COMING SOON!
 |
Think local. Think indie.
That's the spirit of the Right Price program, which offers you great deals on new releases at The Record Exchange and keeps money in your pocket while keeping you away from the mall.
This week we have Gorillaz Plastic Beach for the low, low price of $9.99. Then as soon as that sale ends, we'll have two more for you. That's right — a triple-stacked Right Price month here at the RX. To wit:
• The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights (March 16): Jack and Meg continue their bizarre journey through the pages of music history with their latest installment, a live album and companion piece to the DVD of the same name. Oh, and just in case you didn't already know, we're screening the DVD at the Egyptian Theatre on March 16. See above for details.
• Goldfrapp Head First (March 23): Quite possibly the U.K. duo's catchiest, poppiest album yet. "We wanted to write songs that had a simplicity to them and that just got to the point quicker," said singer Alison Goldfrapp.
Peep our full list of past Right Price CDs, which all sold for $9.99 the week of their release right here at the RX:
The Magnetic Fields Realism
Spoon Transference
Norah Jones The Fall
John Mayer Battle Studies
Nirvana Bleach Deluxe Edition
Say Anything Say Anything
Gov't Mule By a Thread
Flight of the Conchords I Told You I Was Freaky
Built to Spill There is No Enemy

RX STAFF PICK OF THE WEEK: JOANNA NEWSOM'S TRIPLE LP
How about this for a creative outpouring: Folkie Joanna Newsom's new album Have One On Me is not a single LP, not a double LP, but a freakin' triple LP. Freak-folk yeah!
That's a lot of music to digest, but RX barista Elliot Soriano was up for the task, and he loved it so much he made the album his Staff Pick of the Week. And so says Elliot:
I've been anticipating this album for the last two years, since I first heard a live version of "Esme" on YouTube. I believe it's the first time I've heard a horn section added to her music and it is so beautifully done. I haven't been this genuinely enthusiastic about an album in my entire life. I hope that statement doesn't discredit me from being a Record Exchange employee.

THE BEST BOOK ABOUT RECORD STORES SINCE 'HIGH FIDELITY'
 |
The Vinyl Princess, written by Amoeba Records cofounder Yvonne Prinz, has been call the best book about record store culture since Nick Hornby's High Fidelity.
If you've ever fallen in love over a mixtape, alphabetized your vinyl or worked in a record store (or wanted to), you'll want to read this book, a hilarious look at a young girl's obsession with vinyl collecting.
But don't take our word for it. Take theirs:
“A funny and poignant insider's look at record store culture.” —Terry Zwigoff, director of Ghost World
"The Vinyl Princess will make you tune in, rock out, and dream on.” —Daniel Handler, author and Lemony Snicket's representative
“The true record collector's obsessive love of music and its artifacts, and the East Bay in all its quirky, resolutely peculiar glory really come to life in this, the only book that has ever spurred me to plow through several layers of stacked apartment detritus to get at my old Jeff Beck LPs. And yes: Telegraph Avenue really is exactly like that, and Truth still sounds as great as it ever did. Beautifully done.” —Frank Portman, musician and author of King Dork and Andromeda Klein
"As dead-on a portrait of a true-blue teenage music obsessive as you're likely to find. Prinz totally nails it." —Colin Meloy, musician, the Decemberists
