KY-MANI MARLEY AND DR. FARRAH GRAY MAKE AMENDS
AND BEGIN 27-CITY BOOK TOUR:

I stand behind the content of my book “Dear Dad” 100%, published by Farrah Gray Publishing. My story is “my story”, and I don't deny who I am or my experiences. My issue was with the subtitle only.

During the final edit of the book, I spoke with my sister, Cedella Marley, CEO of Tuff Gong Records, and I advise Dr. Farrah Gray that some changes had to be made, by the time I had the changes ready, it was the day of the printing, which would have obviously complicated the logistics, causing

Farrah Gray Publishing damages and disruption. Farrah Gray Publishing felt as if the subtitle was needed to explain the complexity of the situation.

After my approaching Dr. Farrah Gray again and expressing my limited concerns, Farrah Gray Publishing has agreed to modify the subtitle on all new copies of “Dear Dad” and we are celebrating the resolution of this modification.

Dr. Gray and I will be going on a 27-city tour, both domestic and international and persevere above it all.

I have not only written and performed songs of redemption around the world like my father, but I have lived and survived to tell my own personal inspiring redemptive story in the face of abandonment.

I encourage my fans and my father's fans to read “Dear Dad”, the title derived from my hit song “Dear Dad”.

There is another issue that has hit close to home for both Dr. Gray and I: Farrah’s sister, the late Greek Gray, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and he became the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) spokesperson.  I have two young sons that suffer from sickle cell disease, ultimately inspiring me to establish my charitable “Love Over All” Foundation (LOAF).

However, here's the irony: a bone marrow transplant match is the best hope for a cure or a longer life for those afflicted with leukemia and sickle cell disease.

During the 27-city tour, he and I will launch a nationwide public awareness campaign to educate the public about the need for more Black and African American bone marrow, blood stem cell, and umbilical cord blood donors to join the NMDP Registry.

THE 18TH EPISODE OF NICHOLAS Da SILVA'S GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES 'DREAD AND ALIVE' FEATURING DREW MCINTOSH: JAMAICAN SUPER HERO

Dread & Alive....is an ongoing graphic novel series about Jamaican Super Hero Drew McIntosh. If you missed any episodes, click here to read:

18th Episode:

As the day progressed, the stress of the journey began to take its toll on the group, in particular, Maria. Her body ached and her legs trembled. Beneath her clothes, she was saturated with sweat. Every limb, every muscle ached; fatigue was setting in. Her struggle to concentrate, to keep moving, robbed her of the attention Drew needed and she let go of his hand.
            Drew was following his mother but, this being his first trip to the rain forest, his curiosity soon began to get the best of him. As the distance between them increased, Maria became oblivious to the change. For Drew, the arduous journey had now become an exciting adventure. Full of energy and spirit, he was easily distracted by his surroundings. From time to time, he would pause to admire the different plants and the small insects that scurried underfoot.  Every sound, every movement demanded his immediate attention.
            During one stretch of the journey, when Drew was admiring the thick roots of the dogwood trees, he heard movement in the underbrush. He decided to investigate, wandering off the trail in pursuit of the unknown. For several minutes, he followed the invisible creature that was hidden under the thick foliage. The two warriors, chattering in Kromanti, an Akan language, stop to watch Drew. It was then that Maria noticed her son was no longer with her. Having just reached the peak of yet another hill, she began calling for him.
            "Drew ... you back there?"
            There was no answer.
            "Drew! Where are you?"  Maria shouted, turning around to send her voice in another direction.
            There was no sign of Drew, only the two warriors who were standing quite a distance from her. They were staring into the thick underbrush to the right of the trail.
       Maria called out again, fear rampant in her voice. "Drew? Where did you go, boy?"   Receiving no answer, she started to run back down the hill.
       But Drew did hear his mother's call and decided to give up the search and return to the trail. As he began making his way through the growth, he felt something brush lightly against the back of his head. He turned ... and screamed in terror.
            "Drew!" Maria cried out, as she ran and slid down the hill. Philip and Cubbenah, hearing the scream, raced toward the sound. Maria was first to reach the area but found only the two warriors pointing to where Drew was standing. She peered into the bush and froze. Not only had Drew wandered off the trail, he had managed to come face to face with the rain forest biggest predator, the Jamaican Boa.

ZIGGY MARLEY PRESENTS: DANCEHALL ORIGINATORS VOL. 1

Multiple Grammy winning artiste Ziggy Marley and Tuff Gong Worldwide present "Dancehall Originators Vol. 1", the first in a new series of dancehall reggae albums designed to pay homage to the groundbreaking original artistes that paved the way for dancehall artists today. The album, which will be released on February 2nd, features tracks by Chaka Demus, Yellow Man and Buju Banton among others (track list below).

In 1992, producer/songwriter Phillip Smart, founder of Long Island's HC&F Studios, created the scorching "Hot This Year" riddim, whose bouncy keyboard riffs and resounding bass were considered groundbreaking at the time. From its initial release, "Hot This Year" inspired numerous other artistes, including Shaggy, Yellow Man, Buju Banton, and Chaka Demus, to use it as a basis for their own songs. It also inspired the durable and popular song "Hot This Year" by the late DJ Dirtsman which crossed over into other radio formats. "There weren't that many reggae records that crossed over to R&B radio at the time, and Dirtsman's song went from reggae radio shows to getting airplay in regular rotation on New York stations", recalls Phillip Smart. "So that put it in a different format and the song became a favorite in clubs that didn't play a lot of reggae."

Because it so deftly illustrates such an important era of dancehall reggae history, ‘Dancehall Originators’ is a must-have for any knowledgeable dancehall devotee, as well as more recent reggae converts.

The Tuff Gong label was founded in 1965 by Bob Marley, with the vision of producing, distributing and promoting his music free from the constraints of corporate label politics. Decades before artiste-owned record labels were commonplace, the legendary Bob Marley's vision was characteristically well ahead of its time. Now, nearly a half-century later, his dream is being realized.

DON CARLOS – TOURING NORTH AMERICA - JUNE / JULY / AUGUST 2010

Veteran reggae artist Don Carlos did the Bob Marley Day shows in southern CA and Mexico in Feb. 2010. In March he tours Europe, and in April he tours South America. June he does shows in Costa Rica and Mexico, and then he is scheduled to do some western U.S. shows along with the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival. Early July he does some European festivals, and then he commences a full North American tour including the Reggae on the River festival.

Don has a new CD out called Changes, that was released January 2010 and is selling well. It has been a top seller on I-Tunes.

In 2009 Don also toured Europe and South America. April 2009, he toured the western U.S, where he is currently one of the most popular reggae artists, and in August he headlined the Monterey Bay Reggaefest.

Don’s band is in good form, with luscious female harmonies, sharp decisive horn phrases, classic songs and solid engineering by Loren Miller – his front of the house engineer. Don’s spirit is positive and his crew is well worked in.

On Reggae Rising 2008, Don headlined Sunday night, and was also featured prime time with Sly and Robbie, Junior Reid and Garth Dennis on Saturday night. Shortly thereafter, he went to Europe to do the festival circuit again there. February 2008, Don did the Bob Marley Day shows in San Diego and Mexico, and then completed a European tour. In June/July 2008 he toured Brazil and Peru, where he is greatly loved and appreciated

In 2007, Don toured Poland, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Holland and France in Europe. On the festival circuit he played Earthdance, in northern CA, The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Reggae Rising, Music in the Park in San Jose, CA, The Monterey Bay Reggaefest, the Upsalla festival in Sweden, the Reggae Sundance in Holland, and the Reggae Summerjam in Germany. Sly and Robbie backed him on Reggae Rising prime time Saturday night. Don has also been touring Hawaii regularly, where he headlined the Bob Marley Day festivals February 2007 on all four of the major Hawaiian Islands.

Don is a melodic singer whose classic songs are well arranged and executed live. He is a mature artist, definitely one of the nicer and more genuine singers in the reggae business. His band has remained consistent for the past eight years.
Don’s gentle contented spirit is a comfort to his friends and fans. There is a class about him as an artist that promoters and venue owners take pride in.

On the recording side, Don spends much of his time in the recording studio. He has out seven albums with Ras records, and at least nineteen other releases on different labels. These titles are listed on his biography. Don recorded four albums with Black Uhuru for the Mesa Blue Moon label, and toured with Black Uhuru as lead vocalist from 1989 - 1994.

In his music, Don speaks for all people.  He talks about peace and love, generosity and righteousness.  He doesn’t leave out thanking Jah for everything.  “I love you and Jah loves you more”, he says.  “Love Jah, and you will have everything – all wisdom.”  Don has a big heart and a kind loving spirit. He is a special artist. Because of his blessings, the multitudes are drawn to him.

You can watch a video clip of Don performing live at the Maritime Hall, San Francisco, in the late 90’s at the following link:

Don Carlos (born Euvin Spencer) Legendary Reggae Artist was born and raised in one of the most deprived regions of Western Kingston, Jamaica, in a district notoriously known as Waterhouse, which incidentally is also a musical spawning ground for many of Reggae's greatest ever talents, such as King Tubby, Black Uhuru, The Jays, Junior Reid and King Jammy, to name but a few. Don Carlos started his singing career in 1973 as one of the original members of Black Uhuru, alongside other founding members, Garth Dennis who later went on to joining the Wailing Souls, and Derrick Ducky Simpson. As part of the trio, Don sang lead on the highly acclaimed Love Crisis album, for producer Prince Jammy in 1977. This album was later re-released and re-titled as Black Sounds of Freedom. A year after the trio's groundbreaking debut, Don Carlos surprisingly decided to leave Black Uhuru in pursuit of a solo career. Within three years as a solo artist, developing his song writing and grooming his distinctive vocal style, in May 1981 Suffering was released. This strong release took the fraternity by storm, courtesy of a heavy roots and culture flavored showcase for the Negus Roots label. This album was a massive hit in Africa, selling unprecedented units. Unfortunately, the album was bootlegged, and Don never received proper royalties.

 At this time, he worked alongside Goldie, his sidekick, co writer, and back up vocalist. Together they built a staunch following through touring the live circuit and releasing consistant albums including Harvest Time, Day to Day Living, Them Never Know A Natty Dread Have Credentials, all three issued in 1982, Spread Out 1982 also otherwise known as Laser Beam to which the majority of tracks in this set have been culled, Never Run Away 1984, Just a Passing Glance 1985 and more recently Seven Days a Week. Don’s partner, Gold was tragically shot and crippled, putting him out of the music business.

 During the eighties dance hall mania, Don had five top ten hits between 1982 – 1985- Late Night Blues, Nice Time Tonight, Dice Cup, Hog & Goat, I'm Not Getting Crazy and Spread Out. Don is still churning out solid, melodic roots reggae. Other titles in his rich catalogue include Roots and Culture, Raving Tonight, Pure Gold, Spread Out, Plantation, Never Run Away, Slow Down Vol. 3, Rasta Brothers, Prophecy, Firehouse Clash, Deeply Concerned, Ease Up, Lazer Beam, Ras Portraits, Grove w/me, Head to Head, Jah Light, Live in San Francisco (2002), and Special Edition.  There's an old saying in the music industry that claims: What goes around, comes back around. In Dons' case, a request for reinstatement to his former role as lead vocalist for a rejuvenated Black Uhuru reunion resulted in another strong Black Uhuru album – Now. 1990 marked the reunion of the original vocal trio with Don, Garth and Duckie. After six years- 1989-1994- and four albums, singing lead for Black Uhuru in the studio, and on the road, Don again went back to his solo career. His other titles with Black Uhuru include Mystical Truths, Iron Storm and Strong. All of these four albums are classics with Don up front on lead vocals.

After the Black Uhuru stretch, Don joined forces with the California based Reggae Angels who backed him for mfour years. He then kept some of the core Reggae Angels musicians for his own permanent backing band. He has been touring successfully with this band in Europe, South America, Hawaii, and the western US. Don’s popularity has been consistently growing, so he is now one of the most sought after roots reggae artists in the business. Check him out online at www.doncarlosinternational.com

CALICO : : Midtown Cali Ways
When was the last time you heard Jamaican Hip Hop?

CALICO has created his own musical genre by infusing Dancehall and Reggae with Hip Hop. It’s hard to capture the cool and welcoming demeanor of the talented Jamaican artiste/songwriter, CALICO.

He is Peter Tosh meets Bounty Killer with a tinge of Beanie Sigel. His powerful and distinctive voice brings back memories of Bounty Killer, his witty, thoughtful and positive lyrics draws comparisons with Damian “ Junior Gong” Marley and his unapologetic defense of equal rights and justice (and his fondness of unicycles) is in the vein of Peter Tosh.

At the core, CALICO is a dancehall DJ yet he represents a new generation of artists such as Collie Buddz and K’Naan that balances and blends different musical influences for a fresh, upbeat conscious, multi-genre sound.

After a 3 year hiatus during which time he became a Rastafarian and a father, CALICO returns with his much anticipated debut album, MIDTOWN CALI WAYS. The album has distinct island elements yet maintains the hard hitting percussion and “the needle to record” sound that comes straight from the Hip Hop playbook.

Listen for yourself- Midtown is place, Midtown is a vibe, Midtown is feeling!!!

SICK DONKEY RECORDS 19-TRACK STANDING FIRM RIDDIM CD COMPILATION FEATURING A TRUE GLOBAL CONVERGENCE

OF REGGAE’S TOP ARTISTS AVAILABLE NOW THROUGH

INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTION COLLECTIVE, ERNIE B’s REGGAE,

VP RECORDS, and on I-TUNES

Okanogan County, Washington based record label, Sick Donkey Records proudly announces the release of its various artists CD compilation, the Standing Firm Riddim, The compilation features the Sick Donkey Records stable artists, Jahson Ites, Huckleberry, and Essential I and a full array of top global Reggae artists.  Pulling together the best Reggae artists from the Pacific Northwest (Adrian Xavier), Humboldt County, California (Ishi Dube), SF Bay Area (Wisdom), Brooklyn, NY (Rocker T) and the four corners of the Earth: Lutan Fyah, Chezidek, Half Pint, Prezident Brown (Jamaica), Haji Mike (Cyprus), Ras Attitude (U.S. Virgin Islands), Ms Triniti (Trinidad), Promoe (Sweden), Elaine Shepherd (Canada), and Ras Indio (Belize), was a natural for the CD project in the spirit of the label co-owner BlueJay (aka DJ Sticky)  “World C.U.P.” vision for unity through conscious Reggae music.

Sick Donkey label artist, Jahson Ites explains “The Standing Firm Riddim was born in the cab of a beat-up red F-250 pickup in 2006, miles past the end of the pavement.”  As the musical daydream of a Rasta hillbilly woodcutter from Chesaw, Washington, it has become became one of the foundational sounds of roots reggae in the new Millennium. I borrowed inspiration for the new chorus from a classic Jacob Miller track (much of my best work has been inspired "The Killer")."Standing Firm" (1978) itself was built on the "Take 5 / Russians Are Coming Riddim", a 4/4 adaptation of Dave Brubeck's classic 5/4 jazz instrumental "Take Five"(1961).”

In February 2007 at ElectroKitty Studios in Seattle, WA, I played the demo for Davee C, Lennox Holness, & Adrian Xavier of the Dub Championz. They listened to it and played along two or three times. I called out the changes to the band during the actual takes, and the core of the track was finished in under an hour. These sessions were forwarded to Stand Out Selector in San Francisco, where Anna Karney added keyboard parts and Bill Ortiz (Santana) & Marty Wehner laid the horn lines at Baby Fat Studios.”

 CD Track Listing:  1. Promoe - Migration 2. Jahson Ites - Standing Firm 3. Lutan Fyah - Watch Over Me 4. Elaine LilBit Shepherd - Judge Not 5. Rocker T - Harvest Time 6. Chezidek - Music Is Love 7. Essential I - More Strength, More Life 8. Adrian Xavier - High Grade Strain 9. Ras Attitude - Fret Not Thyself 10.Wisdom - Bubblin’ 11. Huckleberry - Chant Up Jah 12. Prezident Brown – Lionheart  13. Fyah Cracka Sounds (Jahson Ites, Essential I & Huckleberry) - Fire Burn 14. Ras Indio - Burn Them Out 15. Oren B. Scripture - Mr. Evil 16. Ms. Triniti - Dappa Swagger 17. Jah Sun/NorrisMan - All For Myself 18. Half Pint / Ishi Dube - Show It 19.  Haji Mike - Babylon Time

".....It's All On You precedes what is in my opinion the single biggest tune on disc two, the SCATHING Watch Over Me! Amongst the songs I'm not very familiar with, I've probably spun through Watch Over Me more than any other. The tune reminds (and does so HARSHLY) that the most important thing is to know that you walk with His Majesty, because in doing so, no wicked force shall stand in your way. HUGE vibes on that one..." - Ras Achis, 'Amazon Music's unoficial king of reggae' speaking of the song 'Watch Over Me' (on the Standing Firm Riddim) on his review of Lutan Fyah's recently released album AFRICA

 WORLD C.U.P
The World Consciousness Unification Project, or World C.U.P. is a way of bringing conscious, positive and uplifting recording artists from all reaches of the earth together in, and for, unity. In doing this we think it possible to spread a peaceful and important message to people in all walks of life.  Also, The World C.U.P. will bridge the gaps between social classes, races, nations & continents while providing an optimistic approach to bettering our ways of life and our natural habitats. With this project we plan to bring perspective to a global society in need of a positive outlook.  The project will consist of collaborations and individual contributions by well-known artists and composers as well as lesser-known upcoming artists.

The Standing Firm Riddim CD is only the first installment, the spark to the fire, which is this movement.  With the support of artists and fans we hope to turn the World C.U.P. into a renowned movement for the advancement of consciousness and unity through cultural music.

REDEMPTION SONG

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;

Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
This songs of freedom
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fullfil the book.

Won't you help to sing
This songs of freedom-
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
---
/Guitar break/
---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fullfil the book.
Won't you have to sing
This songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.
