Across cultures, across centuries, knowledge of the planets and stars have always been a part of traditional ways. Today astrology is gaining popularity after being maligned by science for several centuries. Even through a huge amount of ancient wisdom has been lost in the corridors of time, astrologers are picking up the puzzle pieces, and creating a new picture more current with the needs of an evolving humanity.
Most people are aware of their Sun sign, thanks to the popular press of newspapers and magazines. But, astrology is much deeper, offering so much more. While the Sun sign shows your basic character, the picture is greatly modified and enhanced by the placement of your Moon, and all the planets within the daily cycle, based on the moment of your first breath. This monthly article is a composite view of all the planets, how they effect life on Earth, and larger planetary trends galvanizing our collective experience.
In light of this, we are not islands unto ourselves, separate from the greater whole. Each of us have all twelve zodiac signs in our astrology chart, and are effected by the planets to a greater or lesser degree. When the Sun moves through Gemini, as it does every year from May 20 - June 21, it stimulates an area of your astrological map. We see a multitude of ways for the zodiac teachers to manifest. Gemini has everything to do with a weekend getaway, an educational workshop, reading a good book, or sharing news with a friendly neighbor. For some people, Gemini steers them in the direction of a career in telecommunications.
In all these examples, one way or the other, Gemini shows up as communication in all its diversity and possibility. Gemini stimulates humanity to step out of the box, gather information, and be open minded to the adventure at hand. Those people having Gemini predominant in their personal astrology chart are known for their friendly, sociable, and curious mind. They have an inherent ability to set aside pre-conceived notions, and meet life in a pure, fresh, enthusiastic spirit. Their challenge comes when they rely too heavily on the intellect, because the mind is changeable, fickle, and impressionable.
On June 12, a Gemini New Moon brings new, extraordinary information and developments to the surface for humanity to process. The time for change is now, no more holding back. If you need to gather more information, the Gemini Moon supports that. If a vacation if planned, have a wonderful time on the road. If a key relationship needs a deep, relevant conversation, Gemini supports honesty and clarity. And, a New Moon is always optimal for starting any short term or long term project of a personal or business nature.
During the month of June, other planets enhance the relevance and process of communication. Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, enters Aries on June 6th. Uranus entered Aries on May 27th. Together they join at zero degrees Aries on June 8. This is a highly sensitized degree of the zodiac. Whenever planets cross this point, there is a burst of vitality, an unmistakable urge to act and break free from the past. This is a very rare combination of planetary factors, and the momentum has been building for months, if not years. The build-up has taken the form of obstacles, frustration and delays, simply because the time was not ripe.
The good news for June is the zodiac sign of Aries blends and works well with Gemini. Both of these zodiac signs are energetic and active. Gemini blesses us with curiosity and creative insight, while Aries blesses us with courage and forthright assertiveness. Inspiration meets action! The only real challenge is a tendency for impulsiveness. For many people, it will take some time for hair brained schemes to be sorted out from genuine, purposeful action and viable projects. This trend is best used for brainstorming, research, marketing, traveling, networking and education. Even though the surge begins in June, this planetary trend is life changing enough to encompass the next year, and take some time to fully manifest in this dimension. The days for maximum momentum are June 6 - 15.
There are some drawbacks, and these will become more evident as the month progresses. By the Lunar Eclipse on June 26th, obstacles beg to be addressed. More than likely, obstacles will take the form of finances, laws, tradition, and previous or current partnership agreements. The new trend calls for independence, self assertion, and acting in accordance with one’s true values and inner conscience. It is unrealistic to expect total agreement. Not everyone will be on the same page with new developments, and it may be a case of agreeing to disagree. This eclipse calls for adjustment in the area of relationship, especially in regard to family. This begins a very dynamic summer period of change in the area of relationship. Some relationships will dissolve while others evolve. Harmony comes from setting aside old agendas, and delicately remain open minded to other people and their choices.
The Lunar Eclipse reaches beyond our personal dramas to national concerns, activating critical degrees in the U.S. astrology chart. From this country’s inception, an abundance of resources have been available. From the blessing of clear waters, verdant forests, fertile plains to a temperate climate, this country has been able to realize a unprecedented level of prosperity. The astrology chart for the U.S. shows Venus and Jupiter, two great benefactors joined together, offering grace, opportunity and abundance for all. But, this positive combination has a dark side of dependence and entitlement. Current events conspire to provide an ideal environment for the U.S. to grow up and wise up.
For years, astrologers have considered the planetary influences for summer 2010. An extraordinarily rare alignment of planets in cardinal signs has been named the Cardinal Climax. The momentum of the climax started in 2008 and continues to 2015, but the full impact of the alignment is exact late July and early August. The planets involved are heavy hitters, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on June 26 adds Sun, Moon and Mercury to the mix. Thankfully, the beneficial rays of Jupiter add a touch of grace, but this is still a very tricky and complicated alignment. Geometrically, all these celestial bodies create a square, a cross around the Earth, activating the geomagnetic force field in four directions.
At this point, we don’t have to look far to see the effects. In particular, the Gulf Oil Spill has brought us to a decisive moment in history, and the repercussions are enormous. I have always seen the motion picture industry as mirrors of our collective consciousness, illustrating current trends and offering insight into what matters at any given point in history. This year’s sensational, moving and timely film "Avatar" tells the story. All the pieces are there. From every vantage point, our environment is the ultimate feedback mechanism of human ignorance and exploitation. The Cardinal Climax highlights the corruption and greed that has been the modus operandi of the status quo. There is no more hiding. All is coming out in the open, and it is time to act. A topsy turvy paradigm shift is upon us.
In astrological terminology, the word for action is cardinal. Four zodiac signs are active/cardinal, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. To get some perspective on this, let’s consider that for the past seven years, Uranus has been in Pisces, a mutable sign, meaning changeable and vacillating. For the past two years, Saturn has been in Virgo, a mutable sign. And, good old Pluto was in Sagittarius (1995-2008), again a mutable sign. It is hard to get the traction needed for momentum when there is a predominance of mutable energy. Mutable signs are primarily abstract, mental and philosophical. Now, each of these three planets are moving into cardinal territory. Pluto started the ball rolling when it entered Capricorn in 2008-09. This year, Saturn and Uranus enter Libra and Aries, respectively.
2010 is the year when the rubber meets the road. As a country, as a world community, we are called to take inspiration and ideas into action. "Change we can believe in" is now change we can see, change we can actively participate in. The necessity for action is apparent. Each of us are called to task, called to breakthrough limitations placed on us by conditioning, and take steps to sustainable living for the sake of Mother Earth, and all living creature. While the energies of this summer test us, perhaps we can see the planets as offering tough love to a rebellious humanity, bent on its own destruction, desperate for a wake up call. But . . . growing up all the same. Growing beyond messy, clumsy, self centered adolescence into wise stewards of a living ecosystem, our beautiful planet Earth.
