Why Natural Thyroid is Better than Synthetic
A few times every day, I find myself explaining why natural thyroid is superior to Synthroid. Many patients on Synthroid don't feel well, and have continued symptoms of muscle pain, fatigue, and weakness reflecting inadequate treatment with Synthroid. These symptoms are relieved by switching to Natural Thyroid pills containing desiccated porcine (pig) thyroid, a mixture of Thyroxine (T4), T3, T2, T1 and Calcitonin. The synthetic thyroid called Synthroid contains a single item, Thyroxine (T4), lacking the others contained in Natural Thyroid.
Ten million people in the United States take Thyroxine (T4) for their low thyroid condition. Abbott's Synthroid is the most popular form of Thyroxine, and the second-most prescribed drug in the U.S., and yet, most people don't realize there is a better choice. Bioidentical Hormones According to the LA Times
An article on bioidentical hormones appeared in the LA Times. The article omits important information. In 2003, after the Womens Health Initiative revealed that Synthetic hormones cause cancer and heart disease, millions of women abandoned the synthetics and switched to bioidenticals. Doctors stopped writing prescriptions for synthetics, resulting in a sudden and massive decline in breast cancer rates. This was omitted from the LA Times article. The article quotes two "hormone experts", yet fails to disclose their financial ties to the synthetic drug industry. The first synthetic hormone invented in 1938, was DES, (Diethylstilbestrol). This drug was used from the 1940s as an FDA-approved estrogen-replacement therapy. In 1972, the first reports of cervical cancer in the daughters of DES treated women was published in the New England Journal, and the drug was banned in 1975 after millions of women had been exposed. The take home message is that synthetic hormones are dangerous "monster hormones" to be avoided. Intelligent women have switched to bioidenticals, the safe and effective choice...
