VP TO DROP DENNIS BROWN BOX SET
The legend of Dennis Brown lives on as a three-disc compilation of his hit singles, The Crown Prince of Reggae - Singles (1972-1985),  will be reissued by 17 North Parade, a VP Records imprint, on November  16.

This collection of Dennis Brown hits promises to give Brown buffs a broader view of the legend than any previous compilations of his work. The  collection featuring anthems such as Revolution and Promised Land to  lesser-known works like Satisfaction Feeling and the gritty musical  ultimatum Praise Without Raise.

The bonus DVD sees Dennis Brown live in concert, backed by Lloyd Parks and We the People Band, in a 1979 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festiva -- the best-known music festival in Switzerland and one of the most  prestigious in Europe. It also includes seven additional hits that are  not included on the audio discs.

17 North Parade brings you these 47 Dennis Brown hits in one deluxe collector's package, which includes liner notes from journalist Carter Van Pelt, in a fitting tribute to this iconic artist.

Selected as one of National Public Radio's 50 Great Voices in 2010, Brown is the archetype of reggae vocalists and his unique, soulful sound has earned him legions of fans during his lifetime, including Bob Marley, who rated Brown as his favorite singer. Even with his premature passing in July 1997 at age 42, Brown's music continues to live on in the dancehalls and on radio today.

REVELATIONS
For over 40 years, Grammy® Award winning reggae Icon Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s name has become synonymous with experimentation and innovation both as a legendary producer and an influential performer. A towering figure, Lee “Scratch” Perry shaped the dub sound and made reggae music a powerful part of pop culture.

Recorded at Perry’s mountain-top studio in Switzerland and various studio locations in England, Florida and New York City and produced by long-time collaborator Steve Marshall AKA John Saxon for State of Emergency, Ltd., Lee “Scratch” Perry’s new album is entitled REVELATION.  Taking a hands-on approach, Perry not only fleshed out and developed the powerful lyrical content on the album, but also contributed his unmistakable hallmark of mastery of sound including synth programming.

Now in stores on the MEGAWAVE label, REVELATION presents the signature surrealistic and eccentric rhythmic genius of The Mighty Upsetter, featuring 13 of his best new songs in years with Marshall, Duncan & Green, Tim Hill, Keith Richards, George Clinton, Dr Sleepy, Alec Hay, elodieO, Abi Browning, and David Stewart Jones. Highlights include rock n’ roll legend Keith Richards on “Books of Moses” and a Lee “Scratch” Perry duet with George Clinton on “Scary Politicians”.

attn: Carlyle Daniel E207

To Whom It May Concern;
I am writing on behalf of Brother Wadi Gad (Carlyle Daniel) who I understand is being held by the INS and may face deportation.

I am the publisher of the world’s oldest and largest reggae magazine, called THE REGGAE FESTIVAL GUIDE (www.reggaefestivalguide.com) which educates and entertains people all over the United States and Canada about the importance and the spiritual aspect of reggae music. The magazine can also be seen around the globe through our digital edition. Wadi Gad graced the cover of our magazine several years ago.

I am also the publicist for Renegade Productions, Northern California’s premier concert company. www.renegadeshows.com

For the past 20 years, through my involvement with the above mentioned companies, I have worked with Wadi Gad many, many times. He is one of the hardest working musicians in the industry. He has a solo career but also backs numerous musicians who are on tour. I have ridden long distances in cars with Wadi going to festivals or home from a gig. I have talked to him many times on the phone. I know most of his friends. I see him over and over again at concerts and festivals where he is performing or networking.

He is a gentle, soft-spoken spiritual person that is much needed in our industry on the west coast. Please do not send him away from his home, friends and family. He must be about the same age as me and it is hard to start over. He is established here and welcome here.
Respectfully

"RISEUP" AWARD-WINNING FILM - JAMAICA PREMIERE
Seven years ago, Montego Bay businessman Mark Hart invited his old college friend, Luciano Blotta, an Argentinian filmmaker, to visit Jamaica and to bring his camera.  With no experience of Jamaica or reggae music, Blotta was immediately struck by the Island’s color and inner beauty.

The film he would make, along with his relationship with the Island, evolved into a love affair with the sights and sounds of Jamaica.  Although RiseUp is essentially a documentary spotlighting Jamaican music, the film transcends genre and niche, seamlessly weaving three distinct stories into one inspiring feature-length movie that is both dramatic and vibrantly explosive.

Upon viewing the film earlier in the year at a private screening on the Island, Chris Blackwell stated that “RiseUp is the best Jamaican film since The Harder They Come”.  International audiences have echoed the sentiment saying that RiseUp is like a ‘Jamaican Hoop Dreams' and the best movie to come out of the Caribbean in many years.  Both Jamaican newspapers, The Gleaner and The Observer, have praised the film, with accolades like “A New Classic.”  Directed and produced by Luciano Blotta, and produced by Darrin Holender, the film features appearances and performances by both emerging and legendary artists, with music by Sizzla, Daddigon, Sly & Robbie, Richie Spice, Turbulence and many others.

Always an audience favorite, RiseUp has toured the world for 18 months as an officially selected festival and special event film, screening in over 20 countries and winning awards such as the 2009 AFI/DISCOVERY SILVERDOCS Best Music Documentary Award.  Earlier this year, RiseUp was chosen by New York’s Lincoln Center Film Society to celebrate Black History Month and a one-hour version of the film was broadcasted by many television networks worldwide including the BBC.  RiseUp’s performances worldwide have revealed a special connection between the film and audiences from diverse backgrounds with people dancing, laughing and crying in their seats. Core reggae audiences and music documentary fans have lauded the film for its authenticity and entertainment value, while general audiences have praised the film for its original storytelling, inspirational tone and beautiful imagery and sounds.

In an interview with Australian press, Blotta stated, "I saw how much talent there is [in Jamaica], how flamboyant, different and creative all these people were, and it really inspired me." He is excited to finally share his seven-year project with audiences in Jamaica hoping that Jamaicans will appreciate this priceless portrayal of a uniquely proud country.  Entertainment industry veterans like BBC’s Nick Fraser and HBO director/producer Marty Callner, have commended Blotta's efforts as an invaluable contribution to both the Jamaican culture as well as the medium of documentary cinema.  It is no surprise that Blotta has found a home on the Island, making time to shoot videos for Jamaica’s talent and business communities.  He hopes that RiseUp can be a testament to Jamaica as a positive and inspirational experience for Jamaicans and non-Jamaicans alike.

The Jamaica Premiere of “Rise Up” will be held at the Carib Cinema on October 26th in Kingston and will open in theaters islandwide the following day, Wednesday October 27th.

DIANA KING IS BACK AFTER THREE YEARS - ARTISTE PROMISES A NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER

Hasani Walters, Gleaner Writer
World renowned singing sensation and daughter of Jamaica, Diana King, promises a great performance to fans who come out to enjoy a special performance at the November 13 Spend an Evening with Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds charity event to be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.

The Gleaner caught up with King at the the University of the West Indies' Philip Sherlock Centre, where she was rehearsing with her background vocalist for an upcoming performance in Japan in mid-November.

"I'll be doing a special performance filled with all the hits they [fans] love, Shy Guy, Say A Little Prayer, Lies, and all the others. It'll be great," said King.
"I interact with my fans on my Facebook a lot. I ask them what they want me to sing, so I can know what they want to hear," she added.

The international superstar appeared to be very excited about being in Jamaica. That excitement evident in her voice, she said, "It's great to be home! It's been almost three years since I've been here. I'm very excited. I mean, I haven't been here for so long!" great experiences
King spoke of her great experiences in Jamaica. This time around, she expects no different.

"It's always been great when I come here to perform, but I'm really looking forward to the jazz and blues festival coming up. I get to use my own band and all. The last time I performed in Jamaica was probably back in the '90s at Reggae Sumfest," said King.

Her new CD, Warrior Girl, which she wrote and produced, has already been released in Japan and, according to King, is doing quite well.
"The CD is doing really good over there. Four different songs from it is on the charts over there. I'm very proud of the fact that I did all the production on the album as well," she said.
The CD was released on her newly formed record label, Think Like A Girl Music.
The label, she said, was named after the single and album of the same name because, "I do think like a girl. Most of my songs are about being in a relationship, love and tenderness.
"I chose think like a girl because I wanted to focus on female artistes. The pressure they face is not equal to that faced by men. In many things, it's like that," she said.
She said, however, that she doesn't have an artiste she wants to sign to the label in mind, but she mentioned a few local artistes she admired.
"I like Cherine, Alaine, Etana and definitely Tanya Stephens. I want to do a song with Tanya. She wicked! Is like her lyrics can't done. I like Etana's consciousness and Tessanne [Chin], she was the last artiste that made me say wow when she came with the reggae mixed with the rock," said King.

King will be performing alongside Babyface, No-Maddz and the Silver Birds Steel Orchestra at the concert which is one of the activities scheduled to take place from November 8 to 14 during The United Way of Jamaica week.

EASY STAR ALL STARS- DUBBER SIDE OF THE MOON
DUBBER SIDE OF THE MOON features bass-heavy remixes of the complete Dub Side of the Moon album by Groove Corporation, Mad Professor, 10 Ft Ganja Plant, Adrian Sherwood, Dubmatix, Scientist and many more. The project grew out of the extensive worldwide touring schedule of the Easy Star All-Stars, as they both evolved the original arrangements of their most celebrated cover album and were exposed to new and developing styles of modern reggae, like dubstep. Special Performance at Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival

Fresh from headlining performances at Reggae On The Rocks in Colorado, Festival International De Rhythmes Du Monde in Quebec, Rock al Parque in Colombia, plus two special fundraising events at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in New York, GRAMMY-nominated Ky-Mani Marley has unveiled recording news and announced several personal appearances.

Ky-Mani is currently recording songs for his next album Evolution of a Revolution at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica. This marks the first time that Ky-Mani has worked at the world-renowned studios founded by his father in 1965

“Recording at Tuff Gong is very meaningful to me because this is where it all started. My father built this studio not only to accommodate his children but also the less fortunate in the community. I felt at this point in my career it’s a necessary move to make and I’m happy I’ve been able to accomplish that. Now the journey continues,” said Ky-Mani. Known for his unique style of rock/soul/hip-hop infused reggae sound that transcends cultural lines, Evolution of a Revolution is expected to continue the musical exploration and features collaborations with artists from different musical genres. “This album will continue to highlight my various influences and will be a blend of genres that will touch the inner-soul of each listener,” Ky-Mani stated.

In another first, Ky-Mani has also joined forces with Andrew Tosh for a very special collaboration. The offspring of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh are recording together on “Lessons In My Life,” the lead single off Andrew’s acoustic tribute album to his father, titled Legacy. The two second-generation singers take turns on lead vocals on the updated interpretation of this timeless anthem. The song is especially prophetic as it was released on the album No Nuclear War only weeks before Peter’s untimely death. Fans should look for more collaboration between the two in the near future.

Ky-Mani is also featured on reggae singer Protoje’s latest single, “Rasta Love.” Produced by Donovan “Don Corleone” Bennett, “Rasta Love” is a powerful, conscious dancehall-meets-lover’s rock combination and will be included on Protoje’s upcoming album The 7 Year Itch.

Staying true to his humanitarian vision, Ky-Mani will lend his talents to the Basia Sports Foundation as they host the first annual Beat Breast Cancer Music Festival in Trinidad and Tobago on October 31. The foundation is a part of an organization that produces Basia and Basia Sports magazines as well as the popular Caribbean talk show, “The Basia Show” hosted by breast cancer survivor, Alicia Powell. The objective of the event is to change the thinking and approach to breast cancer for Caribbean people, and to help create awareness that the disease is beatable and curable. To be televised throughout the English speaking Caribbean, the event will raise funds for women for CT Pet Scans and reconstructive surgeries, because often times women are not diagnosed or treated accurately post detection and treatment. www.basiamagazine.com.

Finally, Ky-Mani also continues his tour promoting his memoir Dear Dad, released by Farrah Gray Publishing on February 6, 2010, what would have been his father Bob Marley’s 65th birthday.
