REVELATIONS
|
|
|
For over 40 years, Grammy® Award winning reggae Icon Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s name has become synonymous with experimentation and innovation both as a legendary producer and an influential performer. A towering figure, Lee “Scratch” Perry shaped the dub sound and made reggae music a powerful part of pop culture.
Recorded at Perry’s mountain-top studio in Switzerland and various studio locations in England, Florida and New York City and produced by long-time collaborator Steve Marshall AKA John Saxon for State of Emergency, Ltd., Lee “Scratch” Perry’s new album is entitled REVELATION. Taking a hands-on approach, Perry not only fleshed out and developed the powerful lyrical content on the album, but also contributed his unmistakable hallmark of mastery of sound including synth programming.
Now in stores on the MEGAWAVE label, REVELATION presents the signature surrealistic and eccentric rhythmic genius of The Mighty Upsetter, featuring 13 of his best new songs in years with Marshall, Duncan & Green, Tim Hill, Keith Richards, George Clinton, Dr Sleepy, Alec Hay, elodieO, Abi Browning, and David Stewart Jones. Highlights include rock n’ roll legend Keith Richards on “Books of Moses” and a Lee “Scratch” Perry duet with George Clinton on “Scary Politicians”.

EMERGING REGGAE ARTIST HIGHER PURSE EMBARKS ON FLORIDA TOUR
|
|
|
After years of tackling the underground reggae scene in Jamaica, Higher Purse is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves. In a business where technology is used to hide ability, or lack thereof, and one can easily buy lyrics from others, it is refreshing to see a true artist that writes and sings his own songs.
Higher Purse has been writing and recording music since 2003. He has written for several well-established artists one of which is the great Natty King. In addition to being a songwriter, Higher Purse has also been voicing and releasing singles over the years. Due to his incredible song writing skills and unique voice he began to get noticed by reggae lovers all over.
That recognition has now translated into his first North American tour, which kicks off in the state of Florida this Wednesday, November 3rd. The tour is a pre-cursor to the release of the “old school riddim” compilation CD that is produced by Higher Purse for his label, Russcuttaz Music. The “old school riddim” compilation will be available online and in stores by the end of the year.

Nana Rita, an endearment she acquired when she was enstooled in Ghana, will accept the award on Friday, November 12, during the gala dinner to be held at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC. The widow of reggae icon Robert 'Bob' Nesta Marley and an artist in her own right, Nana Rita has an extensive career of advocacy and talent that spans the globe.
"Nana Rita was a perfect recipient for our Marcus Garvey award. CHEF MAYRA - POOR TURKEY
|
|
|
Every year at Thanksgiving, the president of the United States pardons two turkeys, sparing them from a grisly slaughterhouse death. Unfortunately, these turkeys have, since 2005, been sent to live as attractions at Disney theme parks, where many of them have died within one year. Because commercially-raised turkeys have been selectively bred for decades to grow extremely large and fast, they are prone to serious health issues and require specialized care. At Farm Sanctuary, we are well-equipped to provide the level of care necessary to keep these birds healthy, happy and comfortable for years.
Of course, we at Farm Sanctuary also think that all turkeys should be pardoned, and since 1986, our Adopt-A-Turkey Project has saved the lives of countless turkeys and encouraged millions of people to participate in a new compassionate Thanksgiving tradition by adopting a turkey instead of eating one.
President Barack Obama could join us in creating a compassionate holiday tradition by sending the pardoned turkeys to Farm Sanctuary, where they can lead a more natural life and become ambassadors for their exploited species.
By sending these birds to Farm Sanctuary’s shelter in Watkins Glen, New York, President Obama will send a clear message that farm animals deserve to be treated with kindness and dignity.
Please sign our petition today, and help give this year’s pardoned turkeys the true sanctuary they deserve.
We must submit our petition by November 15 to be heard in time, so please sign now and ask all your friends, family and co-workers to do the same!

EARTHDANCE 2011 DATES ANNOUNCED - NEW LOCATION!
|
|
|
|
Earthdance Northern California Thank you for an amazing year... 2011 dates announced - Sept 23rd, 24th, 25th Earthdance (www.earthdancelive.com) info@earthdancelive.com
Dear Earthdancers,
Our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make our "grand farewell" our best Earthdance ever. We are totally excited to take the energy of Earthdance to a new level in 2011 and we have included a letter to our community below to share our vision of what is in store.
Wishing you all the best for the Autumn season..!!
Dear Earthdancers,
As you all know we are moving Earthdance to a new location, as we have outgrown our beloved "Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville". Our new home will be at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, within easy reach to the whole Bay Area and cities beyond.
We know many people are concerned by the change, as they feel we will lose the spirit of Earthdance by moving to a more urban area. It is true that we will lose the majestic ambiance of a woodland country setting, but we are totally excited by what this new venue has to offer. The new facility will allow us room to grow and will provide large indoor and outdoor venues, plenty of toilets, showers, easy parking and NO DUST. Most of all, the move will also allow us to take the Earthdance mission to a new level by taking our message of global peace and sustainability to a wider audience closer to the city.
The new site has three indoor buildings which will offer entertainment all day and late into the night. The first larger indoor venue has a 3000 capacity and will be transformed into a state of the art electronica temple with art installations, video walls, international DJ's and more. The second indoor venue, also 3000 capacity, has an acoustically treated ceiling and will offer live music, including late night themes such as "New Orleans Jam" sessions, world fusion nights and more. The smaller 500 capacity venue has a carpeted floor where we will host the sacred music stage, home to late night Kirtan and devotional chanting, sacred world music, workshops and more. This venue will also provide all day yoga classes featuring well known international and Bay Area yoga teachers. The main arena is an outdoor grass field with bleachers along the back that will hold about 5000 people and will host our main stage. Outside this venue is a shaded central courtyard where we will present our usual array of fine food vendors while people enjoy acoustic music on a central stage.
All throughout the fairgrounds there are shady lawn areas, wide avenues, and pleasant nooks and cranny's which we will fill with amazing art and devotional altars. Unlike many other fairgrounds where camping is difficult or limited, our new venue will also provide large areas of open campground, including tree lined areas, where people can enjoy the full weekend camping festival experience. We also offer over 100 RV sites, each with power and water, plus a large motel within walking distance.
Overall, we are excited to bring Earthdance closer to the Bay Area while maintaining our ambiance from The Black Oak Ranch. Yes, it is true that we will be leaving behind some incredible memories and a wonderful site, but we will be taking the creative spirit and intention that has created Earthdance Northern California to our new location. We hope you will join us as we take Earthdance to the next level. We promise not to let you down.!!
Check out more great photos from this year on our Facebook page
Wishing you all the best, Chris Deckker, Bob Barsotti, Producers of Earthdance Northern California and the Earthdance team

APPEAL FROM TAJ WEEKES FOR EMERGENCY HURRICANE TOMAS DISASTER RELIEF FOR ST. LUCIA
|
|
|
St. Lucia's Prime Minister Stephenson King declared a state of emergency yesterday, appealing for international help for St. Lucia's worst national disaster in recent history. Lives have been lost and many more are still missing.
The southern town of Soufriere and its neighbor Fond St. Jacques, near the landmark Pitons, have been hit the worst by the storm and many say the towns resemble a war zone. All roads to the area have been washed out and they are cut off from aid, supplies, electricity and water.
Other areas have experienced massive land and mudslides, floods, sinkholes, roads and bridges washed away. The island's fresh water supplies have been contaminated by mud and other pollutants creating an extremely serious lack of fresh water, which will have to be brought in from other islands and countries. Relief shelters are full and in dire need of supplies.
To all those who are able to share even a little bit with those less fortunate than yourself, please join me in sending down relief supplies to our friends in St. Lucia. Through our last several visits with TOCO, I have had the opportunity to come to know Valerie Albert of HTS, the wonderful youth of ICAN (youth group) in Soufriere and RISE in Castries and their impeccable leaders, Dr. Stephen King and Dr. Jacqueline Bird. We will be working in conjunction with Dr. King, Dr. Bird and Ms. Albert to ensure relief dollars and supplies are put to good use.
Please Send Your Contributions Through PayPal
We are collecting donations, water and non-perishable food items to ship to St. Lucia in barrels next week. The most useful donations are monetary so that necessary items can be purchased as the needs of the displaced St. Lucians are determined. Please be as generous as you can in helping those that are without the basic human needs right now.
With my deepest gratitude and appreciation,
Taj Weekes
They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO) is a 501(c)(3) U.S.-based not-for-profit organization founded by St. Lucian reggae artist Taj Weekes and is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged, at-risk and orphaned children in the Caribbean through sports, health and enrichment programs. IEYE TREASURES ARGENTINA EXPERIENCE
|
|
|
A week after coming home from the South American country of Argentina, where she performed on the Pepsi Music Festival held in the capital, Buenos Aires, on Saturday, October 16, Jamaican reggae singer, Ieye, is still revelling in the one-of-a-kind experience.
“There was just something different in the air. Everything and everybody seemed to be saying ‘welcome’. The language proved not to be a barrier as love and music are the universal language and there was plenty of that. As we stepped off the plane and go through the airport is like a barrage of happiness greeted us,” Ieye said of her Argentina debut.
Among the very pleasant surprises were the persons who turned up at the the parking lot of a radio station where Ieye was doing an interview and waited patiently until it was over, just to get a glimpse of the reggae singer. “Because people heard me on the radio, some of them just turned up to take pictures and get autographs and tell me they love me and I am their queen,” Ieye said, adding that Argentina is “really a reggae-loving land”.
During that on-air interview session she performed ‘Mama’s Hand’ and ‘Johnny’. Both songs are from her debut ‘Fevergrass’ album, due next year on Shang Records.
Another treasured moment for Ieye came at the festival, where she performed for 20 minutes in front of a whopping crowd of about 55,000 people -- easily the largest crowd to converge on the venue during the three nights of the Pepsi Music Festival,.
“The show,” she said, her voice brimming with excitement, “was amazing”. “It was as if a higher power took control and it was a totally different Ieye. I was transformed on the stage,” she said. “I was happy with what I was doing and the people were happy with what I had to offer,” Ieye said. Smiling with satisfaction, she added, “My performance was greatly received and I think I left a lasting impact on Argentina”.
Then there was a third surprise when, along with reggae superstar Alborosie, she attended the launch of Rototom in Argentina. Ieye says that with the audience and the press’ reaction “it was like a show. Persons were in line to give us presents and do photographs. Imagine, people line up to give you something”. “I am speechless... It was like crazy, crazy fun and overwhelming joy,” Ieye said, adding that she wants to go back to Argentina very soon. “I feel like Argentina is officially Ieye’s own now," she declared.

DUBBER SIDE OF THE MOON features bass-heavy remixes of the complete Dub Side of the Moon album by Groove Corporation, Mad Professor, 10 Ft Ganja Plant, Adrian Sherwood, Dubmatix, Scientist and many more. The project grew out of the extensive worldwide touring schedule of the Easy Star All-Stars, as they both evolved the original arrangements of their most celebrated cover album and were exposed to new and developing styles of modern reggae, like dubstep.
