Bele Chere 5K (July 24)
A crowd of almost 1,400 runners met at McCormick Field in Asheville for the 31st Bele Chere 5K Presented by Southeastern Sports Medicine and hosted by the Asheville Track Club. This was the second largest field in race history and featured a common start/finish line on McCormick Place that created an exciting and safe venue for both racers and spectators. Five lucky runners came away with Asics shoes based on random finishes throughout the race.
Lake Logan Multi Sport Festival (August 7-8)
The Lake Logan International Triathlon celebrated its five-year anniversary with the best weather in the race’s history and record performances on both the men’s and women’s sides. Andrew Starykowicz of Long Grove, IL and Missy Kuck of Dayton, OH both shattered course records on way to their winning performances.
At the Lake Logan Sprint Triathlon, Presented by Haywood Regional Health & Ftiness Center, held on Sunday, Ashley Naelon of Davidson, NC and Chris Lamperski of Charlotte bested their competition by over two minutes each in winning the overall crowns.
The Lake Logan Aquathlon was also held on Sunday with Justin and Ashley Karpinos of Nashville, TN winning the men’s and women’s divisions.
Glory Hound Events thanks the Lake Logan Episcopal Center and Haywood County for being such gracious hosts of this event.
Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon & 5K
The largest field of runners in Asheville history turned out for the 11th running of the Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon & 5K, presented by Mission Sports Medicine. Over 1,500 half marathon and 900 5K runners registered for this event, which is fast becoming one of the premier road races in the Southeast. Part of the Running Journal Grand Prix, the races drew runners from twenty-nine U.S. states to Asheville to run on courses recognized for both the hills and beauty of the city.
Katie Gibson of Asheville and Josh Gibson of Valdese brought a local flavor to the winners circle by winning the half marathon.
Ricky Babaoff of Asheville and Karen Canup of Campobello, SC were the winners of the 5K.
All of the runners were greeted with local award-wining beer from Highland Brewing Company and food from Dunkin Donuts along the Diamond Brand Outdoors Race Alley.
