BOB MARLEY FESTIVAL TRIBUTE PLANNED

Legendary reggae artist Bob Marley will be paid tribute to by a whole host of global artists at this year's One Love Peace Festival.

Bob Marley will be paid tribute to at this year's One Love Peace Festival.

Ky-Mani Marley - the son of the legendary reggae artist - will be joined by artists including Busta Rhymes, Shaggy and Sean Paul to mark 30 years since the anniversary of the singer's untimely death in 1981 at the age of just 36.

The all-day event, which is to be held at London's Wembley Arena on July 31, will "pay homage" to the musical legacy of the 'No Woman, No Cry' hitmaker with a whole host of Bob Marley-themed sets.

Ky-Mani said: "I feel blessed to be part of The One Love Peace Festival. It is with great pride that I will pay homage to my father, Bob Marley, with some of his best-loved songs. The festival's message of peace is a noble cause that I hold very dear to my heart and one that my father would have applauded.

"It is in giving truthfully of oneself, selflessly to benefit others that the soul finds satisfaction and great delight. London I'm coming to give you all that I've got with my music...past to present...it is my Destiny.

"The festival will be unforgettable to all of us who are present... Mystical proportions. 30 years after my father's passing and his legacy still lives on. One Love."

Meanwhile, 'Touch It' rapper Busta Rhymes admitted he is "dying" to return to the UK to perform for the first time in three years.

He explained: "I can't wait to get back to the UK! It's been three years since I last performed here so I'm dying to tear the roof off Wembley Arena at The One Love Peace Festival with some old school joints and brand new bangers.

"When I'm done, you're gonna remember it for a long time to come. Get ready because it's about to go down!"

And according to promoter Al Gilkes the event also generates hundreds of jobs during its staging in Barbados annually.

Speaking after the official launch of the five-day festival at the Mount Gay Visitor Centre, Spring Garden, St Michael, Gilkes, a director of FAS event organizers, said yesterday that his company employed as many as 200 people at a single event like Reggae On The Hill.

In relation to the festival as a magnet for the increasing tourism arrivals, Gilkes said he was heartened by the presence of personnel from the tourism sector headed by Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy.

“They are now fully with us”, Gilkes said.

Gilkes also said that it was FAS’ intention to have a successful event this year. He said he was not going to “dilute” the festival  inspite of arguments by some to hold back in light of the “economic downturn internationally”.

JUNIOR REID AND THE ONE BLOOD BAND – TOURING NORTH AMERICA - MAY / JUNE 2011

The former lead singer of Black Uhuru, with chart topping hits including the monster hits One Blood and This is Why I’m Hot (remix), Junior “One Blood” Reid is a worldwide Reggae/Dancehall Legend, universally loved and respected by fellow artists and fans.

Reid has a new album – Living Legend – which has been completed and is soon to be released. Living Legend features appearances by hot current hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayn, Cool and Dre and Swiss Beat, and the reggae artists Capleton and Andrew and Wada Blood, Reid’s sons.

In 1989, Reid left Black Uhuru and released the One Blood album, whose title track became a worldwide anthem. Reid’s longevity has a lot to do with the timelessness of the song One Blood. This song’s universal message is similar that of Bob Marley’s One Love. The One Blood remix with Game crossed over to hip-hop and urban audiences, leading to a string of hip-hop/ reggae collaborations with the likes of Poor Righteous Teachers, Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang Clan, Guru’s Jazzmataz, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Cool and Dre and Snoop Dogg.

Reid has a current video release with Junior Reid and Casidy called I’m so Crazy. His collaboration track Ancient Love on Naz and Junior Gong’s latest CD release has sold phenomenally. Other of his current successful singles include State of Emergency, Love your Brother, These Streets Belongs to Me and I just Love Jamaican Chocolate. Reid has one of the hottest nightclubs in Kingston Jamaica called Junior Reid’s Nightclub, The View and the Spot.

Reid’s video release, The Real O.G. (Jordan Tower Films), was released online on www.worldstarhiphop.com in October 2009 and in the first week he received over eight million views. The Real O.G. song itself was produced by Blackout Movements and JR Records.

LEGENDARY VOCALISTS THE CABLES TO PERFORM AT SNWMF 2011

First Performance in California or at a Major U.S. Reggae Festival

The Cables were formed in the early '60s when Jamaica was starting to garner international recognition for it's unique style of music known as Ska.  Founded by lead vocalist Keble Drummond, the group included the harmonies of tenor Vince Stoddart and baritone Elbert “Stewie” Stewart.  Their initial release "You Lied" was recorded for Pottinger's High Note record label, but it was one recording session at Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One studio that would propel The Cables to stardom.

At the time, the music of Jamaica was heavily dominated by vocal groups.  The Heptones' recordings for Studio One were at the forefront of this movement which received additional support from groups like The Techniques and The Clarandonians.  Keble had been friends with Heptones' singers Earl Morgan and Barry Llewellyn as they lived near each other in Ghost Town and would often rehearse together.  Through this association, Keble was eventually able to convince Jackie Mittoo to give them a recording session at Studio One.

It was late '67/early '68 when The Cables first set foot in Studio One to record.  That one-day session featured Jackie Mittoo on keyboards, Leroy Sibbles on Bass, Fil Callender (of 'The In Crowd') on drums and Roland Alphonso on saxophone.  With Sylvan Morris at the controls, The Cables laid down just two selections: "Baby Why" and "What Kind of World."  The success of those two recordings compelled Downbeat to have The Cables to return to record what eventually became about fourteen songs for Studio One.  Ten of those selections would ultimately be gathered together and released as the Studio One album "What Kind of World."  In 1991, this album was rereleased in the United States by Heartbeat Records.

The Cables left Coxsone's Studio One in 1970 to record for such notable JA producers as Harry J and Bunny 'Striker' Lee.  Their Bunny Lee recordings include the song "Come On" which was recorded with Slim Smith prior to his untimely death in 1973.  In 1971, Elbert “Stewie” Stewart emigrated to the United States and was replaced by the tenor voice of Owen “Bobby” Dockery.  The Harry J recordings made their way onto the 1977 release by Keble Drummond and The Cables "Baby Why."  Other notable recordings from The Cables during this era included two songs that were included in Jamaica's Festival Song Writing Contest: "Feel Alright" which placed fourth in 1971 and "Jamaica" which came in second in 1977.

In 1979, Keble relocated to the United States, but continued demand for The Cables resulted in their reuniting for several Jamaican festivals that draw an international following including Reggae Sunsplash (in 1994) and Heineken Startime.

Today, The Cables are a quartet, with Owen “Bobby” Dockery joining the original members.  Now based in the United States, the group is in the studio working on a soon to be released CD along with "The Cables Collection", comprised of a wider perspective of their memorable songs in addition to some new recordings.

Despite their meteoric rise, The Cables have never performed on the West Coast, nor have they participated in a major reggae festival in the United States.  The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is certain that their appearance at this year's festival will be a "Happy Time" for both them and all in attendance to witness the legendary sounds of The Cables.   06-20

Music is life and Reggae music, in particular, brings positivity and good vibes to people worldwide. It speaks all languages and crosses all borders.  In order to bridge that gap between the musicians and the audience of reggae it takes an mc/host that knows the crowd as well as a good dj to keep it flowing. There is an MC/host & DJ that can keep it all in synch he is LANCE-O.

POP/R&B/REGGAE/DANCEHALL SENSATION RAYVON RELEASES HIS SELF TITLED ALBUM "RAYVON"

MARCH 10, 2011

Englewood, NJ (PRWEB)
Most artists dream of a career that spans over a decade boasting international accolades, chart-topping hits, and underground classics; Barbadian-born/ Brooklyn-raised Rayvon has garnered this success and more while affectionately being dubbed the ambassador of hip-hop reggae. Having shared the stage with monolithic icons The Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson his pop-infused Caribbean flavor has paved the way for the next generation of Barbadian recording artists such as Rihanna, Shontelle, and Jaicko. Rayvons eponymous third album. Rayvon features track work from heavyweights such as Jah Snowcone (Sean PaulVybz Kartel) as well as the production prowess of Danny Champagne, Ali Cat, and Carl Beaver Henderson. The first single Back it Up is a hard-edged pulsating groove that will have guys jumping and ladies gyrating.

Rayvon is probably best known for his work with multi-platinum selling vocalist Shaggy.  The chemistry was amazing. Rayvon was also featured covering The Melodians' classic Rivers of Babylon on the B-side of Shaggys 1993 hit Oh Carolina.

Rayvons career trajectory accelerated in 1995 when he recorded the island-tinged duet In The Summertime from Shaggys platinum, Grammy award-winning album Boombastic. The song was a cover of Mungo Jerrys 1970 hit and following in its original success Shaggys version with the help of Rayvon reached No. 3 on Billboards Hot 100 and No. 5 in the UK while also featured in various major motion pictures and television series.

Alrica : : Many Nights
Alrica’s vocal style is a unique blend of rich soul and reggae fused with jazz and hip hop. Onstage, she is a truly breathtaking performer. Her debut CD, an EP entitled This Time Round generated excitement from fans and music connoisseurs worldwide.  Audiences were impressed with her ability to transition smoothly from a soulful sound to more dance floor ready tracks. In an interview with Liberating Style Magazine, Alrica stated, “I feel comfortable in both lanes, but I prefer singing the slower songs that really allow me to experiment lyrically and touch a certain place emotionally.”

Alrica is finally ready to fill in the gaps and share the stories that her fans had not been privy to in her debut release. Her sophomore release, This TimeRound-The Untold Stories includes all of the best tracks from her debutalbum as well as seven new songs. Broken hearts, unrequited love, infidelity and economic suffering, only begin to scratch the surface of the subject matter Alrica shares with her audience. Music critics who have had the opportunity to preview the album are particularly impressed with the strong emotional connection Alrica continually exudes in her delivery.

Her first release from the upcoming album, Many Nights, is a song in which Alrica relates a heart wrenching story of waiting for an unfaithful spouse to come home.  Many will find this song almost too easy to relate to.
PASHON MINOTT : :
Born Tamar Minott in Kingston, Jamaica, Pashon Minott’s exposure to the music world began at a tender age in the stimulating atmosphere of her father’s fame and high profile. Her father, the legendary Sugar Minott, owned and operated a recording studio, and also owned a prominent sound system called Youthman Promotion. Growing up in this environment gave Pashon the opportunity to get to know and witness the spawning ground of artists such as Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, Tenor Saw and Garnett Silk. Early exposure to the music business and the entertainment world through her father helped to nurture and build her knowledge and skills as an artist. Pashon was truly born in the business.

At age eight, she recorded her first single, Reggae the Beat with her brothers and younger sister. For years, Pashon toured the world with her father opening the shows and providing harmony vocals. These opportunities and the guidance of her father have given her the knowledge to make and perform quality reggae music with universal appeal. No stranger to the stage, Pashon has performed on major shows in Jamaica, including Sting, Reggae Sumfest, Rebel Salute, East Fest and Spectrum. Internationally, she has thrilled crowds at events like the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and Sonoma Green Music Festival in California, Reggae X-Plosion in Japan, and many more throughout the world. Pashon is known for her high energy performances that never fail to impress audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Pashon Minott’s music is one of empowerment, truth, and struggle. Her first hit was the dancehall tune Real Fire Woman on the Chrome riddim, the video for which received significant airplay in Jamaica and abroad. A linkup with award-winning dancehall producer Jah Snow Cone brought her considerable success in 2005, when she recorded the song Grudgeful on his Applause Riddim. This song catered to more of a mainstream market, and was another great hit. As her radio spins increased, so did her recognition. This led to another video being produced shortly thereafter. An album is currently in the works slated for release in 2011. Some of her newest songs to look out for include Hush Baby Mother on the Snowflake Riddim (produced by Jah Snow Cone), Mek It Inna Life & No Time to Waste produced by Irie Sounds International. Mek It Inna Life reached #6 on the Guam reggae charts as a pre-release.

Fans of reggae music know that Sugar Minott is truly one of the greatest the genre has ever seen. One of the qualities he was well known was promoting timeless reggae music and always encouraging the youth. Having learned so much from her father, there is no one more qualified to carry on his amazing legacy than his own daughter – Pashon Minott.

Toots & the Maytals’ Bernie Pitters on keyboards
Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers’ Earl “Chinna” Smith on guitar
Original Halfway Tree guitarist Tomaz “Moose” Jardim on guitar
Bob Marley & the Wailers’ Alvin “Seeco” Patterson on percussion
Roots Radics’ trombonist Everald Gayle on trombone

Ukeladies’ Selah Koile and Katharine Langille on backing vocals

“…nothing less than stunning.” - Exclaim! Magazine

CORNERSTONES OF FOUNDATION ROOTS BRING BACK REAL REGGAE MUSIC

Following the success of his JUNO-nominated collaboration with members of The Wailers, Andru Branch received critical acclaim with the release of “Bring Back Real Reggae Music” from his sophomore album The Only Constant in 2008. Branch was joined by legendary Studio One bass player Brian Atkinson in 2002 to form the illustrious Halfway Tree reggae band.  The group has had three number one hits on CBC’s Galaxie Radio, including 2009’s international hit single “My Jamaican Weed”, and “Best Friend Girl” off the brand new album Step Into The Light.

“This is indeed real reggae music.” – Tom Orr, World Music Central

This is your opportunity to see and hear reggae’s original masters perform live!  Reminiscent of the golden era of reggae music, their sound is gloriously hypnotic and their message is positively uplifting.  Currently booking dates for the 2011 “Step Into The Light” tour.

EMBRACE THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IN WHOLENESS
"When you are able to contain both the light and dark together, that is a very enlightening state. It means that you no longer have to choose one experience over another. You do not have to choose love OR hate, blame OR forgiveness, sadness OR joy, anger OR openheartedness. You are no longer polarized; no particular feeling boxes you in and keeps you from the light of true self. You then have access to the full range of human experiences you came into this life to embrace."
-- Martia Nelson
