BRITAIN'S POLICE WATCHDOG CONFIRMS STAB WOUND TO HEART KILLED REGGAE SINGER SMILEY CULTURE
LONDON — The British police watchdog says reggae star Smiley Culture died from a single stab wound to his heart while police officers were executing a search warrant at his home earlier this week.

British media earlier had reported that the stab wound was self-inflicted.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission says an investigation is ongoing into the death of the artist — whose real name was David Emmanuel.
The watchdog said Thursday that facts established so far show that four officers arrived at Emmanuel’s home at around 7 a.m. on March 15 and an ambulance was called to the scene at around 8:30 a.m.
Emmanuel, 48-years old, shot to fame in the 1980s with hits such as “Cockney Translation” and “Police Officer.”

REGGAE BRAND LANDS UK DRINKS DISTRIBUTION
JAMAICAN-born chef and musician Levi Roots secured a deal to expand his Reggae Reggae empire through a lucrative UK licensing arrangement for his soft drinks. Nichols, the maker of Vimto, has licensed the brand for the UK market.
"We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to license the Levi Roots (Reggae Reggae) brand exclusively in the UK soft drinks category," stated John Nichols non-executive Chairman of Nichols, a UK-based drink manufacturer in remarks which accompanied the financials. Nichols posted a 23 per cent rise in year-end profits to £15.1 million. The deal would likely grow the company's profit due to the fast-paced growth of the world-themed drink market. The company also announced its own plans to launch a range of Caribbean-themed soft drinks.
"In April 2011, we will launch a range of branded Caribbean soft drinks aimed at the 'world food cuisine' category -- which is one of the fastest growing sectors in retail," stated Nichols.
Nichols' brand portfolio includes Vimto, sold in over 65 countries and Sunkist & Panda, which are sold in the UK. The Group has a leading market position in both the "Stills" and "Carbonated" drinks categories and also in the soft drinks on dispense market, where its brands include Cabana, Ben Shaws & Dayla.

REGGAE ARTIST ALLEY CAT RELEASES HIS NEW ALBUM “DANCEHALL KNOWLEDGE Vol. 2” & CELEBRATES WITH A SOUTH FLORIDA ALBUM RELEASE PARTY
Alley Cat ©2011 Meedia Moogulz Photography
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (March 14, 2011) – Imperial Productions is proud to present the brand new release of “Dancehall Knowledge Vol. 2” from reggae artist Alley Cat. Tuesday, March 22 marks the day that the music industry will be re-introduced to the sounds of an artist that has no limit. South Florida has been chosen to be the place of celebration for the release with a star-studded launch party on April 16, 2011 inside Ft. Lauderdale’s exquisite Caribbean venue BLU LAGOON’S. ( 7529 West Oakland Park Blvd Lauderhill, FL 33319)

The prolific and knowledgeable message that Alley Cat portrays on this album is sure to open up the minds of the masses, and would make anyone seriously think about life and themselves. Alley Cat produced and wrote the entire album under his Imperial Productions label, and maintained his edgy lyrics and style. But found a way to fuse various types of elements and created an album that surpassed the title of just another Dancehall album. From beginning to end “Dancehall Knowledge” transitions from One Drop Reggae, to Pop music, then to R&B music, and back to Dancehall music. The album is jammed pack with educational and uplifting topics that are relevant in today’s world. Track such as “The Big Picture” highlights the individuals that will deliberately hold you back from progressing in life, and Alley Cat also talks about how to avoid them. “We Won’t Forget You” is a song that makes you happy and sad at the same time, it commemorates the friends & family that has passed away and encourages people to celebrate their loved one’s life. And the ladies won’t have to look too far to find the Alley Cat they’ve grown to love, “Bruck Out” is the ultimate song for a woman with high self-esteem and she knows she is the best at what she does. Carribbean News Weekly said, “Alley Cat has a potential smash hit on his new album with the featured single “Bruck Out.” His most personal song on this record is “Nevaeh,” which reflects the love that Alley Cat has for his daughter and wanted to make a song that represented all the daughters around the world. As an artist Alley Cat recognizes the changes that’s taking place in Caribbean music and wants his fans to get what they all been waiting for.
About Alley Cat
Alley Cat is not your average Dancehall artist, nor should he be considered as only a “Dancehall” artists. The one word used to best describe this Producer/ Songwriter/ Artist is, diversity, because he can transition in to an R&B artist, a Roots/Reggae artist, or a Dancehall artist in a split second. and make each beat on his own. He’s best known for some of his earlier work he did in the late 90’s early 2000’s. His journey goes far, but it all began on the by ways and side streets of Kingston. From childhood, Alley Cat would prowl the inner city, familiarizing himself with the lanes and back alleys, thus earning his name. The journey would continue through the classrooms at Kingston College, and the gauntlet of Tivoli Courts’ “Sideline” (a Gong type show) and then through the gates of Penthouse Studio. Alley Cat went on to have several hit singles and has been featured on tracks with some of Reggae’s best artists. As a producer Alley Cat has made beats for artists such as, Movado, Monster Empire, Harry Toddler, Crisintie, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Lutan Fiyah, Mitch, Terry Ganzie , Fiona and Gentleman from Germany. Alley Cat has been on a hiatus for some time, but he’s ready to re-claim his spot, and “Dancehall Knowledge Vol. 2” will make that goal easy to accomplish. Album Information

By Michael Hamersly
If you’re in downtown Miami near Bayfront Park on Saturday and you feel a sudden, inexplicable surge of love, it could well be from the 9 Mile Music Festival. After all, the annual event — put on by Bob Marley’s family — is all about spreading the late reggae icon’s musical message, filled with positive vibrations and goodwill.
The legacy of Marley — who died in 1981 after giving the world some of the greatest reggae songs of all time, including One Love, Waiting In Vain, Three Little Birds, Stir It Up, Buffalo Soldier, Get Up Stand Up, Jamming and No Woman No Cry – has been kept alive by his sons, Stephen, Damian, Julian and Ky-Mani, who each year for almost two decades put on a festival in honor of their father.
“This festival is all about the celebration of reggae music and the world vibe the music of the Marley family brings,” says Stephen Marley on a break in his Miami studio, where he’s working on a new album (you’ll hear a couple of those songs on Saturday, he says). “It’s a positive vibe, a positive flow of energy for people who share the same sentiment.”
Other than the Marley sons, artists on the bill include Slightly Stoopid, Thievery Corporation, Majer Lazer, Kevens, Inner Circle and Fourth Dimension. And of course, there will be plenty of classic Bob Marley tunes in addition to the sons’ solo highlights (“You will hear the songs that you love from Bob, and some of ours that you love,” says Stephen), plus some unexpected performers.
“There are a few surprise guests coming out with us that aren’t advertised,” he says. “But I don’t think I should give away all the surprises, you know what I mean?”

There is an MC/host & DJ that can keep it all in synch he is LANCE-O.
Lance-O has been mcing some of the biggest reggae shows in the Americas since 1987 and djing even longer. His career started in a place where education was the key, at UNC-Wilmington. Now a professional MC, host, dj and promoter Lance-O has established himself as the MC for reggae enthusiasts and caters well to surfers, islanders and Latinos. Growing up in Miami Florida has exposed him to the many cultures of the world.

ZUHG : : FISH TANK
This sweetly reggaelicious track by Sacramento reggae/funk/jazz/rock/pschedelic jam band ZuhG is a meditation on the universal theme of following your dreams. It features infectiously harmonized vocal and sax/guitar lines, crunchy funky rhythm guitar, a cool bass/drum reggae groove, and a refreshing organic feel that gives it an earthy authenticity separating it from the legion of ubiquitous robotic sampled beats often heard elsewhere. It’s pretty hard to not move your feet and sway to the relentless reggae rhythm of this song especially when combined with such positive lyrics as: “Life’s too short to be so serious, life’s too short to work a job--so follow your dreams!” and “I believe in my dreams, when there’s not much you could do but think there’s more, more than some can say”. This is an upbeat, tasty, funky anthem to celebrating life free of the things that drag you down and keeping the dream alive. Groove on!

DJ SUNSHINE "THE FIRST LADY":

DJ Sunshine is undoubtedly “The First Lady” with a phenomenal career spanning over a decade. She is widely revered, and is one of the longest-standing female disc jockeys. DJ Sunshine ignites her audience with her winning trademark smile, her glamorous personality, and her suave sophistication that only a Sunshine girl can pull off. Born a Leo, DJ Sunshine grew up in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and attended St. Andrew High School for Girls. Later she pursued a degree in architecture at Miami Dade Community College. However, when called to listen to the beat of her own drums, and take her chosen path, her passion for music overrode all other career interests. Music has always been her passion, and at a very young age she would enthusiastically rush home to listen to the radio and record the latest tunes on cassette tapes and practice mixing them on the family stereo set. After graduating from Miami Dade Community College, DJ Sunshine returned to Jamaica and pursued her love affair with music. She began playing at house parties and small events at venues. Her hard work and dedication to her music paid off when she was discovered by Marketing consultant Karlene Walters, and while playing at Harry’s bar in Kingston Brian Schmidt, marketing manager of IRIE FM, couldn’t resist introducing her to Karl Young CEO of IRIE who quickly added her to the team. She joined the staff of the hugely popular radio station in October 2001, and since then she has been flexing her musical muscles, entertaining thousands of people both locally and internationally who tune in to catch her popular radio programme “The Jam”, which airs on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2 p.m to 6 p.m. www.iriefm.netDJ Sunshine is a major force on the party circuit and the musical maestro has been entertaining the people throughout the Caribbean and leaving her footprints behind in parts of Europe such as Germany, Denmark and England. Locally she has emceed major events such as Rebel Salute and Follow the Arrow, just to name a few.

SLOW DOWN
"The soul requires duration of time -- rich, thick, deep, velvety time -- and it thrives on rhythm. Soul can’t be hurried or harried .... We may go through many events in the day and experience nothing because the soul has not had the opportunity to feel them from many different points of view."
-- Robert Sardello
