OZOMATLI ADDED TO SNWMF 2011

The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is pleased to announce that Ozomatli have been added to roster of artists confirmed to perform at the 18th annual musical celebration. SNWMF 2011 will be held at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds June 17th through 19th. The fairgrounds is located in the heart of Anderson Valley (Boonville), 30 minutes south west of Ukiah.

In their fifteen years together as a band, celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli have gone from being hometown heroes to being named U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors. Ozomatli has always juggled two key identities. They are the voice of their city and they are citizens of the world.  Their music — a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga— has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around L.A.  This has never been truer for Ozo than it is in 2011.  More than ever before, the band is both of the world and of L.A.

Originally formed to play at a Los Angeles labor protest, Ozomatli spent some of their early days participating in everything from earthquake prep “hip hop ghetto plays” at inner-city elementary schools to community activist events, protests, and city fundraisers. Ozo is also a product of the city’s grassroots political scene. Proudly born as a multi-racial crew in post-uprising 90s Los Angeles, the band has built a formidable reputation over five full-length studio albums and a relentless touring schedule for taking party rocking so seriously that it becomes new school musical activism. Ozomatli has spent 15 years working diligently to spread its message of peace, communication and understanding through music, with a long standing tradition of performing for children all over the world, from the schools of North St. Louis to the orphanages of Southeast Asia. 2011 has the band focused on “oZoKidZ”, a special family friendly set geared towards performing for children and adults alike.

Amazingly, it has been ten years since Ozomatli's outstanding performance at Angel's Camp in 2001. Since that time, the whole world has gotten to know their very danceable beats and we are very excited that Ozomatli will be returning to rock the masses at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival on Sunday, June 19, 2011. Recent additions to this year's SNWMF lineup also include Tribal Seeds, Reggae Angels and The Expanders, with even more artists yet to come.

SOJA W/SPECIAL GUEST J BOOG REGGAE SENSATION COMES TO MONTBLEU CASINO RESORT

LAKE TAHOE, NV – Reggae sensations, SOJA, along with J Boog, will take the stage at the MontBleu Theatre, Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Doors open at 8p, show begins at 9p. Tickets are just $20.00 in advance, or $25.00 at the door and available at all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the MontBleu Box Office, or online at www.ticketmaster.com You can also purchase by phone by calling MontBleu Resort, 775-588-3515.

Jacob Hemphill (lead vocals & guitar) met Bobby Lee (bass) in the first grade in Virginia, shortly after Jacob returned from living in Africa with his family. The two instantly became best friends, and in middle school found a common love for hip hop, rock and reggae music. Throughout middle and high school, they met Ryan Berty (drums), Patrick O’Shea (keyboards) and Kenneth Brownell (percussion). Together they formed SOJA. In the formative years the band gigged locally in the DC area while a couple of the guys finished school. All the while making plans to hit the road after graduation…

In 2005 the band hit the road… and they hit the road hard. Often dubbed “road warriors”, SOJA has brought their unique sound and stage show to nearly every city in North America, as well as many cities throughout Europe, South America, the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean. While touring in Puerto Rico the band linked up with sax player Hellman Escorcia & trumpet player Rafael Rodriguez.  These two exceptional musicians earned their position as SOJA’s mainstay horn section by helping further develop the band’s eclectic sound.

With no signs of slowing down - SOJA is planning a world tour for 2011/2012 in support of their upcoming album release. It’s all about the message in the music for this band. “People think we write music about the earth for the earth’s sake, but its not really like that.  If we harm the earth, it will reject us.  For all we know, its happened one hundred times before. This place gets too hot, that’s it.  Reset button. That’s why I sing what I sing - to pull us all in the same direction, the same future. Without that, were finished (Jacob Hemphill).”

There is no doubt about it. This band is on the forefront of a Revolution with hopes to bring about positive change: environmentally, politically and socially. “Maybe we need to WANT to fix it. Maybe stop talking, maybe start listening. Maybe we need to look at this world less like a square and more like a circle. Maybe just maybe God’s not unfair, maybe we’re all his kids and he’s up there.  Maybe he loves us for all our races, maybe he hates us when we’re all so racist.  Maybe he sees us, when we dont care, that its heaven right here, but its hell over there. Then maybe the meek will inherit this earth, cause it was written before… so…” Everything Changes - SOJA.

On tour with SOJA is J Boog (Born Jerry Afemata) is a singer born in Long Beach and raised in Compton, CA. Growing up in a large family, he was always surrounded by a lot of people and music. J's father is the chief of the family village in Aloa, Samoa. Boog was raised with a strong sense of that tradition and culture and he proudly carries it with him today and always. J met his favorite artist, George “Fiji” Veikoso in 2005 and began to work with him on music. . In 2006, J moved to Hawaii to continue developing his craft. J Boog released his debut album 'Hear Me Roar' in 2007. In 2008 J Boog joined a Wash House Music Inc, based in Hawaii and San Francisco.

Tickets are just $20 in advance, or $25 at the door, and available at all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the MontBleu Box Office, or online at www.ticketmaster.com You can also purchase by phone by calling MontBleu Resort, 775-588-3515.

GHANA -WORLD REGGAE ICON CALLS ON TOURISM MINISTER
The Tourism Minister, Hon. Akua Sena Dansua has praised the Ghanaian international reggae icon, Rocky Dawuni for his immense contribution, through the platform of reggae music, at promoting Ghana in the international community.

She also discussed possible areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the reggae star as well as his possible appointment as Goodwill Ambassador for Tourism in Ghana.

This was when Rocky Dawuni paid a courtesy call on the Minister in her office at her invitation.

Rocky Dawuni used the opportunity to brief the Minister on his new album “Hymns for the Rebel Soul”. He said the album was recently nominated for a prestigious NAACP Image Award in the United States for “Outstanding World Music Album” alongside luminaries Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Angelique Kidjo and Michael Franti. He also informed the Minister that “Hymns” has also been nominated by the International Reggae and World Music Awards for “Best Music Album” and that Rocky himself is nominated for “Best African Artist.” The award event is to be held in Trinidad and Tobago on May 28, 2011.

The reggae Star indicated his preparedness to project and market the country’s numerous tourism potentials on the large international platform. He said his global tours have enabled him to learn more about how other countries were branding and marketing themselves through tourism. He suggested that Ghana uses its great assets, including soccer excellence, friendly people, and stable governance and economic environment to attract tourists and investors into the country.

Rocky Dawuni said if appointed as Tourism Cultural Ambassador, he would use his many networks worldwide to promote Ghana’s tourism industry, among others.

GUILFEST ANNOUNCE N-DUBZ AND ZIGGY MARLEY
Urban-lite trio N-Dubz, and reggae icon Ziggy Marley are the latest acts to be announced for this summer's GuilFest, the family friendly festival which takes place at Stoke Park, Guilford in Surrey.
Back by popular demand, after providing one of the highlights of last year's festival, are N-Dubz. Dappy, Tulisa, and Fazer will return to the main stage on Saturday evening to deliver festival goers at this year's GuilFest with another fantastic show. They've sold over 1.2 million albums, had in excess of 100 million views on YouTube, won 3 MOBO Awards, and lay claim to being one of the most successful urban acts ever to emerge from the UK.
The eldest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley makes his debut appearance at GuilFest on the Main Stage on Sunday 17th July. Ziggy began his musical career in 1979 as the frontman of Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers, releasing eleven albums and earning three Grammy awards. Beginning his solo career in 2003 with 'Dragonfly', Ziggy won his fourth Grammy for Best Reggae Album, after releasing the critically acclaimed 'Love is My Religion' in 2006. His 2009 album 'Family Time' saw Ziggy notch up his fifth Grammy for Best Musical Album for Children and featured collaborative work with Rita Marley, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson and Jack Johnson amongst many others.
N-Dubz and Ziggy Marley join the already announced Razorlight, James Blunt, Erasure, Peter Andre and Public Image Limited. The GuilFest-line up will continue to grow over the coming months to a massive 200 bands performing across 7 music stages over the 3 days of the festival. There are many more acts to be revealed for all the stages soon, including the Rock Cave and Dance tent, as well as top performers for both the eFestivals comedy and theatre tents.
BOB MARLEY & THE GOLDEN AGE OF REGGAE PHOTO EXHIBITION - 7th April – 15th May 2011, LONDON, ENGLAND

Proud Camden presents Bob Marley & the Golden Age of Reggae, an exhibition of photographs by celebrated photographer Kim Gottlieb-Walker. This exhibition is a stunning visual record of the "golden age of reggae? to mark the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's death this May.

During 1975 and 1976, renowned underground photo-journalist Kim Gottlieb-Walker and her husband, Head of Publicity at Island Records Jeff Walker, documented what is now widely recognised as the Golden Age of reggae. Over two years of historic trips to Jamaica and exclusive meetings in Los Angeles, Kim took iconic photographs of the artists who would go on to define an era and captivate a generation.

Proud Galleries has worked with Kim Gottlieb-Walker to create an exhibition of candid and intimate photographs of the artists and producers who brought the reggae sound to the international stage, including Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Toots Hibbert, Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry and, of course, Bob Marley. This exhibition includes never-before-seen photographs and is a stunning photographic record of one of the most exciting moments in recent musical history, with a warmth and intimacy born out of the respect between Kim Gottlieb-Walker and the artist.

JUNIOR REID AND THE ONE BLOOD BAND – TOURING NORTH AMERICA - MAY / JUNE 2011

The former lead singer of Black Uhuru, with chart topping hits including the monster hits One Blood and This is Why I’m Hot (remix), Junior “One Blood” Reid is a worldwide Reggae/Dancehall Legend, universally loved and respected by fellow artists and fans.

Reid has a new album – Living Legend – which has been completed and is soon to be released. Living Legend features appearances by hot current hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayn, Cool and Dre and Swiss Beat, and the reggae artists Capleton and Andrew and Wada Blood, Reid’s sons.

Junior’s live show is in excellent shape with a repertoire of hit after hit songs. His sons Andrew and Wada Blood are also hot, up front, born and raised in the music business. Junior’s One Blood band is clicking and shocking. Junior Reid and his One Blood band are definitely ready for action.

CHEF MAYRA'S APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, RAW & UNFILTERED. GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YA!
There is truth in the saying an Apple a day will keep the doctor away. Pure Apple Cider Vinegar (raw and unfiltered) is loaded with Potassium, Phosphorous, Cholerine, Sodium, Magnesium, Calcium, Sulphur, Iron, Fluorine, Silicon, plus many other trace elements. Once you distill vinegar, any curative properties are destroyed.

Apple Cider Vinegar is good for many things. I'll start with the obvious benefits that I have experienced using ACV. Apple Cider Vinegar slows or stops hair loss. Apples cider vinegar cures a nautious tummy. Apple Cider Vinegar will stop a cough caused by a cold and phlegm build up and helps you to get over it quicker, because it breaks up the phlegm. Apple Cider Vinegar keeps you regular ;-)

I drink it like a tea, with hot water, 2 tsps of Apple Cider Vinegar and AGAVE nectar about twice daily. Lots of times I'll also add green tea or blueberry tea.

I recommend reading all ingredient labels on food products thoroughly for recipe success.

ON THIS DAY IN REGGAE
Grounation Day
1958:  Mike Barson [Madness] is born.
----:  Ise Hirokau [Ska Flames; vocals] is born.
1964:  Singer Coozie Mellers is born in Kingston, Jamaica.
1966:  H.I.M. Haile Selassie I visits Jamaica.
Selassie's Ethiopian airliner, emblazoned with a roaring Lion of Judah insignia and trimmed in stripes of red, green, and gold, touched down at Palisadoes airport at 1:30 p.m. More than 100,000 people (most of them Rastas) were there to greet him.
Since Selassie's visit, the Grounation ceremonies had been conducted every April 21. Beginning in 1968, Bob Marley sat in on that.
1967:  Junior Cat is born.

SINGIN GOLD IS. SYMBIZ SOUND:MARCHING ON
The morbid future scenarios in films such as The Terminator, Mad Max or The Matrix are well-known to the most of us. And regardless of whether our future truly does look as bleak as Hollywood will have us believe or whether we in fact have a rather bright and shining future ahead of us, the main question remains, *which music will be accompanying this Future?* While it is likely that in the mainstream the show business will be taken over by holograms and robots, from underground clubs and big independent festivals we will continue to hear the sweet sound of bass music made with love. *Now is the Time for Future Dancehall Today was Yesterday!*

AS ABOVE - SO BELOW
"To me there is no difference between one person and another; I behold all as soul-reflections of the one God. I can't think of anyone as a stranger, for I know that we are all part of the One Spirit."

-- Paramahansa Yogananda
