Breathing Easy During Allergy Season

This spring has been a terrible allergy season and many of you are suffering for the first time

in years.  Listed below are some quick tips to help you avoid excessive allergy irritation:

1.  Chew your food 20 times per bite. Undigested food in the intestinal tract can cause inflammation and increased histamine responses all over the body.

2.  Avoid consuming large quantities of dairy products.  Dairy tends to produce more mucous in the body, which can make congestion worse.

3.  Try rubbing a small quantity of Vaseline on the inside of each nostril.  This can help trap pollen and stop it from reaching deeper in the nasal cavity.  Be sure to rinse out the Vaseline every night and use a sterile Q-tip to apply and remove the Vaseline.

4.  Exercise!  Elevating your heart rate and getting excited will cause blood vessels to constrict, which can make that stuffy, runny nose feel better.  Exercise can release adrenaline which always feels better.

5.  Avoid drinking alcohol.  Alcohol can cause dilation and irritation in the gastrointestinal tissue.  This can lead to leaky gut syndrome, which will cause all allergy symptoms to become worse when eating foods.

6.  Consume natural antihistamines such as vitamin C.  Try to find a brand that is fully reduced ascorbic acid and take up to 3000 mg per day.  Consult your doctor prior to taking large doses of vitamin C if you suffer from gout or kidney stones.

How do you relieve sinus headaches?

Answer:  Chiropractic adjustments to the upper cervical spine. The solutions is that simple.  Sinus drainage occurs through the lymphatic vessels located in the front, back, and sides of the neck.  often times the inflamation and irritation of sinus infections cause the small muscles at the base of the skull to tighten.  It is believed that these muscles can impede blood and lymphatic flow from the head to the neck.  When the upper cervical spine is adjusted there is a neurological change that occurs, which tends to relax those small muscles.  Blood and lymphatic congestion start to flow more freely, and sinus pressure is relieved quickly.  I like to combined this therapy with lymphatic message and pressure point therapy to give the best results.

Are Your Favorite Foods Causing Allergies?

Have you ever wondered why you crave certain foods?  Recent Research has discovered that people crave foods they are allergic to.  The reason this happens is due to the effects of prodynorphins.  Prodynorphins mimick the effects of opioid drugs, which make your bain happy and care free.  Unfortunately consuming these foods that contain prodynorphins will cause increased inflammation and altered immune responses throughout the body.  The take home message is to think about which foods  you are craving while your allergies are irritated as those foods might be making symptoms worse. To find out how to test for these food intolerances call Dr. Pederson at 713-526-2225 or visit the website:
