KY-MANI MARLEY TEAMS WITH GRAMPS MORGAN FOR WEST COAST U.S. TOUR

May 11, 2011 – Following a two month tour of Senegal, Brazil, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu, plus four sold-out headline shows in California earlier this year, Grammy nominated reggae singer Ky-Mani Marley will soon head back on the road, playing both festivals and club/theatre shows at home and abroad.

In July, he will team up with fellow reggae singer, Gramps Morgan, of Morgan Heritage. This West Coast U.S. co-headline run dubbed the Reggae Revolution Tour, will be the first time these two second generation artists will tour together, with stops in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. “I’m excited to finally be touring with my long-time friend and brother, Gramps,” expressed Ky-Mani. "The Reggae Revolution Tour with Ky-Mani and myself, simply is history being written," added Gramps.

The tour will include two heritage festivals: the 27th Annual Reggae on the River in Northern California where they will share the stage with the likes of Tony Rebel, Bushman, Queen Ifrica, Seun Anikulapo Kuti & Egypt 80; and in Victoria, BC, the 12th Annual Ska Festival, a popular three day celebration of ska, reggae, dub and punk music. Fans are encouraged to follow Ky-Mani and Gramps on Facebook and Twitter for the opportunity to win tickets, meet & greets and official merchandise.

Ky-Mani will then make a long-awaited return to the U.K. and parts of Europe. This run will include four festivals: Mela Festival in Norway, One Love Peace Festival in London, Reggae Jam Festival in Germany and Reggae Sun Ska Festival in France. Shaggy, Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes and Third World are among the heavyweights scheduled to perform at the One Love Peace Festival. This event was inspired by the historic One Love Peace Concert held in Jamaica in 1978, headlined by Bob Marley, to bring about peace between the warring factions in Kingston’s inner city areas.

SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011

With just 5 weeks before the 18th annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival kicks off, Jah9, 7th Street Showcase and Comanche High Power have been added to complete the list of artists performing at this year's festival.

Old school blues improvisation meets hard hitting lyrical prowess in a rich imaginative blend of vocal clarity and complexity. Janine brings her refreshing mix of contemporary and conscious poetry to the stage and delivers a mature, sophisticated style with a unique and captivating energy all of her own. Her musical influences range from Billie Holiday and Nina Simone to Augustus Pablo and Sizzla Kalonji. Over the past 2 years she has been consistently and impressively making her mark on the Jamaican musical landscape, inspiring audiences and musicians alike through her songs and the live productions she has conceptualized and staged. She is now poised for heavy rotation due to her signature sound and collaborations with ace producers including Donovan Bennett of Corleon Records, Rory Gilligan of Stone Love International (who she will be performing alongside of on Saturday night), and on her highly anticipated debut album project with Beres Hammond and Sheldon Bernard of Harmony House Music. The album is slated for release in 2011 but Jah9 is already in demand as a songwriter and creative director of repute.

7th St. Band is a foundation band out of Berkeley, California that has been performing reggae on the west coast for the last 9 years. Edi (drummie, founder and capitan of 7th st.) and Benjamin (keys & secretary of state) have known each other since they were 13 years old and have been making music together for a long time. Together with Jason (guitar and founder of the Funkanauts) and Barry (saxophone) they make up 7th St. Band. They have recently been backing some of reggae and Jamaica's finest singers artists.  SNWMF is pleased that, for this year's festival 7th Street will be Showcasing some of the Bay Area's finest musical talents including Arkaingelle, Junior Toots, Malika Madremana, Empress Isheba, Binghi Ghost and Irae Divine.

"We're up around five figures now", says selector Daddy Stevo of Comanche High Power, referring to the sheer number of reggae vinyl records in his archive, amassed over the last 25 years. This ever-expanding collection, which spans the musical history of Jamaica and 'anywhere good reggae comes from', forms the basis of the sound's message-driven musical mission. Seeking to educate and uplift the community, Comanche selectors dig deep into the music to find and bring to light the many highly underrated and unsung artists both in reggae history and modern roots and cultural dancehall music - as well as more well-known selections - all on original vinyl records.

THE KNITTING FACTORY (Reno) PRESENTS;

THE ALCHEMYSTICS - A RAY OF LIGHT IN A FORMULAIC MUSICAL WORLD

"The Alchemystics are not content to rely on standard rhythms or trite chord progressions. Reggae beats are infused with hip- hop lyricism to create a sound that is polished and refreshingly unpredictable. In a world where musicians seem content to follow established formulas it encouraging to find a band that can defy boundaries with skill and grace."
LISA MCINTYRE  performer magazine

A ray of light in a formulaic musical world, The Alchemystics have spent years perfecting their genre-bending, socially-conscious blend of reggae, politically infused hip-hop, gritty soul, hard-driving rock, and pulsing Jamaican, Cuban and Trinidadian rhythms into an utterly unique and distinctively original new sound. This is modern-day roots music with global appeal – an alchemy of ancient musical traditions; intricate, intelligent wordplay; elementally raw soul; irresistible hooks; deep, driving rhythms; and old-school vocal harmonies.

Formed by producers, and rhythmic earth shakers Demse Zullo - drums/percussion & Garrett Sawyer - bass in early 2003, the Alchemystics under their musical direction have grown into an eclectic lineup of talented musicians combining the inspired, masterful vocals of Ras Jahn and Ian-I, the smooth and socially conscious lyricism of Force, and the cosmic keyboards of Jay Metcalf. Together, the Alchemystics have catalyzed into an original, unstoppable musical force. Their high-energy, fiercely danceable live shows, have gained the band a passionately loyal multi-cultural, multi-generational following throughout North East, and beyond.

The Alchemystics firmly embrace the philosophy that music and art are tools for propelling social change in society and that the future of music and the planet necessitates bringing people of diverse backgrounds together to create conscious community. Individually and collectively, the members of the Alchemystics prioritize giving back to their local community, working closely with local youth groups and lending their musical talents when called upon. Individually and as a group, Alchemystics members regularly guest lecture, teach, and perform at schools and colleges throughout the Northeast.

With their new album, Spread Hope (May 23, 2011) The Alchemystics have released their unmistakable sound and positive message to the world. Funky guitar, cascading bass lines, tight percussion, and layered keyboards create a rich sonic tapestry that weaves together musical and cultural elements of the past and present into the new sound of tomorrow.  Produced by Demse Zullo & Garrett Sawyer of Northfire Crew , Spread Hope breaks free of traditional musical boundaries, equally setting dancehalls, festivals, and clubs ablaze.

STEPHEN MARLEY RETURNS WITH 'REVELATION PT 1: THE ROOT OF LIFE'

MIRAMAR - 7-time Grammy award winning singer-songwriter, Stephen Marley, is set to release his third solo project, REVELATION PT 1: THE ROOT OF LIFE from Ghetto Youths/Tuff Gong/Universal Republic on May 24, 2011. Conceived as a celebration and preservation for roots rock reggae, REVELATION PT 1: THE ROOT OF LIFE ensures that the music's regal template is maintained throughout the 21st century.

Anchored in reggae's scorching drum and bass backbeat, THE ROOT OF LIFE delivers an organic and richly textured sound through its 14 tracks, making it a true body of work that delivers powerful messages and encouragement for the struggling masses ("Working Ways"); depicts the harrowing residual effect of slavery ("Old Slaves"); evokes the sorrow of rejection ("She Knows Now"); conveys the disappointment of "False Friends"; in reggae's lovers-rock tradition a duet with Melanie Fiona, "No Cigarette Smoking"; to the final track "Now I Know," a contemplative song about moving on.

The first single, "Jah Army," features Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Buju Banton spitting formidable, career-defining verses over a thunderous one-drop rhythm with lyrics to rally the troops. "Whether it's in the music or our life, get it together man, the Gideon is on," declares Stephen.

Conceived as a two part project, THE ROOT OF LIFE will be followed by the release of REVELATION PT 2: THE FRUIT OF LIFE, due in fall of 2011, which will feature an array of styles that have emanated from reggae's core.
