Furry Fitness Challenge - June 11, 2011!  Win a FREE YEAR of Services!

It’s time!  Grab your dog or cat and come in for your official weigh-in and sign up to participate in our 7-week weight loss challenge!  Your workout team is either you and your dog or you and your cat. We combine your weight and the team with the greatest percentage of weight lost, wins!  The Grand Prize is a FREE YEAR of services at the Camp or Home Buddies of choice (that’s a $3,000 value!), plus $150 to FetchDog.com and a free year of dog or cat food from Nulo (a $600 value)!  We even have prizes for the top 25 runner up contestants!  Only the first and last weigh-ins are official and all weigh-ins in between are for fun and at the discretion of the entrant to create a competitive environment.

THE CHALLENGE

To bring awareness to pet obesity and to create a fun nationwide competition, Camp Bow Wow and Home Buddies are launching The Furry Fitness Challenge!  On June 11, 2011, our Camps and Home Buddies locations around the nation will be holding the initial weigh-in events.  Your workout team (you and your dog or you and your cat) will go to the Camp or Home Buddies event, have some fun, and do your official weigh-in.  For those of you that can’t make it on 6/11, you will have up to a week to enter – stop in to Camp during our open hours through 6/17 for a weigh in, or check with your local Home Buddies for their weigh-in instructions.

Then, you’ll have 7 weeks (until 8/6/11) to shed some pounds with your pet!  The team with the greatest percentage of combined weight loss (not actual pounds, but the percentage of weight lost) wins!

FREE Flip Video Cameras!

We will select several contestants to receive a free Flip Video Camera so we can track your workouts and weight loss efforts via video!  And, after the challenge ends, the camera is yours to keep!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Find the closest Camp or Home Buddies to you and check out their website for their event details on 6/11/11.  Visit their Camp or specified Home Buddies event location with your dog (or cat!) and get your official weigh-in and entrance!

Once you weigh-in and enter, we will give you special access to our contest microsite where you can upload your photos and videos, track your progress, ask a real vet and a real doctor questions about your pet or your own health and lots more!

This will be a fun challenge (with a big prize) so tell your friends, family and co-workers about it and start a friendly competition!

Tips for 'Take Your Dog to Work Day' (6/24)

Corporate Fido

Check with your boss and colleagues to confirm that Fido can play corporate for the day. Find out if others in the office will be bringing in their own dogs in an effort to sort out any possible issues between the dogs. When bringing Fido into the office, be sure to keep him on a leash, especially when introducing him to co-workers and their dogs. To be sure that Fido is looking his freshest for his first day on the job, Camp Bow Wow offers a la carte services such as grooming and dog training at several locations nationwide.

Condition Fido

If Fido isn’t quite ready to go corporate, start him at a Camp Bow Wow, which can help improve his behavior. Camp Bow Wow’s Bow Wow Behavior Buddies trainers offer group and private training classes at 42 franchise locations throughout the country. Training classes are held at Camp Bow Wow locations, parks and at client’s homes. And during the time when Fido can’t come to work and can’t go to Camp, Camp Bow Wow’s in-home care franchise, Home Buddies, offers dog walking services as one of its many components.

Curious Fido

Being new on the job, Fido is going to want to explore. Survey the scene before bringing him to the office. Remove small items that could serve as choking hazards for Fido, like wayward paperclips, staples and even pens. Secure all loose cords so that Fido is not enticed to chew on them.

Playful Fido

Decide on a time to meet co-workers outside. A long day in the office can seem even longer for a dog when they are not used to being in an unfamiliar place. A group canine play-date is a great way for the dogs to interact with each other in a regulated, yet unlimited physical setting.

Stationary Fido

In case you are not able to take Fido outside, bring toys to work so that he can entertain himself while relaxing on his dog bed or comfortable blanket. Bringing his personal things to work will help him associate the new space as his home-away-from-home. Make sure that the toy is not squeaky so as not to disturb others. Avoid rawhide, bones and other cherished possessions. Some dogs do not share well, and it is important for their owner to be aware of this.

Hungry Fido

If Fido’s mealtime falls during office hours, be sure to bring his personal food and water bowl. Store his bowls away from any electrical wires, equipment or porous surfaces. Be sure to feed and hydrate Fido away from others dogs so that other dogs are not tempted by their appetite.

Relieving Fido

Fido will be more excited and stimulated than normal to be in a new territory with you. Bring Wee-Wee Pads to work with you to avoid any accidents. Be sure to take Fido out for regular walks to a pre-established destination so that he can relieve himself.

Health, Psychological and Employee Benefits

“We at the Camp Bow Wow corporate office are avid believers in bringing pets to the office (we have dogs here every day!), as there are many psychological and health benefits to doing so. Studies show that having pets in the workplace leads to a more creative work environment, helps to lower stress and blood presser levels as well as increase productivity within the work force. CNN has even reported that 75% of people surveyed on the topic responded that they would work longer hours if they were able to bring their pet to the office.” Heidi Ganahl, CEO & Founder of Camp Bow Wow.

What a great way to combine two of the important things in our lives, our furry companion and our job!  If your office does not allow your dog to come to work on Bring Your Dog to Work Day, please be sure to bring them to Camp Bow Wow for Day Camp or call Home Buddies and we’ll come take your pup for a well-deserved walk!

"If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them."
