Student of the Month / Blaine Hamilton

Blaine Hamilton...bassist, vocalist, drummer and cabasa player extraordinaire is LMA's student of the month.  Blaine's hard work and positive attitude have made an incredible impact on LMA's band program.  At the Nashville recording session Blaine performed extremely well and in the coming months you'll see this multi-instrumentalist in many of the videos.

Student's Trip to Nashville A Success!

48 students went to Starstruck Studios and the trip couldn't have gone more smoothly.  The students recorded 8 songs from 8:00 am until 3:30 am, so it was our longest session to date.  We are currently working on the 8 videos which will be released over the next year or so.  A big thanks goes out to the following people: Tom Inglin, Nick Inglin and Tom Henry for taking photos, Josh Cole and Morgan Asher for running the videocameras, Brian Anderson the assistant producer, Kristin Agee for lending all her instruments and organizing the students, Todd Tidwell the lead engineer, all the parents and of course all the students for their hard work.

The students had a great time performing at the Loveland Lanes Bowling Alley and we'll be sure to schedule more performances there in the future.  The recital went very well due to efforts of Josh Cole and Morgan Asher.  They ran the sound and helped to set up all of the equipment.  To see photos of this event please follow the link below.

LMA Welcomes Samantha Stein to Our Staff

Instructor / Violin, Piano and Voice
Samantha Stein has made music her livelihood since the age of 4, when she began studying violin. She began studying voice at the age of 11, and piano at the age of 13. She has worked with vocal students from ages 6 to adult, and teaches a mix of classical, musical theater and popular music styles. She believes in a healthy, free voice and teaches according to the whole body of the student. Her vocal methods focus on having fun while cementing the basics of diction, breath support, and artistry. Samantha earned a Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. This past year she combined her love of teaching with her love of performance as she toured as Mabel in Pirates of Penzance with Opera for the Young, Wisconsin’s acclaimed outreach young artist program.

In addition to teaching, Samantha maintains an exciting career in vocal performance. She has starred in roles such as Yum-Yum with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago in their production of The Mikado, as Musetta in La Boheme with the Verismo Opera Club of Chicago, as Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bay View Music Festival, and as Ernestine in Offenbach’s R.S.V.P. with the Chicago College of Performing Arts. Her soloist work includes Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasie.

Puzzle Contest Winner / Ethan Carle

Ethan Carle, a 7th grader at Loveland Middle School, described his work as “a puzzle portrait that was an impromptu project, incorporating many types of music into a medley puzzle.’ His “masterpiece” truly is very colorful—a kind of musical “Where’s Waldo”!  Ethan plays the piano and the cello, and enjoys cooking and reading.  He added that while his brother Lucas claims not to be artistic, that he really is very talented. Ethan enjoyed a $25 gift card as well.

Puzzle Contest Winner / Joshua Badzik

Joshua Badzik is in 5th grade at Loveland Intermediate.  From his puzzle, you can see that he is a Beatles fan, and was learning “Yellow Submarine” at the time of the puzzle contest, so it was an obvious choice!  Joshua is a Boy Scout, on Student Council, likes reading and playing the piano, and is a member of LEAF. He enjoys Harry Potter books, and swims for the Sycamore Flying Fish.  He requested his $25 gift card for Game Stop.

Puzzle Contest Winner / Zachary Karp

Zachary Karp is a 6th grader at Loveland Intermediate.  He plays CU soccer, is in the science club and the classics club.  In his free time, he enjoys fishing, legos, comics, Star Wars, reading, and playing the piano.  His puzzle showed his school spirit, incorporating school colors and stripes, and his love of music by incorporating LMA into his design.   I’m sure that he enjoyed his $25 gift card to The Melting Pot immensely!

Puzzle Contest Winner / Lucas Carle

Lucas Carle is a freshman at Loveland High School.  He claims to not have any artistic ability, but his puzzle piece shows otherwise! He plays the piano, keyboards, and bassoon, and is keyboardist for the Jazz Lab Band at LHS.  Lucas is interested in architecture and enjoys the Frank Lloyd Wright architectural style.  While he admits that he didn’t do the puzzle piece until the night before it was due (which he claims probably happened with other students as well...), he was pleased to receive a gift card for Barnes and Noble, as he is an avid reader.

L.I.F.E Backpack Program

LMA has been asked by Terri Rogers of L.I.F.E. to partner with them in their Backpack program for low income families in the Loveland School District.  They distributed 260 backpacks last year, and anticipate that the need will be even greater this school year.    Backpacks needn’t be expensive, and they are needed for grades PreK-12.  L.I.F.E. will fill the backpacks with supplies, and students will be able to come and shop and choose their own backpack at no cost.  You remember the beginning of every school year, don’t you?  It’s exciting to get a new backpack and supplies, and some of these kids have never had a new one of their own.
It’s easy to help—just pick up a backpack and bring it to LMA by August 16th—LMA will deliver them to L.I.F.E.  There aren’t any size requirements—just let your child choose a backpack that THEY would enjoy carrying—they’ll feel great about it and have fun choosing!  Backpacks will be distributed on Saturday August 20, 2011. The children will be able to come and personally pick out their own backpack and leave with smiles on their faces. We also replenish school supplies in December.

Thanks for your support of this program!
