(Lucky Dube’s daughter - with a full South African band that includes members of Lucky Dube's band)
Opening DJ: DJ Treez
River Ranch Lodge, Tahoe City, CA (north Tahoe)
$10 advance/$15 at the door

Renegade Productions presents Reggae on the Truckee River  - a kick-off part for Wanderlust Festival featuring Nkulee Dube (Lucky Dube’s daughter) – who is on tour with a full South African band which includes members of the late, great Lucky Dube's band).

The event is at the River Ranch Lodge in Tahoe City, CA (north Tahoe) just three miles north of Tahoe City on Highway 89. Tickets are $10 advance and $15 at the door. Doors open at 8:30 with DJ Treez entertaining the crowd and show time is 9:30pm. The venue is outside on the patio next to the beautiful Truckee River. Come early for dinner!

This 24-year old singer, songwriter, has managed to fuse ethno-soul and jazz with ragga. Born to the family of a music legend, Nkulee Dube has big shoes to fill to preserve and sustain the name of her late father, Lucky Dube. Nkulee is no stranger to the performance circuit and the music industry; she has been a backing singer and dancer for the late Lebo Mathosa and later Ntando Bangani.

She glides and slides with ease in between her songs as she traverses between ragga and ethno-soul as if she was born on stage. As a guest artist and backing vocalist, Nkulee has been part of her late father’s performing band ‘One People’, and Nkulee has performed at major festivals in Australia, Holland, Papua New Guinea, French Guyana, Suriname, etc.

Nkulee has already appeared in a compilation album released by Sillywalks Entertainment in Germany. Additionally, Nkulee has performed on some of Skwatta Kamp members’ albums: Slikour and Nemza, as featured artist.

A powerful performer, just like her father, Nkulee has shared the stage with the Jamaican reggae/ragga artist Sizzla in countries such as South Africa, Uganda, and Kenya.

She is one to watch and could easily fill the shoes of the greatest South African performers, such as Brenda Fassie, Lebo Mathosa and of course her beloved dad Lucky Dube.

Most importantly, Nkulee is a blessed artist in her own right with her own style and has many miles to travel.

Advance tickets are available at the River Ranch, New Moon Natural Foods in Tahoe City and Truckee, Alice’s Mountain Market in Squaw Valley, Mad about Music in South Lake Tahoe, and Recycled Records in Reno. Online purchases can be made at www.renegadeshows.com

GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO THE FIRST ISSUE OF GRASSROOTS – THE MEDICINAL MARIJUANA MOVEMENT DIGITAL MAGAZINE.

There is a lot of information on the subject of marijuana these days and moreover, it’s  changing every day. That’s why we created this magazine – it’s beyond bongs and blondes at this point (God bless ‘em).

Marijuana is now a whole new ball game. More sophisticated
minds want to be kept apprised of the evolving status of the
plant in terms of medicine, politics and business, and culturally, in the kitchen and on the streets.

We are in the midst of a paradigm shift and the polarized
debate over this plant will likely become a relic of the past.
GrassRoots, as an observer of history unfolding, captures the  best of what these times have to offer: stories by pioneers  in the cannabis movement, the latest research by scientists,  legal and medical Q&A columns, tips on cultivating your own  medicine, market observations, as well as theory and even  comedy. Our contributors include doctors, yogis, lawyers,  connoisseurs, and farmers as we are geared toward all those  readers interested in and aware of the enormous changes  that are underfoot.

You’re part of the cutting edge! May these pages stimulate
your conversations and help create a new framework for a
better world.

Reggae 4 Japan digged deep and raised US $25,000 (JA $2,136,249.92) for the American Red Cross' Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Effort.

Held at the York College in Queens, New York, on June 5, Reggae 4 Japan is the charity show organised by Japanese Sound Mighty Crown, their management Irish and Chin, alongside VP Records.

A month later, the numbers are in and a pleased team of organisers officially handed over US $25,000 to the Red Cross last Thursday at their headquarters in New York. The concert saw the Jamaican entertainment fraternity uniting to assist Japan after the earthquake and resulting tsunami that devastated the country on March 11. Recorded as 9.0 on the Richter scale, it was the most powerful quake ever to hit the country.

The concert saw the likes of reggae's 'who's who' including Freddie McGregor with his sons Chino and Stephen McGregor, Maxi Priest, Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley, Gramps and Peetah Morgan, Duane Stephenson, Mr Vegas, Capleton, and more. A total of 18 artistes performed, including three surprise acts such as the reclusive Shabba Ranks and rapper Nas. VERMONT REGGAE FEST MOVES TO LOCAL FAIR GROUNDS
ROCHESTER— The Vermont Reggae Festival will have a new home this year at the Rochester Fairgrounds on July 29-30.

The festival, created in 1986, has been held at several locations throughout Vermont over the past 20 years and has brought with it famous musicians, huge crowds and some controversy.

Before last year's festival was held in Johnson, Vt., city officials and the local sheriff's department held a town meeting to let residents voice their concerns about the event.

Tickets to attend both days of the festival and camp both nights cost $60, while a one-day ticket for Saturday costs $40. Parking for the event costs $5.

According to Lee, this is nearly half the price that tickets typically sold for in Vermont, where a camping pass could cost up to $100.

RICHIE SPICE – TOURING NORTH AMERICA AND CANADA SUPPORTING HIS NEW RELEASE – BOOK OF JOB - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2011
International cultural reggae singer Richie Spice’s new album Book of Job came out March 15th and went straight to the top 10 on the Billboard Reggae charts, based on radio airplay, CD sales and digital downloads. The album has 12 tracks of socially conscious roots reggae. Richie Spice named his album Book of Job because of his commitment to creating uplifting music, which is a testimony to Job’s unwavering faith while he endured many hardships. The first single from the album, Black Woman, sees Spice paying homage to women. The single and accompanying video are now enjoying airplay on reggae channels globally.

Last February, Spice played on all three of the Raggamuffin festivals in Long Beach, San Diego and Oakland, CA. Only the most popular reggae acts were chosen to play on all three of these festivals, and on these shows Richie Spice was in fine form and was well received. Spice has proven he has the formula for writing and producing hit songs. He surely has good songs, and the Billboard charts are proof of that.

Richie Spice’s western U.S. tour last September 2010 was also a great success. His live set and band were excellent and the show was a pleasure to witness. Prior to that, his crew did a two week European tour in March, and they are to return again to Europe in June this summer for a five week tour within the festival circuit. Over the years Richie has been consistently touring and performing in Europe. He is very popular there. He and his crew also recently finished touring Australia, and they are now one year into a two year plan to tour the entire Caribbean.
