RIVERS COALITION MEETING TO FEATURE UPDATES ON RAIN EVENTS AND WATER MANAGEMENT CONDITIONS

Although those recent "sod-soakers" were welcome antidotes to our persistent  drought ills, the rains do nothing to prevent long term trouble from the man made discharges to the coasts.

Let's hear from the experts on where we stand and what's expected, at the Rivers Coalition general meeting at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at Stuart City Hall.

The public  meeting will wrap up an interesting, to say the least, year of political happenings that leave in doubt the chance of  getting a storage-flowway developed to send south from Lake Okeechobee the hundreds of billions of gallons of  water that is shunted off to both coasts in wet years in order to drain the Everglades Agricultural Area.

We hope to see you at the Oct. 27 meeting. There's plenty of free parking,  and even coffee and donuts await you at this final general meeting of the year. But just as it's said that the polluters never sleep, RC leaders will continue during the off months  to support necessary reforms.

This may be a good time for everyone to review the worlds of strong info at the www.riverscoalition.org website.

Speakers Bureau Update!

Rivers Coalition presents to the Martin County Democratic Club STUART — Leon Abood, Chairman, of the Rivers Coalition met with the Martin County Democratic Club on October 5th, 2011 at the Best Western in Stuart.

His educational presentation included information on how discharges from Lake Okeechobee damage the St. Lucie Estuary and Indian River Lagoon.

Our area has one of the world’s most diverse animal and plant life. When subjected to periods of high fresh water releases from Lake Okeechobee, oyster beds and marine sea grass communities, home to hundreds of life forms, are eliminated, and manatees, porpoises and coastal birds lose habitat and leave.

These are just a few of the many ongoing issues the Rivers Coalition is fighting against.

There is a solution. For ways you can help please visit http://www.RiversCoalition.org also for more information on the Rivers Coalition Speakers Bureau contact Todd Weissing at
