Thought for Today

The clear bead at the center changes everything.

There are no edges to my loving now.

I've heard it said there's a window that opens

from one mind to another

but if there's no wall, there's no need

for fitting the window, or the latch.

Message from Karen

Dear friends,

This newsletter has lots of links and information (including events that are happening this weekend!) so I'll keep this message short.

We humans are on an evolutionary path in which we are called to evolve ourselves and, collectively, to evolve the planet.  There are many forces that push against the move toward higher states of consciousness - inside and out.  The move forward sometimes feels like standing still or even moving backwards when, in fact, something is always happening, always moving, at the cellular, at the subtle body level, on all levels of our being.  What stands in our way are our own fears and limitations that we place on ourselves and others.

In the book, A Path With Heart, Jack Kornfield writes, "We are human beings, and the human gate to the sacred is our own body, heart, and mind, the history from which we've come, and the closest relationships and circumstances of our life...An integrated sense of spirituality understands that if we are to bring light or wisdom or compassion into the world, we must first begin with ourselves...We must make certain that our path is connected with our heart."

The path of yoga is a path of self-discovery and transformation.  In the words of my teacher, Joseph LePage, "This transformation involves living life fully, deeply, intensely, almost madly, and at the same time, realizing that there is a still-point at the center of the heart, which is always complete and whole."  That still-point is always there, we just lose sight of it and get confused.  Yoga nidra is a practice of coming home, coming home to that still-point, to our wholeness.

Breathe, you can relax now..yoga heals us, really!

From one heart to another, blessings for peaceful moments during the holidays.  I look forward to seeing you on the mat.

Om shanti, Karen

Compassionate Heart Yoga Nidra

There is a life-force within your soul, seek that life.

There is a gem in the mountain of your body, seek that mine.

O traveler, if you are in search of That

Don't look outside, look inside yourself and seek That.

~ Rumi (Shahram Shiva from the book, Rumi, Thief of Sleep)

Chakra Yoga Studies

The Essence of Mind-Body Health

January 14, 2012

Preston, Connecticut

The chakras are a psychological, philosophical and spiritual framework for human evolution and development.  Originating in the Indian subcontinent thousands of years ago, the chakras are an important road map for our life journey as we evolve from basic needs toward more subtle and spiritual aspirations.  Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means "wheel" and refers to centers of energy or vital life force within the body.  There are seven main chakras that align with the human spine and many smaller ones throughout the body.  These centers receive, store, and distribute energy to specific parts of the mind-body.  Each of the chakra energies has a theme or core intention.  Hatha yoga practices including asana and pranayama are seen as vehicles for opening, aligning, and balancing the chakras.  Chakra practice is a key foundation of the study of Yoga.

In this workshop, you'll be introduced to the chakras as a system for self-understanding and personal healing.  This workshop is part lecture, part practice.  All levels welcome.  Asana modifications will be offered as needed.

10 - 1 p.m. Part 1 - Overview of the chakras, lecture with some practice

2 - 4 p.m. Part 2 - Practice with some lecture

Register early to reserve your space!

Chakra Yoga Nidra

The Chakras are a model of psycho-spiritual evolution and represent the potential for transformation at all levels of our being.  When we work with one chakra we are really working with them all.  The beauty of Yoga Nidra is that healing can happen through the body / chakras without our conscious effort.
