Brina – New Voice of World Roots Reggae Music From Jamaica – Releaes New Single “Lala Vizuri” (Sleep My Little Baby) As a Free Download

This song is available exclusively as a free download at:

www.brinastunes.com

Brina has gained airplay in Jamaica and globally with her previous double single release Listen & Real Reggae Music. This new song is from her début album 'Under One Sun'.

“Every singer should have a baby’s song. I have been performing this song since I wrote it in 2009, and now it’s time to share it with the rest of the world.” – Brina.

This song heals the soul. Listen as Brina sings from her heart to the children of the world.

“Lala Vizuri” shares both English and Swahili. Brina's desire to connect with a wider audience by using both languages is clear. The song's theme is sure to be appreciated globally and touch the heart of the Pan African Swahili speaking peoples.

Brina asks us to bring to mind the horrific world of suffering children.  She asks us to imagine.

“Wazza, every child a tender seed given the chance to blossom and grow!”

In the chorus she intones from her heart...

“Sleep my little baby tonight I'll leave the lights on....

Sleep my little baby, this village will pray for you”

…reflecting how little children, because of fear and pain are afraid to sleep without lights.

Rock, sway and dance as you listen to Lala Vizuri. Share Brina's baby's song born from her beating heart and soul. Inhale these words of love and hope as they bring tears to your eyes. Make it an anthem of hope for future generations.

Lala Vizuri is a cool one drop recorded with the legendary Sly Dunbar on drums. Istvan Dely’s Afro-Caribbean touch on percussion, Demar Gayle of Raging Fyah on keyboards, the haunting guitar of Omar Francis and the warm laid back bass of Kieran C Murray all add to the heart and soul of this inspiring song.

Announcing Kevin Isaacs and Tallawah European Tour

Summer 2012    Book Now!  New Album !

If there’s one man who can keep the legacy of Gregory Isaacs alive it’s Kevin Isaacs. They’re cut from the same cloth - Kevin possesses his father’s smooth tone of voice, making him a worthy successor to The Cool Ruler. ‘Keep on doing it, don’t give up’, is what his father told him, and that’s exactly what he’s done.

Born in 1979 in Jamaica, Kevin wrote his first song at the age of thirteen. He recorded and toured with his father, established himself as an independent producer, and even set up his own record label. A versatile artist, Kevin has written and recorded numerous songs, gaining recognition in Jamaica, America and throughout Europe. His slogan ‘Love can conquer war’ reflects his strong roots in a new wave of unity and reggae consciousness.

Shortly after Gregory died, Kevin discovered Tallawah on YouTube, playing a memorial concert in honour of his father. The band immediately caught his attention – never before had he heard a group that reproduced and mixed the styles of Gregory’s various backing bands so well. The Roots Radics, Sly & Robbie, Mafia & Fluxy and Steely & Clevie – Tallawah captures the essence of all those great masters of reggaemusic. He soon figured that this was the band he’d been looking for, and teamed up with Tallawah’s producer Patrick Ramdat. Together they organised a series of highly successful shows, held in June 2011. It proved a fertile partnership, culminating in a new album, due for release in October 2011. The title – Evolution - expresses Kevin’s desire to continue his father’s work and philosophy. The Evolution Tour 2012 kicks off in June 2012 with a live show that includes many famous Gregory songs as well as some unpublished work. Past, present and future - Kevin’s own repertoire will also be covered.

Combined with the vocal perfection and sweet melody of Tallawah’s Lady Joan, Sista Benji and talented musicians, the stage looks set for an unforgettable experience that will keep Gregory’s legacy alive. A trip for the ear and a feast for the eye!

Reggae's Gone Country

Reggae's Gone Country

VP Records/Elektra Nashville

Are reggae and down home country music compatible enough to mix together, or are they an oil and water combination? That’s the question VP Records and Warner Music Nashville must have considered before bringing Reggae’s Gone Country to the drawing board. Obviously, they decided the mix was worth trying, with the release of this album full of rare blends, backed by the star-power production team of John Rich (country music’s Big and Rich) and Dean Frazier (reggae’s consummate saxophonist).

The ability for these two genres to pair shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as reggae’s roots owe a great deal to American blues music, and country has a long list of unions in the blues category. Seen in that light, Reggae’s Gone Country was destined to work just as well. Topically, reggae and country tend to push a heavy and often emotionally-packed message, yet another reason the two were destined to mingle.

This is an album that pays respect to some of country music’s golden tracks, by pulling in some reggae greats, as well as some of the genre’s lesser-known artists. Shouldered by some of the album’s less recognizable reggae artists, The Gatlin Brothers’ “California” starts the list of morphed tracks with Romain Virgo and The Gatlin Brothers’own Larry Gatlin taking care of vocal duties, the iconic Patsy Kline’s“Crazy” is graced by the vocal stylings of Etana, and Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” (a staple of country music’s canon) is made modern by Busy Signal. What about the reggae heavyweights? Luciano sings “He’ll Have to Go” (Jim Reeves), Berres Hammond croons through “He Stopped Loving Her Today” (George Jones), and Freddie McGregor is the newly crowned “King of the Road” (Roger Miller).

Does the mix always work out? I often found myself hunting for that bass heavy reggae that I’m passionate for, but a true country fan would likely have a similar search for the country side of this album. That music lover who happens to be enamored with both genres will likely find an instant classic in this release. Just don’t go into this one expecting something that sounds entirely reggae, with a dab of country, or something that sounds overly country, with a touch of reggae; Reggae’s Gone Country happens to be such a solid mix of the two that you’d better love both musical styles, or else you might be hunting for something that sounds like what you already have in your collection. For someone who falls somewhere in the middle on a scale between reggae and country, this is an album that’s likely to play on.

Veteran artist, Freddie McGregor, is no longer on the line-up for the 2012 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

freddie_mcgregorFreddie McGregor

McGregor confirmed to chatychaty.com that he has already communicated to the organisesrs his decision not to be a part of the festival, which takes place from January 26 to 28 in Trelawny.  The CEO of Big Ship Productions, Mcgregor is known for his outspokenness, which he confesses oftentimes “gets me in trouble”. On this occasion, the internationally-acclaimed reggae singer has taken issue with what he terms the “disrespect meted out to ‘local’ acts . According to the man affectionately called Freddie, the very use of the term ‘local acts’ by the organizers  dictates a certain type of treatment.

“I am an international ambassador rooting for my country and reggae music. I have done festivals all over the world and wherever I perform I am treated like an international act … except in Jamaica. Right here in the land of reggae, we are being treated like second class citizens on this festival. For example, the ‘local’ acts have not even been given a deposit as yet. And, the pay being offered is the lowest that I would have ever received for a festival. As to the promotion of the reggae artists, that too is a joke,” McGregor explained.

He emphasized, however, that it was not about the money as he would “do the festival for free,” it’s about the organisers showing respect for and ensuring that the reggae artists feel that they are being treated with the same amount of consideration as the overseas acts.

“This is Jamaica’s golden jubilee. We are celebrating 50 years of this music that we are supposed to hold dear, but the line-up isn’t representative of that. Of course the acts who have been selected are deserving of being there, but there are  others who have been instrumental in pushing this reggae music to the four corners of the earth. I saw an article which quoted the organizers as saying that they couldn’t find acts like Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles, Bunny Wailer, The Mighty Diamonds and Derrick Morgan. I can tell you that that is a joke. Several of those artists are laughing right now,” McGregor said.

The captain of the Big Ship said he has made his position clear to the organizers, the Art of Music Promotions. “At the end of the day it’s not about them, it’s about Jamaica and reggae music. I  couldn’t go on stage and give a good performance feeling the way I do,” Freddie McGregor told chatychaty.com.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call?..
