Blues at the Abbey - Oreo Blue to Perform at Subiaco Academy

Oreo Blue, an awarding winning blues band, will perform at the Subiaco Performing Arts Center, Centenary Hall on February 2nd  at 7:45 p.m.

Subiaco has been host to several great blues artists over the past few years including Blind Mississippi Morris, Brad Web, Michael Burks, Watermelon Slim and Mark Sallings and the Famous Unknowns.  This will be the fourth time for Oreo Blue to perform at Subiaco.  Students, faculty, and monks still talk about the first show they played here in 2003.  “I have been going to blues festivals for years, and Oreo Blue is as good as it gets—they are a great live blues band,”  commented Roy Goetz, the Academy’s director of instrumental music.

This year will be a special treat for the members of the Subiaco Jazz Ensemble as they will again be opening the show along with members of Oreo Blue.  Goetz said, “It’s always a great experience for the Jazz Ensemble to play with musicians of this caliber.”

Oreo Blue is widely regarded as one of the region’s top acts and has thrilled audiences for over 20 years in clubs, at festivals, corporate parties, and special events. Oreo Bluehas produced six independently released original audio CDs that have sold copies in 20 different countries. The band has been named the AMA Blues Band of the Year five times.

Quote of the Week

"Blues is a natural fact, is something that a fellow lives. If you don't live it you don't have it. Young people have forgotten to cry the blues. Now they talk and get lawyers and things." -

This is for all the harp players out there...

Even the Mississippi Saxaphone (as it is sometimes called) can grace venues like Carnegie Hall.

Although the video below isn't blues, it's worth watching this performance.
