Los Angeles, CA Axed Musicians Protest
Outside Grammy Awards |

(www.reuters.com) - Angry musicians protested outside Sunday's Grammy Awards ceremony over a decision to cut 31 ethnic and minority musical categories from the music industry's top awards.
Organizers said they hoped dozens of music artists and fans of Latin jazz, gospel and blues music would join in the demonstration, and attend an alternative concert.
Some 23,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the Recording Academy reinstate Grammy awards for Native American and Hawaiian music, and reverse cuts in categories for Latin Jazz, Gospel, R&B and Blues that were axed in a major overhaul last year.
Paul Simon, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt and Bobby Sanabria are among the dozens of artists who have spoken out against the decision. Musicians say the Grammy cuts will harm their careers financially and diminish the profile of music enjoyed by minority communities.
"We are holding this concert to remind music fans about all the great music that has been eliminated from the Grammys. To paraphrase what Frank Sinatra said at the first Grammy Awards in 1959, 'Remember, the awards are about excellence, not popularity.'", Latin jazz artist Matos said.
The Recording Academy announced in April that it was slashing the number of Grammy categories to 78 from 109 for the 2012 Grammy Awards, saying the cuts were necessary to maintain "the prestige of the highest and only peer-recognized award in music."

STAY FLY WITH MEGA BANTON |
MEGA BANTON has maintained a deep affection for music as long as he can remember, born Garth Alexander Williams and grew up in city of Portmore located in St Catherine outside of the capital of Kingston. Mega Banton in his early youth would crooned the lyrics and sounds of his favorite artists such as Dennis Brown, Yellow man and Alton Ellis over his father's stereo system; he would also performed these songs at school concert, and at local neighborhood street party. Mega Banton would eventually start writing his own songs and developing his own lyrical style while attending the prestigious ST. ANDREW TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL. Mega Banton skills and reputation grew as a talented young deejay in the community. Mega Banton began performing at local stage shows which caught the attentions of veteran Deejay in the reggae industry such as RICKY GENERAL; who loved the young artist drive and ambition and decided to introduced him to the notorious reggae mogul/ producer Jack Scorpio.
While at recording sessions at the Black Scorpio labeled Mega earned a reputation for his intense delivery and provocative vocal flare. Mega swift hard-hitting lyrical delivery distinguished him from among the emerging deejays with songs that epitomized the dance hall era of the early 90s. He began to record tracks like 'GIVE IT A EASE" which is the first song he ever recorded. The song echoed the harsh reality of Jamaica lifestyle which most of the people and community lived in daily and the violence that surrounded them; his song gave hope to the massive with a positive message. In 1993 Mega Banton released his debut album, FIRST POSITION, on VP records with hit singles such as NAME A MENTION, GLAMOROUS, and SO WI STAY. The single "SOUND BOY KILLING" on the same album charted on the US BILLBOARD charts and propelled Mega Banton career to international status; which led to a record deal with SONY RECORDS and produced the album 1,000,000 MEGA WATTS in 1996.
Mega have toured extensively with the Shocking Vibes Crew such as Beenie Man, and Tanto Metro and Devonte. The popular street anthems MONEY INA MI POCKET and PON DI CORNER, revived Mega Banton status as one of Jamaica's most respected deejays in the business; these songs stayed on the Reggae charts in Jamaica and the United States for several months in 2003. Mega Banton popular underground singles such as RISE IT, GIMMI DEM and GARISON featuring Mr. Lex, have kept Mega Banton name buzzing in the streets, on the charts, in the clubs, and on top of his game in the reggae dance hall areana; The singles GIMMI DEM and GARRISON were released on Gargamel Records and produced by one of Mega Banton idol and musical inspiration Buju Banton. Mega has been limited his appearance on various Dancehall Rhythms in the last few years, as he chooses rhythms that fits his unique style, voice and swag;while he still manages to preserve his untouchable style and status which can be heard on his latest song and video "Stay Fly" on the Basik Instink Riddim by Taranchyla and dj Froggy. http://youtu.be/jD7eephQpuQ
Mega Banton has maintained a herbal and meditation vibes and following in Northern California and the Bay Area with songs such as 'I'm so High", "Fly Away" and "Get High" which he performed on the Annual Smoke Tree Tour. Mega Banton has record songs with reggae greats such as Barrington Levy, Micheal Rose, Leroy Smart, Lady Saw, Steel Pulse, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Mr. Lex, Cecile, Ricky General and Delly Ranks. Today Mega Banton still remain humble, focus and determine to take over the dancehall scene and radio waves. Weapons of Mass Connection in a City with a New Direction |
|

One Love Nutrifest | New Beginnings: Feed your Heart, Body & Spirit a Wholistic approach to wellness through workshops, demonstrations and World Beat Music
February 18, 2012 at Grand Central Park in Downtown Miami
Miami, FL (January 27, 2012) Grand Central Park, the newly landscaped grounds of the old Miami Arena comes alive with the One Love Nutrifest, a celebration of our collective souls and the magnetic energy that unites us all as a planet. This collective soul is very much alive in Miami’s ever-changing melting pot of rhythms colors and flavors. This beautiful city is the perfect metropolis to host a festival, created to highlight and promote the qualities that make us similar instead of the differences that divide us apart. The main denominators that fraction off this city’s diverse population are cultural ignorance and economic status. Therefore all of us here at Rockaz MVMT (pronounced Rockers Movement) have set out to utilize weapons of mass connection such as music and art to battle hunger, poverty, and injustice with love, rhythm, and good vibration.

It is exactly that vibration that is the main ingredient of the Reggae Sound Systems, which has broken through every possible cultural barrier to conquer the hearts of so many human beings throughout the world. It has broken chains in the name of righteous emancipation, mutated into Hip-Hop in the Bronx, Jungle in the UK, New School Dub Europe, and multiple fusion derivatives in Latin America. Reggae music has done all of the above while continuing to spread its natural mystic to every remote corner of the planet promoting a natural lifestyle along with its message of One Love.
Consequently that message along with sonic diversity are the reasons why a glowing constellation of musical stars was chosen to provide the soundtrack for the inauguration of Grand Central Park in Downtown Miami on February 18th 2012 a President’s weekend that will be remembered for years to come. The carefully hand picked line-up represents the new generation of roots and culture. This is a generation that carries on the essence of the Afro-Caribbean sonic tradition while displaying its evolutionary movements and hybridized blends. These lively recipes illustrate not only where it all comes from but also where the genetic future of this cultural treasure is headed.
It will be a unique experience whether we’re jammin’ to the rub-a-dub style revisits of The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Radiohead by the Easy Star All-Stars.

Swaying to the jazz infused roots cocktail with lyrics that center mostly on socio-political and ecological issues of Puerto Rican legends Cultura Profetica. Whether we’re vibing to the revolutionary love anthems of Chilean group Gondwana standing tall and strong in a peace-loving position of musical and lyrical creation, or the soulful energetic punch of Jahfe. Whether we are holding hands to the melodic one drop beauty of Midnite, the legendary St. Croix roots reggae group who tells us to "keep good relations" with one another, despite the corporate greed and political discord around the globe, or getting our brain twisted by the raw metaphor lyrical sculptures of Ephniko. Delivering a message of hope and patience will come from TheMessenger himself Luciano with his long awaited arrival back to the United States after many legal battles and canceled performances RockazMVMT have successfully secured his entry to perform at OneLoveNutrifest. Whatever you listen to, feel, or experience on this very special day in Miami’s history will show that all the artists chosen to represent One Love Nutrifest presentedby Rockaz MVMT are parts of this iconic bridge to unite this city’s diverse population.
Get ready to rock on to the tunes to which our rapidly growing city is dancing to. The sweet and spicy grooves oozing out of speakers in a city that has blended tropical weather and art deco. Welcome to the eruption of new high rises and a downtown steaming with interesting people walking in and out of galleries, world class murals, international cuisine centers, and a pulsating art scene. What city can really serve as a better backdrop for such an extremely rich musical movement. Now add all these ingredients together the sum equals what many people are calling “The City of The New Millennium.”
The Budweiser One Love Nutrifest is scheduled for Saturday February 18, 2012 at the brand new Grand Central Park 721 NW 1st Ave in Downtown Miami. Gates open at noon till midnight. General admission $30. Free admission between noon and 2pm.

Do You Love Reggae Music? The 19 Annual 9 Mile Music Festival is Confirmed for March 3, 2012 |
Miami, FL. The New Year has brought about a new venue for the annual Miami based Reggae music festival. This year (2012) the following artists are scheduled to perform; Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, Julian Marley, Reggae Living Legend Burning Spear, Wale, Capleton, Cocoa Tea, Tarrus Riley, Collie Buddz and New Kingston, Kevens, Djakout #1, Nu-Look, Kehv and a Special Guest Appearance by Melanie Fiona. Tickets for the event are available at www.9MileMusicFestival.com.
About The 9 Mile Music Festival: The 9 Mile Music Festival began as a labor of love, Pioneered by, Cedella Marley Booker. Over the years the festival has had other names including "The Caribbean Music Festival" finally evolving into what is known as the 9 Mile Music Festival today. This reggae music event is more than just your average "concert", it has a commitment to doing good and spreading love. The 9 Mile Music Festival is responsible for collecting over two (2) million canned goods over its 18 year span, in an effort to continuously give back to its community. Four canned goods are required for entry, along with a purchased admission; the canned goods collected are then distributed to shelters in Miami & Jamaica.
About Historic Virginia Key Beach Park:Virginia Key Beach, once accessible only by boat, was established in 1945. In 1982 the City of Miami closed the park and it remained shuttered until the Grand Re-Opening in 2008 when local citizens formed the Virginia Key Beach Park Task Force in response to plans for private development of the property. In 2002, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Come visit our beautifully renovated venues which celebrate the distinct cultural, recreational and ecological past of this tropical paradise.
The 9 Mile Music Festival has chosen this Historic location as the venue for 19th Annual 9 Mile Music Festival. This decision was made largely because this venue offers what the fans want; a bigger venue, easier parking and longer hours to enjoy the reggae music.

MLBblogger & DJ Roberto Angotti |
Inspired by the great Roberto Clemente, Roberto spent his youth in the right field pavilion of Dodger Stadium at every Pirates game to get up close to his favorite player. After Clemente's tragic death in 1972, Roberto became an avid California Angels fan following the careers of Nolan Ryan and Frank Tanana. He has seen first-hand the team's transformation into what is now known as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
A California native with a love for the state of Washington, Roberto started writing as a teenager covering Orange County high school sports for local newspapers including the La Habra Advocate. As a Film Studies student at Claremont McKenna College, he did baseball play-by-play on KSPC 88.7 FM with Jimmy "The Saint" Christopher(who later became the PA announcer at the Ballpark in Arlington for the Texas Rangers).
Writing his college thesis on reggae music, Roberto interviewed the legendary Peter Tosh and hosted the only reggae radio program on the commercial airwaves at KNAC in Long Beach. Later, Roberto would bring his "Reggae Revolution" to the World Famous KROQ 106.7 for nearly a decade before moving south to co-host a radio show with San Diego Chargers David Binn. He has since written liner notes for the likes of UB40, Sublime, Pato Banton, Tippa Irie, Macka B and Mad Professor.
Roberto is a proud father of a San Diego State University student. He currently works as a high school English teacher and an ESL instructor for the Orange County Department of Education.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call?.. |
