Louie Culture Foundation From Birth Tour April 2012

Reggae Artist Louie Culture has garnered great success in the reggae community he is Gifted but humble, diminutive yet powerful, this successful artist on the reggae music scene has dedicated his life, his heart & his soul to reggae.  Born in the lush environs of Winsor Forrest in Portland, Jamaica as Lewin Brown; Louie Culture remembers music being the focus of his attention from an early age. He involved himself at an early age in everything musical at school or in the community.  Louie Culture enrolled school choir, concerts, sound system sessions and started writing his own songs at age eleven.

Louie Culture thoroughly immersed himself in all that his community had to offer, and at age 17 he decided to moved to Kingston the heart of the reggae scene.  Louie teamed up with Panasonic Sound System, working on a nightly basis.  He became acclaim for his style of delivery and lyrics that poured in and around the country consciousness of injustice and inequality, this country boy was transformed into a spoke person for the poor to  a rankin´ Kingston DJ.  His vocals catches the attention so fame record and producer King Tubby who recorded Louie’s and Waynie Ranks’ Rat A Bad A Mi.  The song garnered wide air play and was particularly popular in the Kingston dance halls, this was the beginning of a slow but increasingly fruitful period of growth and development.

In 1992 Louie teamed up with top-ranking producers such as Dave Kelly, Colin ´Fatta’ York, Jack Scorpio, John-John (Jammy Jr.) and Bobby Digital. During these productive years, Louie Culture´s music took over the air waves and he had everyone singing along with songs like Tell Her Fi Move, O.P.P., Owner Fi De Man, Excellence, Rudie Don´t Fear, Your Name A Call, Original Look Good, Chat Dem A Chat, Live & Learn (with Wayne Wonder), clearly marking Louie Culture a performer of substance.  Combination hits followed with Shine Your Light featuring Chrisinti,Tune In with Gregory Isaac and Grab Yu Lass and Come featuring Mikey Spice.

Louie Culture has tour Japan, Europe and the United States; his tour in Japan resulted in sold-out crowds in Tokyo, Nagasaki and Osaka. His States side appearances also included a promotional tour of New York with stable mate Terror Fabulous, and yet another sold-out appearance on his first visit to St. Croix, V.I.  Recordings for Dave Kelly continued with Bogus Badge, Revolution Song, No Gal, Before Dem Young and Malfunction. The massive hit Ganga Lee cemented his name on the international scene, reaching #1 in Jamaica, New York, London, Canada and the Caribbean.  The Ganga Lee album produced by John John for VP Records in 1994 was exceedingly well received and created for Louie a huge underground following worldwide.

2004 marked the limited release of THE UPRISING on Reggae Central Records to critical acclaim but suffered from poor distribution. That wrong has been righted in 2010 with the digitally remastered release of THE UPRISING on Culture’s own Gangalee Music label, distributed by Zojak World Wide.  Alive set recorded in London is also slated for release this month – LOUIE LIVE IN LONDON - with a brand new album to follow in August.  Now fans worldwide can appreciate the tremendous growth of his lyrical creativity along with the strong vocal styles which distinguish Louie Culture as more than just a chanter, 2012 truly looks to be Louie Culture’s year to shine his light as fans can see him on the Foundation from Birth Tour 2012.  To purchase, listen or view to Louie Culture music visit http://www.reverbnation.com/louieculture & http://www.facebook.com/#!/Gangaleemuzik?sk=infoFor booking info contact Postman Ali at (510)759-1091 or Email me at knakdemout@gmail.com

The show had its UK premiere at the Hackney Empire in September 2008 and an eight-week Off-Broadway run at the Soho Playhouse in the spring of 2008.  During that time Ehrhardt received a Proclamation from the City of New York for her “Outstanding Contribution to the Jamaican Community”.  She was also a 2007 NYC Fringe Festival award-winner and has had sold out performances in Toronto, Atlanta, Santa Barbara, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Virginia, Washington D.C, San Francisco, Mexico, Bermuda and throughout the Los Angeles area. In January of 2010, Rita Wilson, producer of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, optioned the stage and screen rights for JAMAICA, FAREWELL with a full US tour of the play to open next spring.

Brina is a new voice of World Roots Reggae Music from Jamaica, an artiste steeped in the sounds and rhythms of her Jamaican culture.  Under One Sun features Jamaican legends Toots Hibbert (of Toots and the Maytals) guest vocals, and Sly Dunbar (of Sly and Robbie) on Drums.  The album credits read like a who’s who of some of Jamaica’s finest musicians, the quality of the songs and music, combined with Brina’s talent and sincerity drew many great musicians, eager to be part of this album.

Under One Sun truly represents the talent and creativity that exists in Jamaica. Descended from The Maroons, Brina’s deep connection with drums and African music is as natural as her vocal expressions of freedom and justice.  Her desire is to fuse together elements of her rich cultural and musical heritage using Reggae, Nyabinghi and other musical styles from the African diaspora; singing of justice, equality, liberation, oneness and love.  Brina's songs bring a positive healing message to the world.

Recording and production began in 2009, in the small Tribal Global Studio - built using driftwood from the Caribbean - in the mountains above Kingston. Live drums and bass were tracked at Bob Marley’s world famous Tuff Gong studio, drums with Sly Dunbar at Anchor Studios and Grafton Studio for the live horn sessions.  Memorable vocal sessions were recorded in Jamaica’s mystical Blue Mountains.  Some drum and guitar sessions were recorded in Columbia and California via internet, lending a truly global dimension to the project.  Between hurricanes, tropical storms and loud street sound systems the rest of the album was tracked at Tribal Global Studio.  Recording was completed in the summer of 2010, final mixing and mastering completed in 2011.

With Brina’s incredible and powerful voice and songs backed up by a stellar line up of musicians, Brina's iconic debut album will delight lovers of music and reggae worldwide. This album will take you on a musical journey, with the classic sounds of; Roots Rock Reggae, rocked up Nyabinghi, classic One Drop Riddims, acoustic Nyabinghi drumming and chanting with a rural Jamaican gospel style, Funky Pop, Dub, African, Latin and Brazilian grooves.  Like many classic Jamaican albums embraced by fans of myriad musical genres, this album embraces all the diverse musical influences mentioned, while effortlessly staying firmly rooted in the Reggae tradition.

Brina believes that music is a universal language crossing all borders, a powerful force that will help bring about the dream - the oneness of humanity - to millions of people around the globe.   Under One Sun will keep Roots Reggae Music with a spiritual message on the world map.  The release of this incredible album allows Brina to share her music with the world and should not be missed.

SGT Remo Is Back With New Music For 2012!

Sgt. Remo's new back-to-the-dancehall hit single "Dawtah" is now released and available for download. "The single "Dawtah" will blaze up dance floors all over this summer." (www.sgtremo.com, 2011). Sgt. Remo's smooth vocals can easily play in a dancehall session in JA or a top-40 radio station in the U.S.

This style of reggae brings back the classic dancehall of the early 90's that popularized the genre across the world. "Dawtah" was recorded in St. Petersburg, FL in December, 2011 and released by Jah Yutes Entertainment. It’s now available at all digital distributors (iTunes,Amazon MP3, CD Baby). This is the first collaboration between Sgt. Remo and Cuban producer Pedro El Artillero. El Artillero is based out of Saint Petersburg. Although this riddim is a strictly dancehall riddim, you can hear a hint of a Hispanic Caribbean flavor that makes this song a crossover over several genres.

Sgt. Remo and El Artillero also collaborated on the Serious Love Riddim release featuring Sgt. Remo’s “Feeling No Pain”. This was released as a "FREE", that's right FREE compilation album and features 12 Reggae artists from around the globe including several emerging Spanish speaking artist. Bio- Robert "Marky" Sutherland

If there is one word that best describes Reggae singer, song-writer and guitarist, Robert Sutherland, it would be ‘determined’.

A talented football player of whom great things were expected, Robert instead heeded the call of music, and in the process has richly enhancing the output of the genre called reggae.

Undaunted by obstacles which may have caused a lesser man to throw in the towel,  Robert Sutherland, over the years, has remained true to his musical vocation and has proven, as the saying goes, that failure is simply success turned inside out.

His determination has paid off and the singer, who is affectionately called Marky, is now reaping that success with a number one song in places as far flung as Australia, while enjoying acclaim in Jamaica, North America and the Caribbean.

Interestingly, Robert’s musical sojourn in the early nineties can be traced to the football field, where he had a meeting that surely must have been orchestrated by ‘fate’. A budding song-writer at that time, the young Robert’s footsteps crossed the path of the talented guitar player Steve Golding. Not one to let an opportunity slip by, Robert approached Golding to teach him the guitar, an instrument which Marky already owned.

Golding said yes and from then, the football field really became a ‘field of play’ in every sense of the word. The combination of an excellent tutor and a dedicated student meant that Robert soon became proficient and as his guitar playing skills grew, he  was able to harness his song-writing ability.

Robert and his guitar and the songs he was working con ould be heard coming from the budding songwriter in his community. Some of the works must have sounded interesting as a famous son of the area was attracted to the efforts. This son, Prilly Hamilton – former lead vocalist of the Third World Band – recorded some of the material Robert wrote with at least one, “Night Doctor”, making it into the Jamaican charts.

Robert migrated to the United States where he continued to fly the Jamaica flag high, representing reggae music in its truest, positive forms.

In 2010, Robert found the right groove with the song Times So Hard, a social lament which pierces right through to the core of the matter. Released on the Nijeri Records label, Times So Hard has claimed its space on musical charts and Robert Sutherland is certainly proving that hard work and determination is a winning combination.

Editor's Field Trip : Junior Toots in Nevada City!

Yvonne Varner - Editor Reggae Festival eGuide

Junior Toots had the house in the palm of his hand!!!

Junior Toots is pleasant, cordial and extremely polite!  This young man puts on a great show!  He surrounds himself with peaceloving folk who appreciate his spirit and goals.  My husband and I had a lovely time listening to his music and watching the aura of the room glow and grow.  I haven't been to a reggae show for some time and this was my husband's first Reggae music exposure.   My husband is hooked!!!  So glad that Junior Toots' people were so receptive to us showing up.  We now have a newfound, re-born love of Reggae.  Even though he was feeling under the weather - Junior Toots still delivered.  Had he not mentioned that he was ill - I don't think anyone would have noticed.  He put so much energy and heart into each song as he promoted his new cd, "A Little Bit of Love".  Can't wait to see him again in concert when he's up and well for it!  We have his full calendar down below in our tour dates section - go see Junior Toots!

New CDs in the Mix

Junior Toots :: A Little Bit of Love

Following in the tradition of his father, Jamaican born Junior Toots, son of Toots Hibbert of the Toots and the Maytals, released his nationally distributed album, A Little Bit of Love in March. Incorporating Roots-Reggae, Ska, Dancehall, and up tempo beats, Junior Toots coined his sound "original roots."

In keeping with the Reggae tradition, A Little Bit of Love is conscious both lyrically & sonically. Take the track "Puss and Dog" an up-tempo Ska track that talks about staying skillful as a cat, so "you do not end up in the dog house," quips Junior. "If trouble comes your way, sometimes you have to turn away to preserve the peace."

On "Physically Spiritually", Junior sings about the interconnectedness of all humans, no matter what race, color, creed, or religious denomination. "We need to encourage each other to do well and to stay healthy, mentally, physically, and spiritually," explains Junior Toots.

A lot of artists throw around the word conscious, but Junior takes the word seriously. "When I say conscious music, I mean my lyrics are aware of the needs of everyone: The need to be connected to nature & to other cultures besides your own. I hope my music encourages people to put away their egos & make intentions to heal, to love, and to care. Conscious means to come together".

A Little Bit of Love can be previewed & purchased on iTunes and from Junior Toots' official website: www.JuniorToots.com

Keera Rootz :: Sweet Rub a Dub

HIGH PRIEST Records would like to formally present to you KEERA ROOTZ’ EP – Sweet Rub A Dub. Experience just less than 20 minutes of the songstress who made waves with her first single ‘Sweet Rub A Dub’ – title track for the EP.

Keera Rootz born Keera Williams, hails from the parish of St. Catherine in Jamaica and possesses a golden voice.  Her music addresses issues such as love, struggle and spirituality. She does not believe in the hype and fanfare but rather in the solid foundation of truths and rights, as this EP so aptly captures.

Keera Rootz’ musical tastes include the works of greats such as Marcia Griffiths, Deniece Williams, Chante’ Moore and Luciano; and she looks forward to adding to this rich musical heritage, her own fresh new sound and melody-filled messages. Keera Rootz was born Keera Williams in St. Catherine Jamaica. Though she has always loved music, she has been a fan more than she as been an artist. Her first time in front of an audience was in Dec 2008 when she performed at an office party, sharing the stage with LUST. She was rewarded with resounding applause and was subsequently bitten by the performance bug.

The album is for free and can downloaded from the merchandise section of the High Priest Records website, the address -http://highpriestrecords.weebly.com/merchandise.html

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call?..
