Dub Nation Long Awaited Record Release |

Reggae aficionados will travel with delight on the new trail blazed by Dub Nation’s long-awaited third album, Rising Force for Change. Producer, bassist and Dub Nation mainstay Frank "Fantom” Caruso has set forth on an innovative path mixing elements of soul, jazz, hip-hop, rock and even big band, with traditional roots reggae rhythms. Caruso’s time with Motown legends The Temptations resulted in joining forces with Spinners and Temptations’ leading voice GC Cameron and Guadeloupe native Tatiana Miath, a world-class female vocal talent heralded in Europe and the Caribbean.
GC’s 1970s Motown hits It’s a Shame and It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday are re-created in a fresh and powerful style coined “Reggae-Soul,” and are lovingly ornamented with Tatiana’s sweet harmonies and a veritable orchestra of master musicians including many San Francisco Bay area Dub Nation veterans such as original lead vocalist Paul “Fish” Dawson, who provides a colorful accent to the vocal trio. Rising Force for Change never relents from its inspirational prelude to the tasty dub mix conclusion: a judicious blend of rock, soul and reggae.
Dub Nation returns to Festival stages this summer supporting the release of its long-awaited album Rising Force for Change, and renews its musical vows after a lengthy hiatus.

Reggae in The Park
Philly's Premiere Summer Reggae Festival |

Philadelphia, PA, - The much-anticipated Philly's Premiere Summer Reggae Festival was announced today and brings together a group of legendary reggae artists featuring headliners Jimmy Cliff and Beres Hammond. Scheduled for Sunday, June 10th at The Mann, the festival brings the Delaware Valley community together for an all-day family fun-filled event at the onset of the summer season.
"Reggae in The Park", appropriately named for its location in the heart of Fairmount Park, features two stages of music, DJ/Soundsystem (a live DJ set area at the top of the hill where the best of the local reggae DJ's will be spinning all day), arts and craft vendors, Global and Caribbean Food Village and much more. The main stage will feature reggae icons, Jimmy Cliff, Beres Hammond and Luciano along with U.S. based roots rock reggae bands such as Trevor Hall.
"We are very excited to finally make this festival a reality. This is an event for the entire family", stated co-promoter Jamaican Dave. "It is so fitting that Philly's Premiere Reggae Festival is being launched as Jamaica celebrates its 50th Anniversary".
Headliners - Main Stage
The Honourable Jimmy Cliff, the only living musician honored with Jamaica's Order of Merit and a 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, with a legacy stretching back nearly 50 years headlines the event. Cliff still stands as one of the prime movers and continuing shapers of modern music. He remains a forceful voice of power and conscience, creating new music as vital and vibrant as ever.
Over the course of a 30 year career, Beres Hammond has poured his smoky-sweet voice, an instrument of subtlety and power reminiscent of an Otis Redding or a Teddy Prendergast, over every kind of riddim track. Beres sophisticated musical taste is well suited to translate easily across cultural divides, yet the international reggae massive has remained his most loyal fan base.
Luciano emerged as one of the most important reggae singers in decades and the greatest hope for roots reggae's survival in the digital dancehall era. Since 1995, his music has been consistently praised for imparting sentiments of spiritual salvation, Rastafarian edification and African repatriation. These positive lyrical themes have justifiably earned him the title of "The Messenger".
U.S.based roots, rock, reggae bands, The Movement and Trevor Hall round out the talent on the main stage. The Plaza Stage and the DJ/Soundsystem will host the best of the areas local reggae bands and disc jockeys respectively. Festival doors open at 12:30pm, show at 1:30pm.
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com, 800-745-3000, TicketPhiladelphia.org, 215-893-1999 or The Mann Box Office.

Today's Global "Occupy This Album" Release Summons
The Ages For A Cause That's Familiar Territory for
Taj Weekes & Adawa |
NEW YORK –Today’s release of “Occupy This Album” may evoke memories for those who witnessed the social movements of the 1960s, but the 99-track, star-studded compilation (on sale now for $9.99) tells a story with deeper meaning and broader relevance. And who better to tell that story than the album’s iconic contributors, including Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, Crosby & Nash, Debbie Harry and Willie Nelson? Joining them in this effort are St. Lucian musican/poet Taj Weekes and his band Adowa, whose contribution, “Against the Machine,” (lyrics: http://www.facebook.com/tajandadowa) underscores the Occupy movement with age-old reggae rhythm and hard-truth lyrics about mankind’s struggle to be heard in the face of mockery and ambivalence.
Protest and defiance are the cornerstones of Taj Weekes & Adowa’s artistry, and “Occupy This Album” represents music that these self-described “town criers” have delivered to the masses for years. "Participating in this effort was a no-brainer for us,” Weekes said. “I am tempted to say the occupiers finally caught up with us, for we had been chanting this message for some time now…but it’s wonderful, seriously, to find like-minded people sounding the alarm about our current plight. For the first time in my life, ‘occupy’ means something good." Weekes and the album's contributors aim to preserve a legacy of grassroots-level activism, Woody Guthrie style, and resurrect the spirit of social change that has all but died over the past 50 years.
Shirley Menard, one of the album’s producers and manager for Taj Weekes, said, "The artists who contributed to this effort speak for the nameless, faceless people who seek justice and economic equality for us all. The occupiers’ chants are not taglines. They speak the truth, which is what Taj Weekes and Adowa strive for in everything they do.” Brutally honest music arose from the strife and struggle of 1960s America, but today’s album release bears even greater significance because, while the music (an assortment of old anthems and new works) remains true to old-school intent and purposes, the artists amplify the voices of the 99% and stake their claim of support for a worldwide Occupy movement. The proceeds from the sale of this album, a four disc compilation, go directly to support Occupy Wall Street Movements across the country.
“Occupy This Album”is available on iTunes today!

Zvuloon Dub System, "Freedom Time"
Debut Album is out now! |

Link to download the album:
http://alturl.com/ww75p
We are excited to announce our debut album, Freedom Time, is out.
Roger Steffens, Founding Chairman, Reggae Grammy Committee, wrote about the new album:
"Zvuloon Dub System demonstrates conclusively why they are Israel's top reggae band, proving great roots music today finds some of its finest expressions outside its Jamaican homeland. Touching on many of the major themes of conscious reggae with authentic rhythms and tasty lead vocals, Zvuloon deserves a wide international audience."
Zvuloon Dub System emerges from a multicultural middle-eastern music scene. Adopting their name from one of the twelve tribes of Israel, the band was formed in 2006 by the Smilan brothers.
They shared the same passion for roots reggae and dub, with influences from a variety of music styles, like Ethiopian jazz and rare grooves from the 70’s, American soul, funk and jazz, alongside with Israeli mizrahi (Mediterranean) music. Similarly to the major producers of reggae, like Lee Perry and King Tubby, the band is also keen on creating not just their own music but their own sound. All their tracks are produced, recorded and mixed in the band's home studio, presenting a unique blend of a rich cultural heritage, which can be heard in the debut album, "Freedom Time".
The album released on April 2012 under the band’s independent label, Med.Tone Records.
It consists of 10 previously unreleased original songs written and composed by the band, a groovy reggae version of Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix and "Nah Give Up" - collaboration with top Jamaican artist Ranking Joe.
The album reflects the band's vision of contemporary roots reggae and dub.
As of today our album is available in both digital version and on CD. The vinyl version is expected to be released this summer.
While the album has a laid back and soulful vibe to it, the live performance presents the more energetic side of the band, with a special sound that developed during years of live performance.
The band achieved great success in the reggae scene, but also amongst many music lovers from other genres.
Later this year, the band is planning to release a series of new songs featuring some of the top reggae artists such as Ranking Joe, Milton Blake and more, and an EP with an exciting fusion of reggae and Ethiopian music from the golden age of the 70s.
Following the release of our first album, the band is planning a tour in Europe in the summer of 2012.
Zvuloon Dub System is an 8 piece band with some of the best Israeli underground musicians.
The lead singer, Gili Yalo, who was born in Ethiopia, walked through the desert at the age 4 on an exhausting journey with his family to the promised land - Israel.
Going through dramatic and extreme situations, he sang all the way to his beloved, and from that moment Gili's parents knew he was going to be a singer.
Zvuloon Dub System are:
Gil Yalo – vocals, Omri Abramov – tenor sax, Inon Peretz – trumpet, Ilan Smilan – guitars, Simon Nahum – rhythm guitar, Lior Romano – keyboards and melodica, Tal Markus – bass / backing vocals, Asaf Smilan – drums and percussions
The album available as a digital download / CD by Mail order from: www.zvuloondubsystem.bandcamp.com - This also includes free digital download. And from: www.cdbaby.com/cd/zvuloondubsystem

New Record "Reggae Music Lives" Available Now on iTunes. |

Atlanta, GA, April 23, 2012 With a mission to heal the world through music, Soul Train Award nominee, Gramps Morgan unleashes his second, solo, album Reggae Music Lives tomorrow (April 24th) on iTunes, independently, on his Dada Son Entertainment label. A musical therapy of sorts, Reggae Music Lives is filled with angelic harmonies, authentic compositions and a unique sound brand, Gramps calls "Rockaz". Reggae Music Lives is more than Reggae; it's world-beat, with a little bit of country, a taste of what Americans call rap-Jamaicans call it toasting; mix it with a hint of r 'n' b, a dash of blues synthesized with contemporary reggae that maintains the integrity of the original art form and you get a sense of the musical accents that help to make Reggae Music Livescomplete.
After two years in the making, Reggae Music Lives arrives with inspiration, healing and Gramps' determination to make positive changes in the world. The album's first single 'The Almighty' topped the charts in Jamaica, South Florida and New York while 'Life Too Short', released on March 28th, advanced in the fight for justice in the case of Trayvon Martin. Consequently, team Dada Son decided to donate part of the sale proceeds to the family of the slain Florida teenager. The song has since been added to the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation website (http://justicetm.org/tributes/) where he is listed as an "Official Donor" for his commitment.
Meanwhile, Mark Brantley, Senior Lawyer and Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament of St. Kitts and Nevis says: "There is no voice in reggae music today as distinctive as that of Gramps Morgan. His sophomore album reminds us of the deeply spiritual roots of reggae music. Gramps' ability to make music with a global appeal which touches the human spirit and soothes the soul has been taken to new heights in his latest release. I believe that this new effort by this Grammy award winning artist will be a major hit with lovers of conscious reggae music the world over. But don't take my word for it. Pick up a copy, put your feet up and let the music wash over you."
|
One of the most promising tracks on the album, DREAM, is as inspiring as it is universal, in message and in sound. When Gramps sings "...celebrate wherever you are, keep on striving for your dream, just lift your head high, let your spirit fly, dream away..." one is reminded to persevere; the song offers hope and is that motivator everyone needs.
Reggae Music Lives is about the preservation of art, music and culture and Gramps wants the world to know that "Reggae music is here to stay."

Bruno Mars Just the Way You Are (Reggae Cover Jimi D)
Video Link: http://youtu.be/dwh2LKsGAVM
When VP Records heard Jimi D’s rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are”, they could not resist licensing the song and adding it to their compilation. The one-drop beat undoubtedly transformed the pop hit sensation, garnering almost quarter of a million Youtube hits (collectively) in a few months of it’s release.
Jimi D (Christopher Chambers), with his distinctly smooth, soothing voice, has been the background vocalist who has helped to elevated many successful musicians to another level in their careers. Born August 25, in Kingston, Jamaica, music was always a natural part of Jimi D’s upbringing. As a child, his uncle, legendary reggae artist, Don Carlos, would frequently encourage him to sing “Dancing on the Ceiling” by Lionel Richie. Although this irritated Jimi D, his mannerly upbringing would not allow him to complain. Instead, he willingly complied with his uncle’s wishes, not knowing he was secretly exploring his artistic abilities.
Jimi D’s childhood desire was to become a doctor, but this desire eventually became overshadowed by his innate musical abilities. At the age of twelve, Jimi D and his friend’s, Marquis Henry and Jervell Creory, formed a group. Their first song, composed by Jimi D, entitled “Baby” was a hit amongst their peers. Yet the opportunity to launch his musical career did not manifest itself. Still, he remained fervent to his dreams, constantly rehearsing and writing.
Whilst a part of a group called BKS, Jimi D came close to being signed to Def Jam Records. But the group lacked maturity and did not succeed. After years of singing background vocals and gaining a deeper respect for the music industry, the opportune time presented itself to launch his long awaited solo career under the artiste name, Jimi D, with the assistance of his uncle, Don Carlo, who equipped him with the skills and network he needed.
To date Jimi D has shared the stage with well-known artists such as Freddie McGregor, Eeka Mouse, Andrew Tosh, Marcia Griffiths, Gregory Isaacs and Shaddon Tucker to name just a few. In 2012 Jimi will embark on a US tour to promote his forthcoming single releases, which is expected to have collaborations with well-known Jamaican artistes. Jimi D is also preparing for the launch of his untitled debut album, something he hopes will reflect not only his authentic Jamaican origins, but also incorporate some elements of music that has influenced him over the years such as pop and R&B.
