ACCOIN Board Elections coming

It is time for your Board Elections. As a membership organization, you choose who represents you. As you may or may not know, our board members must be from a majority of family members - either parents, survivors, or extended family members.

The philosophy is that we will always have our finger on the pulse of childhood cancer because those who have had first hand experience will shape our programs.

We also have a need for qualified community members who can lend expertise and wish to support kids with cancer.

Our Summer Party is our annual membership meeting and final ballots will be collected there. Watch for more information.

If you are interested in serving on the board or know of a qualified candidate, please contact Board President, Lori Rodriguez at Lori@accoinlandnw.org.

In Loving Memory

Our hearts and prayers go out to all families struggling with the loss of their child.

Sadly we said goodbye to 10 year old Kelsey Grant. Kelsey was diagnosed with an astrocytoma in 2007. Kelsey loved butterflys and will be missed by everyone who knew her. We send our love to Jason, Brandi, Randee, and Aaron as their family learns a new way to be in the world without their beloved Kelsey.

We also say goodbye to Jaylien Santoyo. Jaylein would have been one year old next month. She was diagnosed in December of 2011 with a rhabdoid tumor. Our deepest sympathies go out to Karina, Victor, and Joshua.

We will be having a lunch for bereaved parents on June 30th. Watch for an invitation in the next few days. Response will determine where we meet but are considering the Davenport Tower Safari Room private dining room.

August 17 - 19  Grieving in Plain Sight

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to American Childhood Cancer Org Inland NW and Make-A-Wish. We will also have an information table at the event. If you would like to submit a memorial for our newsletter for your child, please email mruddis@accoinlandnw.org

Summer Party is July 28

Invitations for our annual Summer Party will be out soon. This year we will be having a Picnic in the Park at Browns Park in the Spokane Valley.

Invitations will be sent out in early July with all the fun details.

We have great food from Texas Roadhouse lined up, face painting, motorcycle side-car rides, and lots more to come.

The summer party is also our annual membership meeting. We hope you can attend and lend your voice to choosing our next board members.

3rd Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk

August 25 will be here before you know it. Save the date, watch for more details, and get your walking shoes ready to make a difference! We will be celebrating afterwards again this year with music, a picnic and lots of surprises.

Let's come together and put a face to kids with cancer.

Rare? Hah!

If all of our members showed up, the community would see that childhood cancer is more prevalent in our own backyard than most imagine. Let's do it.

We have lots planned and will have more information at our Summer Party on July 28.

We are very pleased to announce that we will have the Blood mobile at the walk because we literally want your blood and your family, friends, and co-workers! Kids with cancer use A LOT of blood products and this seemed the perfect place to educate and encourage the community to give this most fragile of resouces.

Bring your kids, families, friends, co-workers and let's put a face to local kids with cancer and bring the community together to support them! If you would like to help with planning, please call 509-443-4162

Recipe Corner

Here's a recipe of a different kind. We made environmentally friendly cleaning products at our last parent support group and they were a big hit.

All-Purpose Cleaner - easy and inexpensive to make.

What you need:

 2 tablespoons white vinegar

1 teaspoon borax

1/4 cup liquid castile soap

16-ounce spray bottle

Easy to mix:

Add white vinegar ad borax. Fill the rest of the spray bottle with water and shake to blend until the borax is dissolved. Add liquid castile soap only after you've completed the above steps (to avoid suds).

If you have a favorite recipe that nourished your family during stressful times, please send it (with a picture if available) to office@accoinlandnw.org.
