Red Fest is an all ages outdoor music event designed to promote quality music and fun in beautiful Red River, NM.
In it’s third year, Red Fest Musical Festival presents:
The Wailers - Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. Outside of their groundbreaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe.
Hieroglyphics - Founded in 1997 in Oakland, CA, Hiero Imperium Records is Del The Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, and the Souls of Mischief, made up of A-Plus, Opio, Phesto and Tajai. Coming off waves of success from earlier releases like Souls' '93 Til Infinity, the Hiero crew had already established themselves as a name in underground hip-hop, and soon released their first
collective project Third Eye Vision. Since then the Hiero team has been thriving in the hip-hop world, releasing a number of projects within the label as well as branching out for collaborations with the likes of Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit and Gorillaz.
Vokab Kompany - San Diego band Vokab Kompany (Voted San Diego Music Awards “Best Hip Hop” act 2011) has been gaining national notoriety based on the success of their song “So Bright” and it’s appearance in international car company KIA with their 2010 Summer Sales Event Commercial and on The Today Show with Al Roker. The success continued into 2011 with another national Southern Comfort Fiery Pepper commercial, collaborating on the single “Burn It Down” with fellow bandmate; saxophonist, Jesse Malloy, and his production duo Crush Effect.
Nosotros - Seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with the elements of Flamenco, Jazz, Salsa, and Rock, creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. But M.E. Schenck of Hyperactive Music Magazine may have interpreted their sound best by saying “Nosotros’ music is not to be explained, it is to be felt in the pit of our souls.”
James and the Devil - Your All-Original Rocky Mountain grown Hiphopfiddle’n Funk Rock Band.. Delivering powerful, melodic high energy driven shows in the Rocky Mountain region of the USA.

Matisyahu with The Dirty Heads and special guest Pacific Dub LIVE at MontBleu Casino Resort Thursday,
September 27, 2012 |
LAKE TAHOE, NV – MontBleu Resort and PR Entertainment presents Matisyahu w/ The Dirty Heads, and with special guest, Pacific Dub, Thursday, September 27, 2012, inside the MontBleu Casino Resort in Lake Tahoe, NV. General admission tickets will be available for $39.50 by calling MontBleu, 775-588-3515, at the Box Office, or online at www.ticketmaster.com
Since first emerging on the international stage in 2005, Matisyahu has established a reputation for following his muse—from the stripped-down roots reggae of the gold-certified Live at Stubb’s to the trippy ministrations of Youth to the polished pop eclecticism of Light. Then, in 2010, he returned to the venerable Austin venue that introduced him for Live at Stubb’s II, demonstrating that all those travels had somehow only strengthened his connection to his musical bedrock. It was a whirlwind half-decade journey, one that earned Matisyahu a place in pop culture at large.
And it was only the beginning…..Now based with his family in Los Angeles, Matisyahu blasts off yet again with Spark Seeker, a bold new studio album that finds the one-of-a-kind vocalist and songwriter exploring uncharted territory with help from an expansive cast of collaborators. “My musical tastes are all over the board,” he says in reference to a record that mixes ancient traditional sounds with futuristic electro beats, rapping with singing, songs of the spirit with songs of the body. “And, besides, my music has never been about the outer garment. It’s about searching out inspiration wherever it lies. This album is about seeking that spark within.”
Outer garments, of course, long defined Matisyahu in the eyes of many. “I was the Hasidic reggae superstar,” he says with a knowing laugh. So when Matisyahu took to Twitter late last year to post a picture of himself with his new look, he did it with a certain amount of relief. “It just felt good to sort of restart everything,” he says, adding that the transformation actualized one of the central themes of Spark Seeker: the impermanence of the physical form. “The spark seeker digs for truth and meaning and is willing to let go of everything to find it. He’s honest and authentic with himself and lives life from the inside out. He creates music from the depths and doesn’t worry about what category it or he fits into.”
“We live in a world where people tend to think in extremes and categorize with ultimate statements,” Matisyahu says. “While it’s true that at one point it would’ve been pretty accurate to describe me as Hasidic reggae, for most of my career my music has been a blend, a mixture.”
For Spark Seeker—not just a collection of random tracks, but a complete piece of work made with one producer—Matisyahu spent a year recording with Koool Kojak (Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker, Ke$ha) at the latter’s home studio in L.A. Then the pair went to Israel with an open slate. “We booked a studio there and invited various friends and musicians—including Zohar Fresco, Daniel Zamir, Ravid Kahalani and rapper Shyne—to come and simply play music,” Matisyahu says. “We began to blend all of this live instrumentation to create a unique record, made by multi-faceted human beings who have many sides and many sources of inspiration.”
The result reflects that wide array of voices and experiences. In the hard-hitting “Warrior” Matisyahu describes feelings of frustration and desperation, while lead single “Sunshine” rides what might be the most uplifting groove in his catalog; elsewhere, “Searchin’” pairs a gritty digital-dancehall beat with chanted lyrics and “I Believe in Love” exemplifies the album’s deep melodic streak. Throughout Spark Seeker you can hear Matisyahu embodying the album’s title—and embracing its humble promise. The album has a depth to it as well as a lightness, which alludes to the most essential theme of the record--that everything in life, especially music, exists in mixtures and blends. “Things are not as black and white as we would like to think. Not everything can be oversimplified," says Matisyahu.
“This is definitely pushing the boundaries of what I’ve done before,” he acknowledges. “It’s a new kind of record for me.” At this point we’d expect nothing less.
On tour with Matisyahu is The Dirty Heads, a Reggae rock band from Southern California with a melodic style that includes hip hop and punk genres. Their debut album, Any Port in a Storm, was released on September 23, 2008, by Executive Music Group. The group is perhaps one of the most prominent groups in a sub-genre of reggae, which is heavily influenced by the original incarnation of Sublime. The group first came into prominence within the rock/reggae scene when their song "Ring the Alarm" was chosen as the first song on the very first Pier Sampler, an offering of free songs that is available for a limited time four times yearly. The band started out touring heavily in California, Arizona, and some parts of Mexico before it became a national touring act. The Dirty Heads have toured the U.S. multiple times with bands such as O.A.R., 311, Pepper, Kottonmouth Kings, Unwritten Laand Sublime with Rome. The band has also been part of marketing campaigns for Etnies Jeans, Rag Dynasty Shirts and Vestal Watches. The Dirty Heads were among the first bands featured on YouTube's "RAWsession". The set included a cover of Coldplay’s "Viva La Vida”.
Opening the show is Pacific Dub, one of the youngest and newest bands to solidify themselves as professionals within the Reggae-Rock scene.
Doors open at 7:00p, show starts at 8:00p. Tickets are $39.50, and available at all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the MontBleu Box Office, or online www.ticketmaster.com. You can also purchase by phone by calling MontBleu Resort, 775-588-3515. This is an all ages event.

Asfa Hits the Charts in Jamaica |
New kid on the block Asfa is making waves with the latest entry on the Jamaican Top 25 Reggae Charts. His second single Not The Life came in at number 23 and is steadily climbing up the survey.
The singer grew up in Bedward Gardens in a small community known as Dread Heights and since debuting with the single Mother I in March of this year has been building a following ever since. After introducing himself with his first song which he did as a special tribute to his late mom the artist answered the call of his fans for a follow up. The result is Not The LIfe. The song is done on a bouncy one drop called the Question Riddim and the theme is a cry from the oppressed due to exploitation by financial institutions. In it he sings "This is not the life for me, tired of living in misery, too much " corporatocracy", " which rings familiar in this age of rising national debt which is often times shouldered by the very poor. The song is receiving heavy rotation on radio and the video has just been added to the Hype TV playlist. Asfa's growing legion of fans can also support his efforts by buying the song as it is available on all major online stores.
Asfa, since launching his career has made promotional appearances on Hype TVs Up and Live and was interviewed on Richie Bs radio show on Hot 102 FM. The song is also Top 5 on The Bess FM Culture Chart. The infectious composition has also not escaped the attention of many radio programmers all over the world and is a staple on reggae stations especially in Australia ,The UK and Germany.
The jovial and easy going artist is no newcomer to the business as he began this musical journey in the early 90s as a selector on Travelers Disco and also made his first steps as an artist opening shows for Judy Mowatt . At the beginning of the next decade he toured with Sugar Minott and Little John in Switzerland and Germany as their dj. The music took a back seat when he migrated to the US where he eventually settled in Jacksonville Florida. However after a number of years out of the scene he is now organized and moving full speed ahead. With a voice that has a unique sound and is easily identifiable , many have commented in social media circles that talent such as his " is a welcome change". Asfa is a pure singer in the tradition of artist such as Luciano and Garnett Silk and aims to live up to the standard of his forbearers.
Working with manager and ex-manager of Natural Black Roger Grant, the artist is optimistic about his future in the business and believes Not The Life will bring him the initial exposure that he needs. At the same time he is wasting no time in readying his debut album titled "Journeying" which he hopes to release on his own label Jecoliah Entertainment Production by years end.

FURI to Host 10th Anniversary Dinner Dance and Awards Gala - Because Hope is a Renewable Resource |
Brooklyn, N.Y., September 5th ... The Board of Directors of the Family Unification Resettlement Initiative (FURI) has announced plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 501 (C) (3) organization with a grand gala where they will recognize key individuals who have contributed to the organization's growth. The proceedings will include a keynote presentation by noted anthropologist and radio host, Dr. Kingsley "Ragashanti" Stewart and proceeds from the auspicious affair slated for Saturday, October 6th at the Tropical Paradise Ballroom, 1367 Utica Avenue in Brooklyn from 8pm to 1am will benefit the organization's effort to help displaced persons plan for a better tomorrow.
FURI was founded by Jamaican born Forensic Social Worker, Carmeta Albarus, author of "The Making of Lee Boyd Malvo," (the D.C. Sniper) because of concern about the impact of deportation on Jamaican nationals as well as the impact that displaced persons have on the nation's development. Seeing a need for services that could help some of her clients adjust positively to deportation, FURI collaborates with other service agencies in Jamaica to accomplish its objectives. "Since 2002, FURI has been fortifying deported persons with alternatives that foster faith, hope and confidence that life can be worthwhile while providing assistance in their reintegration," says Carmeta. Hope is a renewable resource, and FURI has been a lifeline to many for whom deportation is a source of great shame. For a decade Carmeta and her team, several of whom are themselves deported persons, have worked towards assisting these individuals and contributing to the development of their home country and the FURI office in Kingston is a place of refuge for many.

Reggae Festival Seeks Foothold in West Palm Beach |
By Scott Eyman
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
WEST PALM BEACH — Roots Revolution was rocking out at the inaugural Summer Jam at Meyer Amphitheatre, but there weren’t a lot of people to enjoy it. The band had been scheduled to go on at 12:45 Monday and actually started at 1:45. But they’re from Kingston, Jamaica, so you have to make allowances for Island Time.
Punctual or late, there were still only about 140 people in the park to listen.
“People don’t come out till late, because it’s so hot,” said Jodi Kavne of Music Jam Productions, the company promoting the reggae event.
Actually, the temperature was forecast to be 87, there was a strong ocean breeze off the ocean, and the only clouds were far over the water. In a word, perfection.
The cover charge was $30 a day or $50 for both days, for 13 bands, culminating in Monday night’s bill of Ky-Mani Marley, Shaggy and Toots and the Maytals.
Peter Scanlon came out to see Shaggy and was having a great time, although, like evrybody else, he wondered where everybody was. “I figured it would be packed,” he said.
Unlike the audience, the vendors weren’t having a great time. There were Breezy Living Screen Doors, Wonderland Tobacco and Gifts and Glass Pipes, among others. Cumulatively, they were selling Bob Marley the way Cuba sells Che Guevara.

The Weather Held Steady for the Newport Waterfront Reggae Festival |
The sun was just starting to come out from behind the clouds when we arrived at the Newport Waterfront Reggae festival that afternoon and the show had been going strong for several hours. Huge throngs of people were milling around the concrete, eating, drinking, and enjoying the warm weather. The sounds of Bushman were being pumped through the speakers and after making our way through the huge white tent in the corner of the grounds, we found the stage and the crowd gathered around it. Bushman was going strong and the crowd seemed to be groovin’ right along with him, though for the sake of accuracy, the amount of Red Stripe that promoters had stocked up on for the sake of thematic precision would let these fest-goers groove with most things. As we wandered around the summer-y little town of Newport, it was hard not to notice the wide variety of people who had come out to hear some music. Families were everywhere with little children in tow, a handful of older Rastas had congregated along the side of the side of the street sporting the reddest eyes I think I’ve ever seen. People of all ages sprawled along the pavement waiting for the next act, Junior Marvin of the famed Wailers. In the mean time we passed the minutes by counting the number of white 20-somethings we saw wearing Bob Marley t-shirts. I think I lost count somewhere in the thirties.

Counter Culture Brings Ideal Variety to Sacramento, California Reggae Festival |
If Sacramento Reggae festival fans were looking for something a wee bit different but still packed with Reggae roots goodness, Counter Culture would have fulfilled their demands to the utmost. The band was newly formed about a year ago with young California musicians who discovered a harmonious blend of personality and talent as they came together to create Counter Culture. The original band members consist of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumental talent Ryan Lee, drummer Scotty Bohm, bassist Mike Gil, vocals and guitar Joe Endoso and additional musicians Will Rushton and Patrick Dwyer.
Counter Culture appeared on the Labor Day weekend Sacramento Reggae Festival stage at Rio Ramaza Marina park on Sunday, September 2, 2012. They had an early performance around 2:00 p.m., causing the larger evening crowds to miss their contribution to the Reggae line up of incredible talent. Their sound has been compared to "artists such as Sublime, Rebelution and Iration" as they blend influences from roots, island and dance-hall reggae, ska, dub, rock, punk and hip-hop. Whatever their unique style or however it might be categorized, it is sure to make its mark in the Reggae and general music world.

Bob Marley Day Declared in Los Angeles |

By Phyllis Pollack
The City Council declared Tuesday as “Bob Marley Day” in Los Angeles this morning at a ceremony held in downtown Los Angleles at City Hall. The proclamation honoring the iconic reggae singer was accepted by his daughter Karen Marley, and his oldest son, five-time Grammy Award winner Ziggy Marley.
Born as Robert Nesta (Bob) Marley in 1945, the singer, songwriter, guitarist and activist's music catapulted awareness of reggae music to an international audience. His single-handed influence on music can not be underestimated.

Marley
Many artists have covered his songs, most famously, Eric Clapton's 1974 remake of Bob Marley and the Wailers' “I Shot the Sheriff." It was later covered by rap artist Warren G. The late Joe Strummer of The Clash paired up with the late Johnny Cash for a rendition of "Redemption Song." An endless list of artist of other genres have been influenced by Marley's music, including No Doubt and most recently Snoop Dogg, who recently changed his name to Snoop Lion. A documentary film about Snoop Dogg's conversion to the Rastafarian religion and his admiration for Bob Marley will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call... |
