Matisyahu w/ The Dirty Heads and special guest Pacific Dub LIVE at MontBleu Casino Resort Thursday,

September 27, 2012

LAKE TAHOE, NV – MontBleu Resort and PR Entertainment presents Matisyahu w/ The Dirty Heads, and with special guest, Pacific Dub, Thursday, September 27, 2012, inside the MontBleu Casino Resort in Lake Tahoe, NV. General admission tickets will be available for $39.50 by calling MontBleu, 775-588-3515, at the Box Office, or online at www.ticketmaster.com

Since first emerging on the international stage in 2005, Matisyahu has established a reputation for following his muse—from the stripped-down roots reggae of the gold-certified Live at Stubb’s to the trippy ministrations of Youth to the polished pop eclecticism of Light. Then, in 2010, he returned to the venerable Austin venue that introduced him for Live at Stubb’s II, demonstrating that all those travels had somehow only strengthened his connection to his musical bedrock. It was a whirlwind half-decade journey, one that earned Matisyahu a place in pop culture at large.

On tour with Matisyahu is The Dirty Heads, a Reggae rock band from Southern California with a melodic style that includes hip hop and punk genres. Their debut album, Any Port in a Storm, was released on September 23, 2008, by Executive Music Group. The group is perhaps one of the most prominent groups in a sub-genre of reggae, which is heavily influenced by the original incarnation of Sublime. The group first came into prominence within the rock/reggae scene when their song "Ring the Alarm" was chosen as the first song on the very first Pier Sampler, an offering of free songs that is available for a limited time four times yearly.  The band started out touring heavily in California, Arizona, and some parts of Mexico before it became a national touring act. The Dirty Heads have toured the U.S. multiple times with bands such as O.A.R., 311, Pepper, Kottonmouth Kings, Unwritten Laand Sublime with Rome. The band has also been part of marketing campaigns for Etnies Jeans, Rag Dynasty Shirts and Vestal Watches. The Dirty Heads were among the first bands featured on YouTube's "RAWsession". The set included a cover of Coldplay’s "Viva La Vida”.  Opening the show is Pacific Dub, one of the youngest and newest bands to solidify themselves as professionals within the Reggae-Rock scene.

Doors open at 7:00p, show starts at 8:00p. Tickets are $39.50, and available at all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the MontBleu Box Office, or online www.ticketmaster.com. You can also purchase by phone by calling MontBleu Resort, 775-588-3515. This is an all ages event.

Asfa Hits the Charts in Jamaica

New kid on the block Asfa is making waves with the latest entry on the Jamaican Top 25 Reggae Charts. His second singleNot The Life came in at number 23 and is steadily climbing up the survey.

The singer grew up in Bedward Gardens in a small community known as Dread Heights and since debuting with the singleMother I in March of this year has been building a following ever since. After introducing himself with his first song which he did as a special tribute to his late mom the artist answered the call of his fans for a follow up. The result is Not The LIfe. The song is done on a bouncy one drop called the Question Riddim and the theme is a cry from the oppressed due to exploitation by financial institutions. In it he sings "This is not the life for me, tired of living in misery, too much " corporatocracy", " which rings familiar in this age of rising national debt which is often times shouldered by the very poor. The song is receiving heavy rotation on radio and the video has just been added to the Hype TV playlist. Asfa's growing legion of fans can also support his efforts by buying the song as it is available on all major online stores.

Asfa, since launching his career has made promotional appearances on Hype TVs Up and Live and was interviewed on Richie Bs radio show on Hot 102 FM. The song is also Top 5 on The Bess FM Culture Chart. The infectious composition has also not escaped the attention of many radio programmers all over the world and is a staple on reggae stations especially in Australia ,The UK and Germany.

The jovial and easy going artist is no newcomer to the business as he began this musical journey in the early 90s as a selector on Travelers Disco and also made his first steps as an artist opening shows for Judy Mowatt . At the beginning of the next decade he toured with Sugar Minott and Little John in Switzerland and Germany as their dj. The music took a back seat when he migrated to the US where he eventually settled in Jacksonville Florida. However after a number of years out of the scene he is now organized and moving full speed ahead. With a voice that has a unique sound and is easily identifiable , many have commented in social media circles that talent such as his " is a welcome change". Asfa is a pure singer in the tradition of artist such as Luciano and Garnett Silk and aims to live up to the standard of his forbearers.

Working with manager and ex-manager of Natural Black Roger Grant, the artist is optimistic about his future in the business and believes Not The Life will bring him the initial exposure that he needs. At the same time he is wasting no time in readying his debut album titled "Journeying" which he hopes to release on his own label Jecoliah Entertainment Production by years end.

After over 10 years on the Radio - The Queen Mushiya is taking a Sabbitcal - Wednesday night Reggae show will be her last show

To My Fans and Friends:

I have good newsbad news and in-between news. (smile)

I meant to tell you all last week, however with our recent loss, it totally escaped my mind.

Bad News:

Regarding the weekly Wednesday night Live Reggae Solutions show on KNON 89.3 Irie FM Dallas - this Wednesday September 26, 2012 - will be my last weekly appearance. : - ). As have it;recent life event changes has made it impossible for me to do a Live weekly show. Why?  I will be traveling more and can't comit to being at the station physically weekly.  I don't have any information about the Wednesday night show status as of yet, will let you know when I know. So this is all about me. (smile).

Am I leaving the station? NO. I am still dedicated to the community and will sub-DJ for DJ Evertons' Friday night Caribbean Show as needed (and as my schedule permits), as well as support KNON community benefits etc. (smile). In other words Darlins I am still very much part of the KNON family.(smile). find DJ Everton -http://www.knon.org/programs/caribbean-show

Good News:

I have grown tired of hearing the critics in U.S say Reggae is Dead - that is far from the truth.Reggae is as strong as ever!!

The increase traveling will allow me to attend and review more Live Reggae Shows outside of Texas and take that information to the world.

Also, I will be able to increase  (hopefully) dramatically the Artists presence that I am currently, comitted to working with as their; Public Relations/Media Specialist person: InnerVisons Reggae Band, Glen Washington, Mark Wonder, The Original Mikey General and Mackie Conscious. For all of this time, they have been so supportive of my work in radio and not once complained - well maybe Mackie (mentioned it once or twice and rightly so) smile. I was recently embarrassed - a fan of Mikey Generas'l asked me "where is Mikey? what is he doing? why have we not heard anything about him". I was embarrassed as it's my job to keep him out there right? so when this new life event was presented to me, I immediately accepted - although I will miss my radio fans, it'smore important that you guys are abreast of reggae events, where the artist are, what they are getting up to etc. (smile)..

In-between:

Stand up to my early comittment to helping Mikey General with his - charity work for the special needs children and work with Mikey Dread's wife - Monika in keeping Mikeys dream alive and seriously getting some Annual Mikey Dread's events rolling. yes, I am still available for emceeing, that never had anything to do with my work in radio. I was doing concert reviews and live shows well before I started radio. (smile) it's funny people seem to forget that. I use to do reggae happenings in U.S. for Byron Henry Staff writer of the Jamaica Observer long years ago. Now don't go calculating the years to see how old I am. LOL.. lets just say I am well seasoned. I was introduced to Dallas as the station Manager Dave Chaos use to feed me the information. From there I met DJ's Ima Uwagbai (who became my boss on African Forum for 7 years), Queen Amy,Bro. You (yusapha Badje), Chief Zehaeit, Tunde Obazee, DJ Alex C, Ras Ridi, Jah Larry, Red Ghost, Mike D Magician, Everton, big Daddy (Robert) and Kenjah. I was very, very shy, so shy Mikey (Dread), was on the phone with me each wednesday night and walked me through until I was comfortable. It was Mikey (Dread) and The Scientist who taught me how to use my ears to choose and play my music. So between Mikey's yelling and The Scientist lectures. I got very good at it and the DJ's started calling me the Reggae DJ Queen. The rest is history. Mikey use ro run the whos who in reggae through our show. So over the years the whos who in reggae had graced our airwaves for that we appreciate you all.

Once again it has been a GREAT 10 year stretch. I have so loved interacting with the audiences worldwide on a weekly basis. the two places that really shocked me for listeners were, Israel and Russia!!!!! - I have no doubt that we will be able to re-live these special moments again at a later time.

Be sure to tune in Wednesday night - Reggae Solutions Show - 89.3 Irie Fm on your FM  dial or web: www.knon.org or Digital: HD1 10pm to 12 midnight CST. on air call in number 972 647 1893

As I always said on the air: Iam taking three steps to the rear; Darlins - because I am out of here!!!!

Dubtonic Kru Embarks on "The Journey" U.S Tour Pt 2

In Spring 2010 a band out of Kingston, Jamaica called Dubtonic Kru embarked on the US music scene hitting major territories from West to North West moving across to the Midwest leaving a musical revolution behind.

Two years later in 2012 they made their debut appearance in Austin, TX at the famous SXSW World Music Conference. A month later, they returned and gave the 20,000 filled audience of the Austin Reggae Festival some authentic reggae music fused with a little rock – Dubtonic Kru delivered the right amount of "dub" medicine.

Their undeniable impact on the US scene has seen this dynamo of a band expanding their audience base to the Southern states such as Louisiana, Georgia reaching as far as Central America in countries like Mexico in their "Journey Tour" Part 1 Spring 2012.

Responses from the US audiences have been phenomenon - band member Jubba explains, "the vibe has been great and we just give thanks that they have accepted our music", he continued.

Their popularity in the states have not waned as they have touched major festivals including Summerfest World Music Festival in Milwaukee, The Bayfront Reggae Festival in Minnesota, the Sierra Nevada Music Festival and the Monterey Bay Reggae Festival in California among others.

As Jamaica celebrates fifty years of independence with much noise all over the world, Dubtonic Kru will add their distinct sound on part 2 of the Journey Tour which kicks off August 2012 back in the USA.

This is certainly some medicine you must have…Dub and tonic - the Dubtonic Kru, Winner of Global Battle of the Band 2010-2011.

Be sure to catch them at a location near you.

DeLuna Fest day 2 kicks it old school; Veteran punk, reggae acts are the crowd favorites

DeLuna Fest Day Two - “Everything here is better than in Nashville.”

Sorry, Nashville, but who are we to argue with one of your own?

That was 16-year-old Nashville student Seamus Saito giving his take on DeLuna Fest and Pensacola on day two of the massive three-day music festival on Pensacola Beach.

And sure, Nashville might be known as Music City, but did it have the Foo Fighters, Joan Jett and Jimmy Cliff playing Saturday? Uh, no.

But Pensacola did. And people came from across the country to check them out.

Saito came down with three friends — one of the dads drove — for the festival, the first visit to Pensacola for the group.

Festival Review: Outlook Festival 2012

Croatia:  Outlook is the biggest event of the year on the bass music calendar. This summer we revisited their little section of Croatian coastline to witness the mecca of underground dance music once more. Even if 4 days and nights of pulsing subwoofers and gurning twenty-somethings sounds like your idea of hell, then fear not as the real star of Outlook is the venue. By night, a maze-like abandoned Croatian fort houses seven unique stages, ranging from a cavernous moat to a fiercely intimate dungeon stage. The atmosphere is utterly irreplaceable. This is combined with camping a stones throw from the beautiful Adriatic beach, where relaxing reggae offbeats ease you into the next day of the festival.

The festival has built itself a well earned reputation for honouring its musical lineage as well as keeping a keen eye on the cutting edge. Soundsystem culture is as fundamental to the festival as it is to bass music. With pioneering underground DJs and producers alongside icons of musical heritage, this is a festival that celebrates the past as much as it looks to the future.

The headliners provided predictably impressive sets. Skream and Andy C wowed the crowd with memorable but not groundbreaking performances. Reggae relic, Jah Shaka’s incredible six hour set was a seductively hypnotic homage to Rastafari roots and dub. Once again Submotion Orchestra enraptured the crowd on the huge main stage. However the real musical highlights were the more experimental producers like XXXYGold Panda and Eliphino, who each firmly stamped their own sound on the jungle of basslines and breakbeats.

Reggae legends set to make some Boss Sounds

ANTHONY B ... the reggae star will headline the Boss Sounds festival (shown left).

ONE of the world’s biggest reggae stars is on his way to Tyneside as part of this year’s Boss Sounds Festival.  Anthony B, direct from Jamaica, will get the festival off to a flying start when he plays at World Headquarters in Newcastle on Friday, October 12.  A regular headliner at festivals around Europe, Anthony B is an instantly recognisable figure at major European Festivals.  Draped in the rich colours of Africa, his trademark staff in hand, and his dreadlocks wrapped regally on his head, he embodies all that it is spiritual and proactive about reggae music.

He will be joined by Rudey Alba, the lion of Glasgow, stalwart of Mungo’s Hi Fi Soundsystem, and DJ Ishu, superb Jamaican MC and former collaborator with The Slits.  The following night, things pick up a pace at The Cluny when three ska legends appear together on one bill.

"REGGAE GOLDEN JUBILEE – ORIGINS OF JAMAICAN MUSIC" OUT NOV 6 ON VP
"Jamaican popular music demonstrated a triumph of creativity by borrowing nothing to build something” - Edward Seaga

"...my family and I have witnessed the evolution of Jamaican music and its impact around the world. This rich music is not only the foundation of my family’s business but on a personal level became the soundtrack of life memories.” - VP Records President Christopher Chin

Music has significantly shaped the political, social and economic DNA of Jamaica. As 2012 marks the island's 50th year of independence, VP Records offers arguably one of the most historical and genre-comprehensive box sets selected by Edward Seaga, the former Jamaican Prime Minister (1980-1989). EntitledReggae Golden Jubilee – Origins of Jamaican Music, this 4-disc deluxe collection will be in stores November 6 on VP Records. As a former record company owner and producer, Mr. Seaga was a major pioneering force in the birth and development of the Jamaican music industry, especially the ska movement in the 1960s. This  led to the explosive interest in reggae during the '70s.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
