Bob Marley's Stage Manager From 1978 to 1981 Shares Insights Through His Book |
Behind the scenes the iconic King of Reggae Mark Miller worked as the stage manager for Bob Marley, the worlds most famous reggae icon, from July 14, 1978 until the stars death in May 1981. Mark's experience with Marley allows him to speak as an insider and confidant. Bob Marley was a very private man, yet Mark shares insights as to what contributed to Bob Marley's hypnotic charisma. Mark talks about Bob's religiosity as a Rasta, his favorite foods and drinks, and other personal aspects of Bob's inner character. He reports on some incredible adventures and experiences on all five continents such as the time in Italy where Bob Marley gathered nearly 200,000 fans more than the Pope, or when they were received by policemen with machine guns at the Frankfurt Airport, and then in Jamaica where fans carried tote bags full of marijuana. This book is full of anecdotes and background information that Mark Miller has put together to keep the vibes alive to honor the memory of his mentor and friend. He has reached deep into his archives, talked to old friends, and collected a lot of exclusive images and memorabilia. Bob Marley, authentic and up close!

"Pariah in Transit", the 4th CD From Taj Weekes & Adawa is Finally Here! |
After weeks of announcements and months of anticipation, roots reggae sensation Taj Weekes & Adowa release their first live CD, "Pariah in Transit". The album, available on iTunes today, has already garnered a raft of rave reviews:
"[Taj Weekes & Adowa] can deliver what’s on record on stage. For some years now live reggae music from Jamaica has been enthusiastically celebrated. This should be too." - Angus Taylor, United Reggae
"Music fans irrespective of their geographic location will embrace the wide-ranging issues and eclectic musical elements that make "Pariah In Transit" one of the year’s most important reggae releases." - Patricia Meschino, veteran music journalist
"If Taj Weekes & Adowa come into your town (or anywhere in the vicinity), do not miss them. They’re seriously that good and you’re guaranteed to be blown away. Until then, though, check out this live disc, hear for yourself and get ready." - Professor Skank, KDHX, St. Louis
"A live album documents - in an unforgiving, public kind of way - the exact point where humble art meets brash showbiz. Where intellect meets entertainment...What Taj Weekes and Adowa have given us is not the usual...Entertainment shares the stage with music, music with poetry, poetry with humanity, humanity with entertainment." - Ted Boothroyd, music journalist
The band will be promoting the album throughout the year. For additional reviews and tour dates check out www.tajweekes.com.
Proceeds from the sale of Pariah in Transit go to support Weekes' children's charity, They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO – www.theyoftencryoutreach.org ).

Big Mountain Teams Up with Kickstarter for Exciting New CD Set |

Big Mountain, the internationally renowned reggae band that topped the charts with favorite hits such as “Baby I Love Your Way” and “Touch My Light” has teamed up with Kickstarter to produce an exceptional new 3-CD set of Big Mountain music. Fans and everyday good-hearted people that understand humanitarian-oriented projects are being asked to help by purchasing the forthcoming Big Mountain / Kickstarter 3-CD set. For more than 20 years the music group Big Mountain has donated their time to help others in need of food, clothing, education, medical care and financial aid. The table has turned and instead of Big Mountain helping other organizations, for the first time in the band’s history Big Mountain’s bandleaders are asking for others to financially help Big Mountain. Through Kickstarter.com, now you can be a part of the creative process and help finance the new Big Mountain album. It is very important that Big Mountain release a new CD for radio airplay and to start touring again. Big Mountain needs to generate large numbers of ticket sales so that they can effectively help raise capital, and also raise awareness for humanitarian organizations.

Advance Tickets to SNWMF 2013 On Sale Now |
SNWMF is please to announce that Hollie Cook, Prince Fatty, Mystic Roots, Downbeat The Ruler and Comanche High Power have all been added to the lineup for this year's festival. Hollie Cook was born and bred in West London in a household dominated by music. With Sex Pistol Paul Cook as her dad, music was always around. Hollie’s passion for reggae singers Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon combined formed the basis for her new solo work of self coined tropical pop. Prince Fatty is a British sound engineer and record producer whose sound is designed to dub your feet with rock steady beats and stimulate brain waves in a jazz-like way. Mixed in an analog haze of vintage spring reverbs, tape echoes and custom hi-grade mixing console, Prince Fatty won’t disappoint the lovers of the early 70s sound. Mystic Roots serves up an original style based in reggae, hip-hop, and dancehall with overtones of rock, funk, and ska. This Chico based group brings a brand new sound while embracing the nature of roots reggae wholeheartedly and performing it with smooth vocals/harmonies, energetic freestyles and beat-boxing, all over a solid groove. In the 1980's reggae's transition from roots to dancehall was accompanied by explosive growth in New York 's local reggae scene centered around local sound systems. Founded in the seventies by selector Tony Screw, Downbeat The Ruler rapidly became not only a regional force, but one that could compete with the strongest sounds from Jamaica . Armed with an ever-expanding 20+ year reggae vinyl collection, Comanche High Power finds and brings to light the many diverse & highly underrated artists both in reggae history and modern roots and culture dancehall music, while mixing in more well-known classic 'anthems'. Comanche is proud to be the builder and engineer of SNWMF's dancehall.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows.
