Toots injured by object thrown at Virginia concert

RICHMOND, Va. -- A festival organizer says "Toots" Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals was injured during a concert in Richmond when someone in the crowd threw an object that hit them.

Richmond-based Sports Backers says in a news release that the incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. Saturday as the reggae and ska band was performing at the Dominion Riverrock outdoor sports and music festival.

Sports Backers says the concert was stopped and spectators were asked to leave.

The organization referred further questions to Richmond police. A police spokesman didn't immediately return messages Sunday.

Sports Backers organizes festival with Venture Richmond. Venture Richmond executive director Jack Berry also didn't immediately return messages Sunday.

And then....

Toots Management announced:

Toots would like to thank all his friends, fans and family who have reached out to him since the bottle throwing incident in Richmond Saturday Night. After 7 stitches and a little rest, he was able to perform a wonderful show in Westhampton, NY on Sunday night as the 1st show of his acoustic tour. The youth who threw the bottle for no apparent reason is in custody and being charged. Toots, being the soldier he is, will hopefully be able to continue the tour.

Return Of The Nation

California Reggae alums Dub Nation kick off their return to action with a reunion that features new faces to the line-up. Producer and bassist, Frank “Fantom” Caruso, after years of managing and touring with the likes of Motown legends, The Temptations, has reincarnated Dub Nation with their third musical effort. The biggest transformation in their sound would undoubtedly be that of new lead singer GC Cameron. Cameron is a Motown legend who goes all the way back to the late 1960’s as a member of The Spinners. Caruso and Cameron bonded together during their days with The Temptations, joining forces to launch this new Dub Nation album, Rising Force for Change.

GC Cameron’s international smash hit “It’s a Shame”, was Motown Records and The Spinners biggest song of 1970. Produced and written by Stevie Wonder, “It’s a Shame” showed off GC’s tremendous range and vocal power. Later GC would go solo and follow Barry Gordy and Motown to Los Angeles. In 1974, Cameron would release “It’s so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” under his own name and on the soundtrack for the movie Cooley High.

Other original members who go back to 1995 with the group are vocalist Paul “Fish” Dawson, keyboardist Peter Nuessmann and horn section: John Caredio on trumpet and Kenny Schick on saxophone. The ensemble is completed with Bay Area guitar hero David Rampley, drummer Chris Cortez of Native Elements, and vocalists Kimiko Joy and Omega of the group Dynamic.  www.nationrizn.com

SNWMF 2013 - Candelaria Added to the Dancehall

SNWMF is pleased to announce that CANDELARIA has been added to the Village Stage on Friday night.  Inspired by the raw, rootsy rhythms of Cumbia, yet growing restless with only playing covers, Candelaria began to experiment with the style. They applied dub studio techniques and reggae style bass lines to traditional cumbia and other Colombian rhythms, developing a completely unique style of dance music with electronic sensibilities and a live feel which they call "Cumbia Dub."

On-Site Vehicle Camping for SNWMF 2013 is sold out but a limited number of 'Walk-In' camping will be available at the gate. For additional information regarding walk-in camping and the artists performing at this year's festival or to purchase tickets, please log on to: www.snwmf.com

New Music from the Legendary Ken Boothe

Ken Boothe has had several chart-topping hits including Everything I Own (#1 in the British Charts in 1974),Crying Over You (#11 in the British Charts in 1974). His song Train is Coming ft Shaggy was used in the soundtrack for the movie Money Train (2005) starring Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and Jennifer Lopez. Most recently in 2012,his chart-topping hit Artibella, was featured in Snoop Dogg's song La La La which is currently doing very well as one of his first reggae tracks under his new title Snoop Lion. The song has gained the attention of Rolling Stones magazine, who has done a feature on this bold move by Snoop Dogg.

He is still actively producing great music having just completed his latest album entitled Journey, with the lead title single Journey doing very well locally and internationally. Journey is now available online everywhere. The lead song commemorates the 50 year journey of this living legend throughout the music industry and indeed the world. Please click the two youtube links below to view his two most recent video releases entitled Journey and Love In Your Eyes. The album is complete with 12 tracks and provides an exciting blend of Ken's rich smooth style with youthful energetic sounds.

Chantelle Ernandez :: Sweet Spanish Man

This past week Chantelle Ernandez has been voted into #4 by the listeners of KarmaReggaeShow on GalaxyGoldRadio.com . (In todays show now at #3) She sits behind three heavyweights (chart enclosed) and could well climb higher.  The song is causing quite a stir amongst all who hear it for the first time. It has been on rotation with Junior Rodigan in Boston for sometime and no less a judge than the U.K's David Rodigan has her music on rotation as well. Now the much respected Natasha Von Clarke has also "favourited" the song and been spinning it this week on her show in N.Y.C.

The feedback for this song on my own show has been nothing short of phenomenal given the quality songs above Chantelle. I am doing nothing more than sharing this great talent with anyone who would like to listen and either spin the song or pass it to someone who can. The song is an absolute must for One Drop DJ's and if the feedback here is anything to go by, the feedback for your own show will be just as great, because after all it is about giving the listeners what they want to hear isn't it?    Click to play
