The NY Shamanic Circle is proud to present a special One-day Seminar:

Amazon Medicine:

Celebrating Ipupiara's Life and Teachings

with

Itzhak Beery

& Robert Murphy

Sunday, July 14th, 2013

           10 - 5pm; $120

         Location: Downtown, NYC (Tribeca) will be announced to registers

Join us on the second anniversary of Ipupiara's passing as Robert and Itzhak will honor the rich legacy of our brother, mentor and friend Ipupiara Makunaiman (Pink Sweet Water Dolphin) who left us. Ipupiara was an integral part of our NY Shamanic Circle group. For 12 years he taught us and performed many healing, and some of our members traveled with him to his Taruma Eco Center in the Rio Negro near Manaus.

We would like it to be a special day dedicated to Ipu (as we all called him)--his healing techniques, his teachings, and of course, his beloved storytelling.

Ipupiara (Dr. Bernardo D. Peixoto) was an anthropologist, environmentalist, superb healer and teacher. He was born into the Ure-wau-wau (People of the Stars) tribe of Brazil, and was their last shaman.  He was a co-founder of Dream Change with John Perkins, The Native Cultural Alliance and Eco Global Journey organizations which are dedicated to the preservation and sharing of native cultures and wisdom.

Whole day of Teachings and Hands-On Experiences:

* Yara & Tupana - The Gods of the Rain-forest

* Tacuma Needles - (Technique to invigorate the nervous system and healing)

* Candle and Egg Reading (Diagnostic Techniques)

* Akuras-evil spirits (Diagnostic Techniques)

* Protection Techniques

* Ipu's beautiful stories & Amazonian teachings

A word  from Itzhak

As an assistant to the shamans at the "Gathering of Shamans" at Omega Institute in 1998, I had the great privilege of meeting Ipupiara for the first time. It was red head Joyce Ferranti, my first trip's co-leader to Ecuador with John Perkins, a year earlier, that had a vision: "You must meet this Brazilian man, you will love him." She ordered me. "You'll be great friends and you'll be working together for many years!"  And as always she was right.

     A few months later I invited Ipu (as we all lovingly called him) to teach his first of many workshops at the NY Shamanic Circle. He became our supporter and spiritual adviser. He participated in our Annual Gatherings in central Park and also performed hundreds of personal healing throughout the years which in many of them I assisted him. At his request, I helped with organizing his trips to the Amazon and traveled with him to Taruma on the Rio Negro many times. Speaking many of their dialects he had an intimate connection with the native tribes and shamans and especially the children. Just a year before his passing, we taught together an unforgettable seminar in Tuscany, Italy. Ipu got to tell his wisdom stories to hundreds of admiring and enthusiastic attendees at the Fabbrica Europa Festival in Florence.  They all loved and adored him.

     Ipupiara had a vast knowledge of the Amazonian languages and shamanic wisdom ways. He put his intimate knowledge of the ecosystem, plants and animals to use by sharing it with the children at the National Zoo at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.  He  also had wonderful stories, he was generous in sharing them with all of us and it is my mission to keep his legacy and spirit alive.

A word  from Robert

I had read of Ipupiara Makunaiman in John Perkins’s books and later more in other writer’s books, and felt drawn to the man even before I met him. Then I had a healing session with Ipu in NYC. I was preparing to go to Ecuador for my initiation into the Path of Light tradition with Quichua elder, Don Esteban Tamayo. I told Ipu that I would love to study with him and go to Brazil with him in the future. He simply stated, “You will.”

     His prophetic statement did not take long to be realized. While I was in Ecuador, towards the end of our initiation, one of my fellow initiates was telling me of a apprenticeship program that she was a part of back in the US, that she thought that I should join. It had already started, but thought with my background that they would accept me into the program. That apprenticeship program was the Green Path apprenticeship taught by Ipu. I applied and was accepted. Ipu and I became not only fast friends but also brothers. He said that he had been waiting for me for such a long time. For the last years of his life, Ipu and I traveled up and down the coast between NYC and Richmond, VA teaching workshops and doing Spirit’s healing work on hundreds of people. I worked with him, helping to organize the last three trips that he made to Taruma in the Amazon. Our fourth and last trip together there was with his ashes, which were given with offerings to the meeting of the waters of his beloved Amazon River and the Rio Negro.
