Greetings from your Editor...
Blues is truth...

This Saturday, Aug 3 is... wait for it... International Blues Music Day...and it's been a long time coming at that! There are celebrations around the globe honoring this day and rightly so. Charlie Musselwhite has been quoted as saying, "The blues remind us that we are human." No true blues lover can deny how blues has captured their soul and expressed it's deep meaning. Yes, the blues is truth and the truth is we thrive on it and celebrate that we relate to it's most honest and exposing power.

Okay, Aug 3 is also "International Mustard Day." Blues on the Chippewa in Durand, WI is this weekend and maybe you'd like to checkout the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, WI while enroute. If you have plans to go to the Waukesha Blues Fest August 9-10, in Delafield, WI, you'd be a week off from "Mustard Day," but the museum is only an hour away from that fest.

Festival locations THIS weekend include Norway, Wisconsin, Alabama, California, Switzerland, New Hampshire, Ohio, UK, Montana, Delaware, Canada and more.

Blues Birthdays of note: Aug 1 Robert Cray (1953), Aug 2 Mark Naftalin (1944) and Big Walter Price (1914), Aug 3 Mercy Dee Walton (1915), Aug 4 Louis Armstrong, Aug 7 Magic Slim (1937), Aug 8 Jimmy Witherspoon.

Talk to ya next week! Your ever-grateful editor,

Candye Kane :: COMING OUT SWINGIN'

Coming Out Swingin’ — the brilliant new record from feminist power poet and vocalist Candye Kane, her extraodrinary guitarist and co-writer Laura Chavez, and her exceptional band. It’s a jukebox for the mind that moves the body and spirit with a broad selection of originals and hip covers.

Raised in your typical dysfunctional, blue-collar family, Candye Kane was a teenage mother, a pinup cover girl and a punk rock, blues-belting brassy broad by the time she was 21. Now with twelve CD’s, a couple of record label signings, millions of stateside and international road miles, countless music award nominations and a life-threatening battle with cancer (Candye has continued to work full-time while battling neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer since 2007), Miss Kane has proven to be a true survivor as she lives up to her moniker, “The Toughest Girl Alive”.

Roomful of Blues :: 45 LIVE
For nearly half a century, Roomful of Blues has been delivering its signature blend of swing, rock ‘n’ roll, jump, blues and R&B to euphoric audiences all over the world. To commemorate and celebrate their 45th anniversary, the band hosted a three-day party in March of 2013 at one of their favorite haunts, The Ocean Mist, in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The band blew the doors off the packed club, playing to roaring ovations each night. Happily, the proceedings were recorded and the resulting album, 45 Live, is among Roomful of Blues’ crowning achievements. The album is a lightning-in-a-bottle blowout, showcasing the larger-than-life vocal and instrumental power of the band. Read all about it here

Growing up in her native Serbia, Ana Popovic managed to pick up the blues bug. She grew up to become an amazing guitar player. After some success in Eastern Europe and Holland, she moved here to give the blues back. Ana's latest is called Can You Stand The Heat. And yes, it is hot and hard rocking.
