We are very excited to announce that CHN will be hosting a conference this year! Not only will we have interesting speakers but we will also be taking our vendor list to a whole new level. In addition to the expected curriculum & subject vendors, book sale, and bake sale, we are planning to expand. Stay tuned as the conference details develop to include: homeschool family businesses, natural wellness, healthy foods, and green living vendors.
We will certainly be including fun events for the children! After all, they are the reason we all homeschool; what would a fair be like without the stars themselves?
You can purchase your conference admission via paypal or pay-at-the-door. |

It's Not Back to School Time!
|
It's almost that time of year again - when the sound of school buses are traveling past our driveways, and not-going-back-to-school beach days are happening around the state. The morning air is cool and crisp - we are, once again, looking forward to having our children home with us for another year of homeschooling.
Whether you've been homeschooling since your child's birth or this is your first year, it is always a new adventure. Here at CHN, we are working to offer you a supportive hand, reaching out through this newsletter. Take some time to click and read through the information, articles and website links to find some treasures that you can use in your homeschool. Feel free to share this newsletter with a friend! That's how we grow and we're over 2,000 families strong.
This newsletter is dedicated to topics pertinent to new homeschoolers and the beginning of a new school year for all of us. Carpe diem!

Meet the Hussey Family of Putnam, CT!
|
Way up in the quietest corner of the quiet corner, is our comfy gray house full of gingers. We're a family of 8, with 17 chickens, two dogs, and will be welcoming two kids (the goat kind) in another week on our ever expanding wanna-be homestead. They (the children, not the goats) are almost 19, 16, 14, 11, 9, and 6. Read more |

Homeschool Domination: Why These Kids Will Take You Down

With America's public school system in decline, more and more parents are turning to homeschooling as a solution. The surprising part? When it comes time to perform, homeschooled kids are blowing everyone else out of the water. Read the astounding statistics here. |

The Top 10 Positive Reasons to Homeschool
|
Lots of articles about why people homeschool approach it from a negative angle. Usually, they focus on what parents don't like about public school.
But for many people, the decision to homeschool is about the things they want to bring into their life, not the things they are trying to avoid. Inspire yourself with these reasons to homeschool! |

|
For homeschoolers, the advantages of using alternative resources are many: they usually cost less, are easier to find, don't require a teachers' manual or special training, they exercise a multitude of skills aside from passive reading -- and they're usually a lot more fun. See for yourself. |

Homeschooling a Special Needs Child
|
Every child is special, from their individual freckles right down to the size of their pinkie toes! But some children have needs that are considered “extra” special - - outside the scope of the ordinary. If your child fits into the category of “special needs,” then you understand that they also have special learning needs, as well.

Simple Advice to New Homeschoolers
|
Our support group’s annual Homeschooling 101 is coming up soon, and I’ve been putting together notes and packets in preparation for my presentation.
I love looking out at the audience and seeing so many people; and whether their faces are eager, apprehensive, confused, or even terrified, they all have this in common: they desperately want to do the best for their children. Some of them will find out that homeschooling is the absolute best choice they can make; others will pursue different avenues.
Invariably, sometime during the session, the question comes in some form:
what piece of advice would you give a newbie?
Much more important to me than choosing curriculum or having well-organized shelves or even deciding whether to keep homeschooling is the tremendous task of being a good parent.
