Greetings from your Editor...
Blue voodoo...

Ah yes, my favorite holiday is just around the dark, secluded corner... Halloween. Celebrated in the "darker half" of the year, it's a time when we can dress up as crazy or scary as we like and act like someone or something else... an alter-ego maybe? It's a time for off-the-wall parties, creepy crawlies, make-believe and candy treats. One of my few memories of trick-or-treating as a young child was when I dressed up as a Scottish girl but then everyone would make me dance before they'd give me any candy (or an apple or a nickel). One year my mom made me dress up as a carrot!! What the heck do you do with that?? Umm, come to think of it, I hated carrots when I was a kid. That probably didn't help much.

Parties are starting... some tunes you might hear... "Now my door knob is rattling, my chair's turnin' round and round. I can hear strange voices and nobody can be found." (Tampa Red "Witchin' Hour Blues). "I got dust from a rattlesnake and a black spider bone..." (Koko Taylor "Voodoo Woman"). "I put a spell on you, because you're mine" (Screaming Jay Hawkins). " I believe, my baby got a black cat bone." (Albert Collins). "I'm gonna carve your pumpkin and light your world on fire."  (okay, I just made that one up).

Blues Birthdays of Note this week: Oct 24 Sonny Terry (1911), Willie Mabon (1925); Bill Wyman (1936) and Jimmy Dawkins (1936); Oct 26 Detroit Junior (1931), Oct 27 Henry Townsend (1909) and Clifford Antone (1949 Antone Records); Oct 28 Ben Harper (1969); Oct 29 Peter Green (1946) and Hadda Brooks (1916); Oct 30 Bob Koester (1932 Delmark's Founder); Oct 31 Julia Lee (1902), Ethel Waters (1896); Nov 1 Sippie Wallace (1898) and Don Robey (Duke/Peacock Records 1903).

Jim Allchin :: Q.E.D.
The evolution of the extraordinary singer, songwriter and guitarist Jim Allchin has been an unlikely combination of events. Born dirt poor in the middle of an orange grove in central Florida, he picked produce, drove tractor and began playing guitar as a youngster. He gigged throughout the South before going to college, resulting in a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a job with Microsoft in 1990.

In 2007 Allchin left Microsoft to pursue his passion to play music full time. He released Overclocked in 2011 displaying instrumental virtuosity in blues-rock, heavy rock and jazz. Q.E.D. reveals growth in every facet of his sonic art with 13 original compositions exploring the human condition through his unique insights.
