TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your Editor...
Mind reading...

October 31st is not only Halloween but it's "Increase Your Psychic Powers Day." Go ahead, read my mind! This holiday dates back to 19th century England. I actually had a lot more psychic powers as a child (when I wasn't levitating). They say concentrating and clearing your mind of other thoughts is essential to successfully developing your psychic powers. Well, there ya have it... it takes more effort to slow down now in our fast-paced world. You have to admit, it sure is nice to take a step back sometimes.

"I ain't superstitious, but a black cat just crossed my trail" (Willie Dixon). "I heard the voice of a pork chop sing" (Jim Jackson). "I can sit here, think a thousand miles away" (Memphis Jug Band, "Beale Street Mess Around"). "Been down so many highways, I can see them in my dreams" (Charlie Musselwhite "Highway Blues").

Thinking of you!

Blues Birthdays of Note this week: Nov 1 Sippie Wallace (1898) and Don Robey (Duke/Peacock Records 1903); Nov 2 Mark Wenner (1948); Nov 3 Mable John (1930); Sonny Rhodes (1940); Nov 4 Delbert McClinton (1940); Nov 5 Ike Turner (1931), Studebaker John Grimaldi (1952); Nov 6 Rory Block (1949); Nov 8 Bonnie Raitt (1949).

Talk to ya next week! Your ever-grateful editor,

BRYAN LEE :: PLAY ONE FOR ME
Play One for Me is the label debut CD from New Orleans-based blues guitarist/singer Bryan Lee, recorded at Severn Record’s new state-of-the-art studios in Annapolis.

Produced by Kevin Anker, David Earl and Steve Gomes, Play One for Me features Bryan Lee’s powerfully soulful vocals and stinging guitar backed by the label’s studio house band of Anker on keyboards, Gomes on bass and Robb Stupka on drums, augmented by special guests Kim Wilson (harmonica) and Johnny Moeller (rhythm guitar) of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Horns and strings on the new album were arranged and conducted by Willie Henderson. Read all about it here

Ron Dziubla :: NASTY HABIT
Tenor and baritone sax player Ron Dziubla, known for his work with legendary rock guitarist Duane Eddy, liberally deploys his formidable lung power and creative juices on the 11 songs of his third and most exciting album, Nasty Habit.

Using the wild language of early rock ’n’ roll sax to serve his own needs, he deploys new instrumental music and refurbished classic material in the image of a rabid, bigger-than-life sax honker and screamer.
Nasty Habit is produced by Pete Curry of Los Straitjackets and features Curry on drums as well as a guest appearance by James Intveld.

Otis Taylor visits the Second Story Garage
Second Story Garage - Otis Taylor plays loose as a way to pinpoint that place where the soul lives. When he plays guitar and sings, it’s as if he allows everything to fall away except for the essential thing to be expressed. You could almost call it a trance.

The blues musician is one of the cultural treasures of Boulder, but locals are not alone in appreciating his value. His music has been featured on TV shows and movies, including “Public Enemies.” He has received praise from national media outlets, such as Rolling Stone and The New Yorker, and his awards shelf is getting full. That’s why “Boulder blues legend” often precedes his name. ...Read story and watch video here

Quinn Sullivan found his love of the blues early
Straight.com - The blues world has produced its fair share of guitar-wielding child prodigies. Growing up with family connections to the Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks scored his first paid gig at 11. And Kenny Wayne Shepherd took up guitar at the age of seven, shortly after being mesmerized by the sight of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The latest young whippersnapper to draw the attention of blues-rock fans is 14-year-old Quinn Sullivan, who started out real early. He was still a toddler when he discovered the joys of the six-string.
