Ras Shiloh

The cousin of R&B/soul singer Betty Wright, Williams began his music career in 1984 as a child when he performed as Big Belly Youth for the Golden Touch sound system in New York. His stage name, a reference to his stature, was given to him by Nitty Gritty. The local production team of Ras Shaka and Knotty B recorded Williams’ debut, ‘You Say You Love Jah’, over the rhythm of the Bob Marley’s ‘Natural Mystic’. With the revival of roots and culture Ras Shaka advised the singer to change his name to Ras Shiloh. Under the new moniker he released a series of roots tunes, including ‘Time’ and ‘Jah Calling’.

In the mid-90s, having established his career in New York, Ras Shiloh relocated to Jamaica. The singer embarked on a series of recording sessions with top producers including, Donovan Germain (‘Child Of A Slave’) and Tony Rebel (‘Are You Satisfied’). With Buju Banton, Ras Shiloh performed ‘Give I Strength’, that was featured on Banton’s Inna Heights. In November 1997, the singer returned to New York where Ras Shiloh & Idrens Chants was released to critical acclaim. The stand-out tracks include ‘Virtuous Woman’, ‘Cocaine Cowboys’, and a classic combination with Shelene Thomas on ‘Caught Up In The Circle’. He embarked on a tour of the east coast with Rebel and the Flames crew followed by a tour of Europe supporting Yammie Bolo. In addition to his hectic touring schedule Ras Shiloh worked on sessions for his second album with Knotty B and Noel Alphonso (the son of Roland Alphonso). To promote Babylon You Doom he participated in New York’s Culturama festival and the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and toured Florida and the west coast. Further hits ensued including, ‘Brass Gates’, ‘Child Of A Slave’ and ‘Are You Satisfied’. In 1999, the singer performed in 48 major cities of the USA, Canada and the Caribbean as well as a making a guest appearance on the Jay Leno television show in America. His third album, Listen Well, featured guest productions from artists such as Rebel, Morgan Heritage, and Philip ‘Fatis’ Burrell.

News Flash
Lake Tahoe Fall Harvest Reggae Jam - November 29
Black Uhuru are a Jamaican reggae group formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston Jamaica in 1972, initially as Uhuru (Swahili for 'freedom'). Over the years, despite several line-up changes, Black Uhuru has released many successful albums and remained one of the most important reggae artists in the world.

Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, Garth Dennis, and Don Carlos started the group in the early seventies.  Subsequently, Carlos left to pursue a solo career, as did Dennis to join The Wailing Souls.  Simpson formed a new version of Uhuru with Errol Nelson (of The Jayes) and Michael Rose, taking the name Black Sounds Uhuru.  Their Prince Jammy-produced debut album, Love Crisis, was released in 1977.   Nelson returned to The Jayes in late 1977, and was replaced the following year by Sandra “Puma” Jones, a social worker from South Carolina USA, and the band now took on their most familiar name, Black Uhuru.

Jah Mix Records drops new Gregory Isaacs track
Three years after his death, there is a new Gregory Isaacs track on the streets.
The track, The Next 45 Minutes, is on a new CD titled Reggae Champions Unleashed, a 12-track album produced by Ronald 'Charlie' Abrahams, of Jah Mix Productions, on his Jah Mix Records label.
Abrahams was in Ocho Rios recently as he sought to promote the album in Jamaica.
"The Next 45 Minutes was recorded years ago, but we just decide to put it out now," Abrahams told Entertainment Avenue.
The song is typical Gregory Isaacs lover's rock, in which he is telling his girlfriend that he will be visiting her in 45 minutes.
The album, as indicated by its title, features several huge reggae stars including Michael Rose, Luciano, Yami Bolo, Anthony B, Bounty Killer, Mickey Spice, George Nooks and Frankie Paul.
Also featured are up-and-coming artistes Exco Levi, Ryan and Sizemi, and Howie Smart.
Michael Rose's Walk and Talk, on the same rhythm as the Gregory Isaacs' track, sounds destined to be a hit.
Frankie Paul's You Got My Love, on the 'Stars' rhythm (remember Cornell Campbell and The Eternals' Studio One hit?) seems destined for a lot of airplay, also.
The album was released at the end of July and is distributed by VP Records affiliate, VPal.
Reggae Champions Unleashed follows Jah Mix's release of a reggae-jazz fusion album by saxophonist I-Sax.
"I-Sax is a music teacher, he plays in my band. What we do is mix his jazz background with the reggae; some people say it's reggae, some say it's jazz, it's up to each person's interpretation," Abrahams explained.
Abrahams is a veteran in the reggae music business, a former manager of the Abyssinians and affiliated with the late Jack Ruby and also Clement 'Sir Coxson' Dodd's Studio One.

Reggae Shack is back on the air – Reno, NV
Reggae music is back the airwaves of the Reno Nevada area and streaming live worldwide as the Reggae Shack returns to KTHX 100.1 fm Reno/Lake Tahoe and myradiox.com.

DJ Tracy Moore, who founded the Reggae Shack on the "X" back in 2003 and who hosted Reno's first reggae radio show on public station KUNR in the 80's and 90's, is back after a nearly three month hiatus from the show.

Moore, now 52, recently shorn of his few remaining dreadlocks, has dropped his "Too Dread" DJ nickname, but is as livicated as ever to providing the best and most conscious musical examples of what reggae has to offer, from reggae's vaunted past right up to the present moment.

Moore has added a new weekly feature to the Shack, called the "Scratchy Vinyl Track of the Week," in which he highlights a selection drawn from his extensive collection of old school reggae vinyl, much of it gleaned from his several journeys to Jamaica back in the day.

Tune in to the Reggae Shack every Sunday evening, 8 pm to 10 pm, 100.1 KTHX fm Reno, and myradiox.com worldwide.
Rapper JRich "If you don't know where you're from; you won't know where you're going"
Within a few months of campaigning in Jamaican, Canadian rapper JRich topped major video countdown charts, received continuous radio airplay and made the playlist of several street cd mixes with his 'Love and Joy' collaboration featuring international reggae artiste Warrior King. So encouraging were the results from the promotion the young rap artiste took the decision to release other tracks he done in Jamaica, his latest? a new single entitled, "One Time.

Of Jamaican parents and true to his craft, JRich's body of work presented to local jocks were impressive, some local djs are totally into his powerful messages and smooth flow. On releasing 'One Time,' local radios 'turn out' the track, pumping it hard and quickly increased daily spins to an all time high.  An optimistic and hard working individual, who is cognisant of the fact that his journey will never be easy, said in a recent post on instagram, "Had a studio session till 4am.  Had to look at this every once in a while (referring to a photo of Maestro Fresh Wes) as a reminder that it ain't easy to be a #Toronto Artist and be accepted internationally but it can be done. He went on to thank "all those who paved the way before.." and hashtag among others the following statement 'all this time in the studio means only one thing.'

A new video has been released in Jamaica for a collaboration entitled, "Yes I Can" which he recorded with yet another Jamaican artiste called Solution.  This video has already gained momentum on local channels and from the feedback will be likely another chart topper for the Canadian.  Check out JRich's Music and interviews as well as follow the 22 year old rapper on twitter @jrichto

Another Man by Inna Sense for new Cd release
Click to playBand: Inna Sense Their song is 'Another Man'
A ditty Jimi Dred (lead singer, songwriter & keyboardist) wrote about a lady he truly loved and found her 'playing around.' A reverse of roles one might suggest so he said it time to find 'Another Man.'

Inna Sense is the longest standing reggae band in the state after their return from Philadelphia & Ocean City Maryland for a ten year stay. They are also the hardest working reggae band out there too. Playing the state every week. Also touring the East Coast from time to time and still visiting their old stomping grounds like Seacrets & working with reggae promoter Jamaican Dave in Philly.
Reggae Kulcha is a new compilation series from Kulcha Shok Muzik to promote good songs of either reggae, reggae based or highly influenced by reggae.

Brina - Seeds Of Freedom - Official Campaign Song - new release
Jamaican singer Brina writes and records worldwide campaign song for environmental group Seed Freedom India and Navdanya Seed Bank for Seed Freedom and Food Freedom
View video here.

Download song from Bandcamp here  Downloads also available from iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon and all major download sites. Profits from this song will go towards Seed Freedom in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
Brina has been sharing her brand of positive and uplifting world roots reggae, performing this year in Europe as well as opening for Jimmy Cliff, The Congos and other major Jamaican artists, and playing with the Afro-Beat band Liquid Sun Orchestra in Belgium and The Netherlands. Now Brina is reaching to the sky with her musical talent.
Seed Freedom calls on the people of the world to join Dr Vandana Shiva, to organize and concentrate our energies to liberate our seeds and our food from the toxic, greedy and lethal clutches of Monsanto and other biotech giants. It calls for worldwide observation World Food Day on 16th October, and honouring real food heroes.
Brina has answered the call with the song “Seeds of Freedom”. As she explains: “It reminds us in a subtle way to think back to the days when everyone knew where their food came from, when we planted what we would eat and ate what we grew. Now corporations dictate to us how our very lives should be – life begins with the seed.” As Dr Vandana Shiva puts it: “A seed is the source of life and the first link in the food chain. Corporate control of seeds is control over our lives, our food and our freedom.”
Brina urges everyone to support these efforts and promote this song among young people of the world, as she finds it vital to reinforce positive foundations and enduring messages in the minds of the young – our future generation. You can find Brina – Seeds of Freedom on YouTube; to learn more about the efforts of Dr. Vandana Shiva, go to www.seedfreedom.in

HEMP HIGHER PRODUCTIONS is proud to present CALI P's new single: "Tomorrow" - NOW AVAILABLE ON ITUNES!

CALI P is currently in europe for shows, media promotion and preparing the release of his forthcoming album "musicCali sPeaKING" (Produced by legendary producer BOBBY "DIGITAL B" DIXON).

In the meantime his fans will be glad to have some new Material to listen to. Just as most of his previous singles ("Jah rule the world", "Don't give up", etc..) CALI P delivers a powerful message with a sweet melody.. which is exactly what he does best.
Unsurprisingly, He chose a "one drop" riddim for the song (produced by RIGA & JAHNATON), and preaches that there is "no need to Keep your head down" as "Tomorrow can only be better".
The track is a self-empowering song in which every single person who works hard in life in order to better their situation will be able to relate to - whatever gets thrown in your path, as long as you keep on trodding on, if things are bad - they can only get better.
