35th Blues Music Award
Nominations Announced
 

 
 
 
 
The Blues Foundation announced the nominations for the 35th Annual Blues Music Awards, which will be presented at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, TN, on Thursday, May 8, 2014.
 
The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded musicians and songwriters in Blues music. The annual Blues Music Awards ceremony is the premier event for Blues professionals, musicians, and fans from all over the world.
 
It is good year for members of the Blues Hall of Fame as Billy Boy Arnold, Otis Clay, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Denise LaSalle, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby Rush and Irma Thomas each are nominated. Leading the list of nominees with five nominations are Cotton, Musselwhite and Lurrie Bell. Buddy Guy received four. Rick Estrin, Doug MacLeod and Bobby Rush each garnered three nominations. Two releases featuring Musselwhite are nominated -- Get Up! with Ben Harper and Remembering Little Walter with a quintet of harpists.

International Blues Challenge  Update
 
 
  • The Blues Foundation has been working hard to set in motion the 2014 International Blues Challenge.  The "Challenge" is shaping up to be the largest ever with 125 Bands, 102 Solo/Duo and 29 Youth acts participating in the 30th International Blues Challenge.
  •  You can purchase your tickets for the 30th International Blues Challenge on January 21-January 25, 2014 in Memphis. There are two tickets, the IBC and the KBA. You also have the option of reserving your seat in the front center rows of the Orpheum for an additional fee. You can also order your 30th IBC commemorative tee-shirt.   • SAVE THE DATE - January 10, 2014 - Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansa's Annual "Road to Memphis" fundraiser on January 10, 2014.  Proceeds from this event will be used to sponsor our 2013 Blues Challenge Winners (Lucious Spiller and Brick Fields and the Chosen Ones) to the 2014 IBC. More details to  be released shortly.

Applications Open for American Music Abroad
  
 
Promoting Cultural Diplomacy Through Music.
 
American Music Abroad (AMA), a cultural exchange program that uses music as a means to engage audiences worldwide, has opened the application round for the 2014-15 season.
 
Bands and ensembles are encouraged to apply at americanvoices.org/ama/apply/application. AMA is a partnership between American Voices and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The deadline for applications is January 6, 2014.  Continue reading..>>

Northwest Arkansas Band Jigsaw Mud is creating an EP CD for VIP/fan marketing at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
