Bariatric Patients: Are You Prepared for an Emergency? -
The OAC Blog is a top-notch resource for education on weight-related topics. Featuring series about nutrition, popular diets, bariatic vitamins, exercise, and more! The blog is continually update with new information so the OAC community can benefit from timely educational resources and connect with others.

The OAC is proud to offer a new blog series about bariatric patients and the emergency room. The first post in the series details patient experiences in the emergency room, including situations in which their unique needs as bariatric patients were not handled correctly. We can hope that emergency room personnel will be trained to approach these patients differently, but in the meantime, there are some proactive things patients can do to safeguard their good health.

The next two posts in the series include tips such as forming a lifelong relationship with your bariatric surgeon, wearing a medical ID bracelet, and others which can make all the difference in an emergency.

The OAC Blog welcomes conversation and suggestions from other healthcare providers in the “Advice from the Pro’s” post and from patients who may have similar experiences to those shared in the series—be sure to comment on the posts to share advice or your stories.

This important topic is a must-read for all post-surgery patients to ensure a plan is in place before there is ever an emergency. If you know someone who could benefit from the new series, we encourage you to share it!
