March 2014
Thought for Today
Is it true?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?

Yoga Nidra and Mudra Meditation this Sunday
this Sunday, March 2nd,
for 2 hours of bliss, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Our focus this week will be the 5 Elements.  New life abounds as earth element begins to thaw, releasing an abundance of water element that we've been blessed with this winter.  Water element is beginning to flow abundantly in rivers and streams, even our own back yards.  As the earth tilts closer to the sun, through the fire element, we're blessed with longer and warmer days.  Soon, air element will arrive with clearing winds that create space, the fifth element, for new life and new possibilities.

We'll practice mudras that honor and balance the 5 elements in our bodies, followed by a yoga nidra journey through the 5 elements.  The spring equinox is just weeks away.  This is a great time to release what you've been holding on to and make space for creativity and joy in your life.  Come, you'll be glad you did!
Message from Karen
Dear Friends,

The yoga community has lost an important teacher in the field of yoga therapy.  Mukunda Stiles formalized the Joint Freeing Series that so many of us use every day.  "On February 18, Mukunda Stiles, a pioneer in the field of Yoga Therapy passed away. Stiles created the Structural Yoga Therapy System  and was Director of the Yoga Therapy Center. He was a week shy of his 65th birthday when he died."  read more

In 2007, I attended SYTAR - Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research - in LA.  I was fortunate to take a workshop with Mukunda Stiles.  As many of you know, we use the JFS at the beginning of almost every class.  Years ago, I adapted the Joint Freeing Series to chair yoga to make it accessible to everyone.  The JFS is also called Pawanmuktasana and The Great Healer.  The JFS includes almost all the joints of the body.  When we move the joints, we're actually moving muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, nerves, blood vessels, fascia - am I leaving anything out?  We move it all!  Pawan means wind or air, mukta means freedom, and asana means posture.  When we use the JFS we're creating freedom of movement and this is why the JFS is also The Great Healer.

What's happening in March?  Lots.  I was on semi-sabbatical from workshops for the past 2 years.  I'm about to make up for it.  My illness has helped me to dive deeper into the healing path of yoga and I want to share it with you.  Please check out the workshops that I'll be offering this spring into summer to see if something speaks to you.  These are all levels programs for interested students of yoga.  Yoga teachers will find more tools to use with their own students and perhaps a deeper connection to their own practice.

Are you on Facebook?  Yoga Heals Us is too.  Like us and get up to date information and a lot more.

Many blessings to you, om shanti, Karen
