Dear Friends,
 
Happy Earth Week!  It’s so nice to see daffodils, wild violets, forsythia and other colorful blooms.  Spring is really here!
 
Just a few weeks ago I saw bluebonnets and orange paintbrushes while visiting my family in Texas.  I also spent an awesome week with the Integrative Yoga Therapy Mudra YT Training Intensive at Ancient Yoga Center in Austin, TX.  Joseph and Lilian have created something amazing in their new book, Mudras for Healing and Transformation.  Look forward to more mudras as I incorporate new ones into your yoga classes and workshops.  Subtle and powerful.
 
If you are looking for a greater understanding of yoga philosophy, please join me next Saturday, May 3rd at A Peace of Space in Taftville, CT for a great discussion about the foundation principles of yoga with a focus on the 5 elements and the 7 chakras. 
 
If you're interested in yoga therapy and the 4 Stages of Healing, please join me at One Yoga Center in Foster, RI next Sunday, May 4th for an engaging day of therapeutic yoga in theory and in practice.  In particular, we'll learn about the relationship of chronic stress to chronic health conditions and specific yoga practices for each of the 4 Stages of Healing.  (hint:  One Yoga Center is not far from the Ledyard /Mystic area.  It's on Route 6, just over the CT/RI border near Danielson, CT.)

Samkhya Philosophy: 
Foundation Principles of Yoga
Koshas, Chakras, Gunas - What is Samkhya philosophy? This philosophy informed Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the 8-Fold Path of Yoga that so many of us practice. Discussion includes:
  • the 3 formative energies known as the gunas
  • the 5 senses (jnanendriyas) and the 5 instruments of action (karmendriyas)
  • the 10 elements (tanmatras and mahabhutas)
  • the 5 Koshas
  • the 7 Chakras
Through unique combinations of the gunas and elements, we experience the world. As such, we are prone to being in states of imbalance where we experience physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health challenges at different times of our lives. This workshop looks at the big picture of yoga philosophy and yoga tools that meet individual needs based on current levels of wellness and personal development.
 
This all levels workshop is part discussion and part practice. Open to interested students of yoga and yoga teachers. CEUs for certified yoga teachers. Request in advance.

Mentoring for Yoga Teachers
Yoga teachers - if you're interested in the IYT Internship Program, I am now mentoring in this program.  Having completed the internship myself, I can only say that it was an invaluable part of my training.  So often we come home from a great training experience and jump right back into our busy lives.  The internship program is a great way to integrate the learning experience in our own communities.  Check it out!
